Chapter 53

“Here.” He handed me first a shirt, then the trousers, and finally the jacket. “We’ll skip the cummerbund for now.” Then he turned me around to face the mirror.

“Oh.” I stared at my reflection. “Oh!”

“Is that a good ‘Oh’ or a bad ‘Oh’?”

“I’ll let you know in a minute.” I walked out into the showroom. Archie was studying color swatches, but Hyde was on the phone, probably talking to Armitage. “Um…” That drew their attention to me. For a second I felt like a deer in the headlights, but then I took a couple of steps forward, spun on my toe and took a couple of steps back, then faced them again and held out my arms. “I know by rights the groom isn’t supposed to see his…um…groom in the…uh…tux before the wedding, but…?”

“I’ll call you back.” Hyde disconnected the call and stared at me for a full minute. I was starting to get nervous when, “Archie?”

“Yes, Mr. Wyndham?”

“This is the tux.”
