Chapter 9.5

Thanks to Musator, the prisoners have calmed down, but the later the evening gets, the worse the mood becomes. Even the big guy finds it harder to keep everyone under control.

Now I'm lying on the cot, hoping to find some sleep. So far, the prisoners have been so loud with their protest that no one could fall asleep. While everyone is sleeping now, I still can't manage. Every time I close my eyes, I see images of my mother. How she hangs in chains, her battered body. It's just terrible, and I hope to see her again very soon to reassure myself that she's doing better.

Moriphos was talking with me until just now. He wanted to know why I asked him to let Mak go. When Nora overheard that, Moriphos got an earful of her opinion, which was pretty loud. She also immediately gave him the answer: that Mak is our savior.

With that, he seemed to quiet down, even though he appears to be jealous of Mak.

I decide to try sleeping again and turn to the other side. Just as I close my eyes, my cell is quietly opened. Footsteps approach my bed. Immediately, I open my eyes wide.

My heart begins to race as a hand covers my mouth to stifle a scream.

Kyle!, I think to myself. Is he trying to silence me? So I won't tell Tosa anything or for some other reason. Or does he want to finish what Mak stopped him from doing?

With gentle pressure, the man forces me to look at him, and what I see surprises me greatly.

A faint light emanates from the bracelet, just enough to reveal a man. With beautiful hazel eyes and a handsome face, some strands of his jet-black hair falling messily onto it. His uniform is that of a guard, although it doesn't quite suit him as well as his own would. There's a smile on his face as he gestures for me to be quiet.

Marks from the chain Moriphos used to strangle him still adorn his neck.

Mak slowly removes his hand from my mouth.

"Hey, little one, fancy some fun?" he asks me in a soft tone, his gaze inviting. So much so that it makes me suspicious.

"What kind of fun?" I ask skeptically.

"You'll see!" Mak replies. His hand grabs mine and simply pulls me along. When I start to resist and try to break free, he pulls me into his arms.

"Nothing bad will happen," he says with a smile on his lips.
