Chapter 134: Wrestling with Dementors

"I am going to ask the driver what is going on!" Hermione declared with determination as the situation became even more confusing when all of them had seen shapes moving outside of the train. Suddenly, the lanterns that had illuminated the train darkened, and a commotion broke out all over the train.

Besides Harry, none of them could make out what was happening outside, but for Harry with his Devil's Eye, who could see in the dark even better than during the day, thanks to his Devil Physiology, it was clear. The train was surrounded by a swarm of black-hooded beings floating in the air, as if searching for something. They were giving off a presence or aura reminiscent of the deeper parts of the underworld. The parts where the Devil Realm ended and the Death Gods reigned. He had only seen that border once, but it left an impression that he wouldn't forget.

But these creatures felt even darker and colder. Giving even him the creeps. And they had something primal to them—something wild that screamed of a lack of control. Although they resembled Grim Reapers from the description, they were not.

Before Harry could say anything, another voice spoke, "Quiet!" Professor Lupin was woken up by the commotion in the train and looked around with his sharp but tired gray eyes, clearly visible for Harry as the man moved his hand in a specific motion.

There was a soft, crackling noise, and a shivering light filled the compartment. Professor Lupin appeared to be holding a handful of flames. They illuminated his tired, gray face, but his eyes looked alert and wary.

"Professor, I wanted-" Hermione tried to say it but was interrupted by the professor.

"Stay where you are," he said in the same hoarse voice, and he got slowly to his feet with his handful of fire held out in front of him. "I will check with the driver!"

Leaving the compartment in the dark while taking the burning light with him, he headed towards the front of the train.

"Just what's going on?" Lavender asked worriedly while shivering from the unnatural cold that had formed around the train and spread in it.

"The dementors have stopped the train and are looking for something," Harry replied, still keeping an eye on them. One of them was approaching the train on its end and entered it.

Around them, the atmosphere became even colder. But that was all that Harry could feel; he was unaffected by the magic the Dementors were radiating around them. It was too weak to affect him, as his dense devil power was shielding him from the pressure.

The same couldn't be said about his friends, who all began to be affected by whatever magic the Dementor was radiating naturally. They didn't have the luxury of dense magical power shielding them from the influence of normal wizards.

Suddenly it was in front of their compartment, a black-robed, towering figure to the ceiling, emanating some vile pressure. Its face was completely hidden beneath its hood. It had a hand protruding from its cloak, and it was glistening, grayish, slimy-looking, and scabbed, like something dead that had decayed in water.

It was only visible for a second before it vanished inside the black cloak again, as if it sensed his gaze. Harry was unaffected by the sight, having experienced worse. But his instinct told him that the creature was dangerous; his devil nature was very receptive to specific emotions, and this Dementor in front of him was feeling a hunger, a deep primal hunger as if it hadn't seen any real food for centuries and was now in front of the tastiest banquet it had ever witnessed.

Below its cloak, where its face was supposed to be, the Dementor suddenly took a deep, rattling breath, looking towards Parvati, who was closest to it, as if it wanted to suck something in. Remembering what it usually fed on, Harry reacted instinctively. Using the strength his Devil Physique was naturally offering him, even if he wasn't focusing his training on it, he punched the Dementor away from Parvati.

"That was a mistake," Harry said, his voice very cold, as deep anger activated inside of him. "You shouldn't have entered the train and tried to feed on the students."

Leaping towards the Dementor before it could recover from its shock, not having expected to be attacked in such a manner, Harry once again grabbed it. He remembers that no usual spell would work on a dementor, and he hadn't learned the patronus yet. Neither was Fiendfyre a spell he should try to cast in a train filled with schoolchildren.

So instead, he chose the only sensible solution he had available right now: if he couldn't kill it, he could imprison it. Pulling it with all his strength before it could truly resist him, he imprisoned it in an empty pocket dimension inside of his sacred gear that he had created for experimentation reasons, to see whether he was ready to create separate dimensions with his current level of strength.

Even if he had no spell that could truly harm it right now, he was still magically stronger than a dementor, so it had no chance to escape from inside his Sacred Gear as the difference wasn't even close.

Standing in the moonlight, he saw that his friends were all staring at him with wide eyes. "What was that?" Parvati asked in shock, while Lavender and Padma just nodded.

"Is that your sacred gear?" Daphne asked, remembering that he had revealed the existence of his sacred gear before to Hermione, Tracey, and her.

"Yes, but it isn't over yet," Harry said calmly as he looked outside. I saw that more dementors were rushing in. Most likely, there was some kind of connection between them that allowed them to notice that something had happened to their comrade.

"What?" Hermione said, but began to shiver again as two more Dementors fit into the train and were heading towards Harry.

He was ready to once again grab the first one and pull it into his sacred gear, but suddenly, from behind him, there was a warm feeling as a bright white light passed him, shooting towards the dementors. A white, glowing shape surrounded by mist that looked like a wolf attacked the Dementors head-on.

Upon contact with the white, glowing creatures, the Dementors began to scream in an inhuman voice as they were pushed out of the train. They began to escape, no longer caring about their missing comrade. All of them were fleeing from the Wolf Patronus that was chasing them away as Professor Lupin arrived besides Harry with his wand outstretched, controlling the Patronus.

"Are you okay, Mr. Potter?" The man asked in a worried voice, anger in his eyes.

"I am fine, Professor," Harry replied as he watched the patronus keep his gaze on the spell, studying it with fascination. It truly was white magic. As a creature of darkness, he felt it slightly burn him when it passed him. It was not a physical burn but a pain, as if he had touched some holy water.

"What happened here? Why were the dementors attacking you?" The professor continued to question.

"One of the dementors tried to give Parvati the kiss. Before it could do so, I did the only thing I could think of and pushed it away with all my strength," Harry explained, leaving some details away while still sharing only the truth.

"You pushed it away?" Professor Lupin asked in shock, "How?"

"I just did," Harry replied, while the others nodded when the professor looked at them.

"Maybe it was weaker." The man muttered, confused, before turning towards the students, handing out some chocolate. "Here, eat this and sit down. It will help. The train will start at any moment."
