That's a point as well~ Maybe because I'm used to being alone I don't gossip about people, but even if we do, if the said thing is intended towards someone, we tend to gossip when they are not in front of us, right? The said person here is a child and I know that you won't whisper behind a child while pointing towards him/her, sometimes people just take it to level that I find it nauseating. That said, I understand that as different people, all of us have different views on things, just like what the two are feeling is not exactly copy-paste of what I feel.
