Ch.19: Night Class

After Dia told them about the situation with Ethan, Lisa was fuming mad, but Alice sensed something off about it.

"Not saying you shouldn't be mad, but during the time I spent with Malik, I never thought of Ethan as a bad guy. He usually keeps to himself and is not one to give in to his bloodlust so easily. Meaning for him to have done that, he had to have been desperate. I mean, Ethan is one of the few vampires who doesn't own a pet."

Alice emphasized this like it was something of great importance.

"Pet?" Neither of the two friends got why this was so important, conjuring images of ordinary house animals.

"Human Pets who serve as a vampire's servants, bride or brooms. Vampires are forbidden to feed on humans without their consent. But a human who has signed a contract, relishing all their human rights, is exempt from this law," explained Alice.

"Now that's just messed up. But explain the memory tampering 'cause that is an invasion of privacy!" argued Lisa.

"You're right, but you gotta understand beings like vampires and werewolves must stay secret, or it will cause mayhem. I can only tell you what I know about him thus far. You'll have to get the rest from him, but a word of advice, just listen to what he has to say before jumping to any conclusions. Besides, if he was as beat up as you say, then there is only one person to have done that to him."

Alice's face turned into pity, refusing to divulge anymore on that subject. Lisa took a deep breath to relax herself.

"Well, Dia, it seems you won't have any answers to your questions unless you do some interrogating."

Out of nowhere, Lisa seemed to have summoned a Sherlock Holmes' hat, stepping her foot on the chair, leaving the girls to mentally question where she got that hat from.

"Right now, my head is filled with so many questions that it is about to explode. Don't even get me started on my emotions, but you're both right. I shouldn't jump to conclusions, but instead talk it out with the main source." said Dia.

"If you got something on your mind and just need a shoulder to talk to, I'm here for you, little master." added Lilith, which made Dia smile in gratitude.

"Thanks, Lilith!" The girl force a smile. "Now, let's head to our dorm and get some rest even though I missed my day classes. I still gotta attend night class tonight." Something Dia was not looking forward to attending.

"Don't worry; night classes are short, and you'll have me as a guide." Alice hope to cheer the girl up.

"They're releasing you? What about your injury?" asked Lisa, shooting a look at Alice's shoulder.

"Thanks to the medical team and the doctor, I can still move around, but nothing strenuous."

Alice's reassurance brought relief to Dia, happy she wouldn't be alone.

"So I'm the only one left out, huh?" remarked Lisa, pouting her lips.

--

Later that night, when the clock struck eight, Dia and Alice said their goodbyes to Lisa. Following behind the huntress, she saw Alice take a path unfamiliar to her, leading deep into the dead woods before finally, she spotted an ivory black building that looked abandoned with no lights shining from the windows.

'It looks spooky,' mentally commented Dia.

Dia saw that the only light source inside the building came from the lit candles floating in the air. Reaching two tall burgundy doors, Alice pushed them open, and when they stepped inside, Dia saw an old auditorium that reminded her of an opera building. The seats were velvety red with a gold frame. Drawing random pairs of eyes upon themselves, the two girls quickly took a seat.

Standing upon the large stage was the same terrifying woman Dia met earlier today. "Welcome both returning and new students. A new school year shines upon us, and I hope we all can get along instead of stirring up trouble."

The woman's gaze hardened, likely throwing a hint at yesterday's nightly events. From a few rows ahead of them, Dia saw the same pretty girl from the party that pulled Alice aside throw them a smile of sympathy. For a brief second, she thought the two were maybe friends until she saw the scowl on Alice that spoke opposite.

"Let me be clear when I say, your supernatural class or wealth do not frighten me. I will not accept unruly behavior in my school."

The woman ran her eyes over every student seated in the auditorium. "Now that we've got that out of the way, I want to inform you about a new special course that will be implemented and mandatory for all Night Class students.

"Starting next week, I will assign a group of students to perform and complete missions brought over by the Hunter Association. Think of it as a fun bonding exercise that will increase the bond between humans and nonhumans, but if you fail, you will receive a failing remark. Dismissed!"

The woman walked off the stage, and students began to exit the room. Dia kept next to Alice when a voice spoke directly into her ear.

"I didn't expect for us to meet this soon. Did you miss me that much?" the voice teased as Dia spun around and saw Ethan with his hands shoved in his pockets.

Now that she was facing him after knowing the truth of what happened that night, Dia felt awkward and kept her gaze on the ground. As if he could sense her mood, Ethan raised his eyebrow, wondering what could've caused such a drastic change from their last encounter that was only a couple of hours ago.

"Later, there is something important I need to talk with you about. Let's go, Alice!" After saying what she needed to say, Dia grabbed Alice's arm and sped away, leaving Ethan confused and inwardly panicked at what could be the cause.

From afar stood the same trio from Dia's day class, except they had an additional member.

"See, Lee! I told you Ethan's been acting weird and it's got something to do with that girl!" stated the feisty one with a sneer on her face.

'That girl… I think I've seen her somewhere before.' The one affectionately called Lee narrowed her eyes on Dia's retreating form and felt the urge to wrangle her pretty little neck.

Inside her first lesson, Dia sat next to Alice as their teacher, a woman, who looked to be in her mid-thirties with long wavy midnight blue hair, talked about a war not written about in your typical history books, as this was Dia's first time hearing about it.

"For years, there has been tension between humans and supernaturals which long ago sprawled into a devastating war that killed hundreds. Both the evil and innocents suffered. Until finally, those from both sides, tired of the endless bloodshed, stepped forth and decided to band together, turning the tides of the war."

Dia was fascinated by the woman's lecture, but she was the only one, as this was old news to the other students, who looked bored out of their minds. After a pop quiz that Dia knew for sure she failed, the class came to an end, and it was time for her next class to begin.

Dia finally begins her first day at Night Class!
