Book 4 - Schemer of the Scalding Sands: Chapter 19; Out the Door

The screen turns on as the next chapter title plays "Chapter - 19; Out the Door".

The training had finished, as such Yuu and Grim were thrown back into their room with the door locked on them.

Grim fell down onto the bed and complained "Uuuugh…! I'm wiped out. I can't walk another step…" as he was forced to not use his floating or gliding magic.

Yuu bit her lip while looking at Grim as she thought 'I don't think the students can take much more…' But knew that nothing would be done if they were stuck there, as such she stated "We need to get out of here."

Grim then looked over at her with an annoyed face as he pretty much yelled "I'm at my own limit too, y'know! I don't wanna spend another second in this prison! I'm pooped and ready to pass out, but…"

He then reached into a drawer, grabbing something before he continued "-I've still got my trusty spoon! I'm gonna finish diggin' that hole tonight!"

Yuu nodded and just like they did before, she stood watch while Grim dug before switching back and forth.

A while later it was Grim's turn again and the sounds of digging filled up the room when there was a sudden clang sound. Yuu turned back around in shock, only to see that Grim had just dropped the spoon as he exclaimed "Whoa!"

Grim then looked over to the other shouting "Yuu! Hey, Yuu!" not noticing that she had already turned around at the clang and exclamation.

He then pointed to the tunnel they had dug out as he said happily and rather smugly "Look! The hole finally reached the other side of the door! I couldn't get it too big, but hey. They say as long as you can get your head through a hole, the rest follows easy enough." Yuu got dazed for a second as she thought 'Isn't it shoulders getting through though?' but quickly snaps out of it while shaking her head before just saying under her breath "That's some animal logic right there."

Grim doesn't notice though as he tells Yuu "I'll go through first and pull you through second." before putting one fist in the air and happily exclaiming "Now, let's get this show on the road!"

The duo somehow manage to squeeze through, although it was mainly Yuu that had difficulty in the first place as Grim was AT LEAST some kind of cat monster.

Now in one of the Scarabia hallways, Grim said "Phew… We finally made it out of that stupid room."

Meanwhile Yuu put a hand to her head as she thought of and realized two things, one being "I suddenly understand how pasta must feel going through a pasta maker." and second "I thought I was gonna come out as a sausage on the other side."

But Grim doesn't take notice of her, as he looks around while saying "Okay, let's get back to Ramshackle Dorm while we can. Just gotta be niiice and quiet…"

When suddenly a loud growl of sorts came from Grim, or rather his stomach, as he exclaimed "Mrow!? Ah, crud! I was diggin' so hard there, it made me hungry…"

Two students are then seen, both about to fall asleep in the dead hours of the night when the sound happened and one exclaimed "What was that earth-shaking noise just now?!" The other exclaimed in return "It came from the Ramshackle students' room!" A bunch of students can then be heard running towards them.

Grim looks around in a panic as he yells "Whuh-oh! We're in trouble now!"

One of the students rounds a corner and spots them in the hallway so he yells "What do you think you're doing there?!"

Grim exclaimed "Myah! They found us!"

Another student then comes, after hearing all the noise and shouted at the duo "What are you doing outside?! I know we locked that door tight!" The first student then sees the hole and shouts at them again "Ah! There's a hole in the floor! You really don't know when to give up, do you?!"

Yuu, knowing that the situation will quickly become bad, grabs one of Grim's hand paws before bolting in the opposite direction of the two Scarabia students.

This makes the second one shout to others "We've got runners! After them!" before sounding a whistle that was tied around his neck. A bunch of students can then be heard running in that direction.

Back to the Ramshackle duo as Grim shouts "If they catch us, it's back to the life of prisoner! Cheese it!" Before very quickly noticing that she in fact, had already done so before he shouted.

Shouts from the Scarabia students can be heard, as something like "After them! After them!"

Grim then tells Yuu "Let's duck into a random room and let 'em pass us!" as he tried pulling her arm into one of the many rooms. Yuu quickly goes along with it, her brain working on adrenaline mostly.

After both enter the two slam the door shut. Yuu leaned against it while trying to steady her breaths from the running.

But quickly holds it as a student is heard shouting right outside the door "Where'd they go?! Split up and find them!" Another, in a much more whiny voice is heard shouting "Show yourselves, street rats! Before the footsteps are then heard scurrying away.

The room is entirely dark, and even Grim is barely visible, and even that is due to his fire ears allowing constant light.

Grim lets out a sigh of relief before saying "I think they're gone…" after a moment or two. Yuu would be seen frowning if it weren't for the dark as she says "It's only a matter of time before they find us…" sighing as she continued "Our backs are against the wall here…"

Grim crosses his arms as he complains "Maaan… There's gotta be some way to lose those guys…!" at least trying to be quiet.

Grim then looks around the dark as he asks before complaining "What room is this, anyway? It's too dark to see anything."

Something then pokes at Grim, but does so in a dark spot, so whatever's doing it is not visible.

Grim is confused as he asks "Hm? Why'd there somethin' soft and fuzzy nudgin' me?" before giggling a little and saying "That tickles!"

Then having a smart idea the cat monster waves as Yuu telling her "Yuu, use that smartphone of yours to give us some light."

Yuu then takes out her phone, lighting up her face as well, before turning the flashlight on with a click noise. Yuu starts out with the light facing the ground before slowly lifting it up and showing light to their surroundings, but being careful to avoid the door.

What's seen though are piles and heaps of treasure, with the kinda familiar surrounds becoming clearly the storage or much rather the treasure room.

The flying carpet is then seen as the one that was poking at Grim. Once seeing who or rather what was poking at him he flinches back a little and whispers "Whoa, geez! You scared the daylights outta me! I was about to scream and everything!"

Grim then also takes a good look at where they ended up exactly, saying "This is Kalim's treasury, huh?" Before his ears go down and he says in a monotone, exasperated voice "They don't lock up the treasure?" with the fact that they locked them up instead being left unsaid by both.

The carpet then nudges up to Yuu now, clearly wanting attention. Yuu pets the carpet as it seems to be of similar intelligence and interest as an ordinary cat or dog pet.

Seeing this Grim gets an idea shouting "Ooh, that's it!" before a glare from Yuu makes him quiet down again.

Grim then says to the carpet "If you help us, we can shake off the patrols and get outside!" The magic carpet does the carpet equivalent of turning your head to the side in confusion.

So Grim reiterates in simpler terms "Hey, carpet! You should carry us outta the dorm!" The carpet gets excited by this as it flies a quick lap around the two before going into a better position for the two to get on.

Grim nods and happily exclaims "Great! All aboard, Yuu!"

But Yuu points over to the window, silently saying that she'd only get on over there rather than fly though the room as well, especially sense it would be more difficult to open the boarded up windows from the carpet.

Once all set though, right before flying through the window Grim exclaims happily "And goodbye, Scarabia!"

The screen then fades to black before "To be continued" plays and it fully turns off.
