Book 2 - The Usurper from the Wilds: Chapter 9; Investigating a Scheme

The screen turns on as the chapter title plays "Chapter - 9; Investigating a Scheme".

They're just outside Trey's room in Heartslabyul as they knock to come in, before just walking in.

There was a canopy bed in the farthest corner of the room from the door. His bed had mostly green covers and pillows colors with a little bit of white and had clover patterns. One of his pillows was also in a four leaf clover shape. On the right wall, right next to the bed was his tall combo dresser, as it was almost the same size as the bed. It was shaped as an elongated heart without a point, with the main swing opening drawers then beneath it there were two pull drawers. The swing doors were red while everything else was white with black lining everything. Then on the open side of his bed on the left was a brown wooden nightstand that had a red rose on top. To the side a little above it was a window with red half open pulled apart curtains. Then to the left of that was his desk. It was mostly white with the linings being black just like the dresser. It had one long drawer before an open space for a chair with on the left side being a trio of drawers as well. There was a line of green to blue books that sat atop his desk. Then slightly pulled out is a regular wooden chair. On the utmost left of the room there is a shorter hourglass shaped bookshelf just a little taller than the desk, just like the other two is mostly white with black lining. There are a total of three shelves all lined with books. On top are three poles for display purposes, of which the two longest each have a hat upon them to display. Both hats are fedoras of different shades of green with one having a red hat lining as the other has a blue one. Then finally on his floor is a two colors of green four leafed clover rug.

Ace asked "Yo, man, how's it going?" as they entered the room. Deuce, walking over to the bed where Trey was being forced to lay down, asked "How are you feeling, Trey?" Grim, having also floated over says "We came all this way just to see your sorry face."

Trey starts to try and sit up but Grim tells him "It's cool – don't get up."

Cater who was sitting beside Trey waves as he greets them "Well, if it isn't Hunting Season! And Grim and Yuu too! You're rolling deep today."

Ace then asks him "Hey, Cater… I'm lost. Whaddya mean by 'Hunting Season'?" Cater tilts his head slightly before explaining "I mean, it's you guys! You're Ace, he's Deuce – that's what you call an Ace Deuce in poker!" Deuce then exclaims at that "Don't give us a couple nickname!" While Ace doesn't seem as bothered as he says "Right…"

Before turning his attention to Trey as he asks "Anyway, how d'you feel, Trey? And how'd you get hurt?" Trey tells them "Slipped on the stairs. I couldn't catch myself, and my ankle got all messed up. I'll be on crutches for a while." Deuce then worriedly yells "Yikes. That sounds pretty bad!"

Trey simply shrugs as he says "Yep. Looks like I'll be warming the bench at the Spelldrive tournament this year."

Grim then starts to look around a little annoyed as he tells Trey "Myah… I was hopin' your injury would be small enough for me to justify keepin' this, but…" As he gives something to Trey telling him "Here. I brought ya a get-well can of tuna. Feel better, specs." Trey chuckles saying "Heh. Thanks." As he takes the can of tuna from Grim.

Cater leans back on the chair he was sitting in saying "Ugh, hashtag #fail! Now that we've lost a power player, we have to redo our team roster!"

Ace and Deuce then excitedly yells "Wait, what?!" Before someone knocks on the door before just entering as well.

But this time it's Riddle as he looks around and asks "Why are there so many people in here?" Before stating slightly annoyed "Trey is supposed to be resting!"

Grim then yells "Myah! It's Ragin' Riddle!" Riddle then says still annoyed, "I am not "raging." I will be perfectly pleasant if you obey the rules!"

Before walking up to Trey and asking him "How are you doing, Trey? Can I bring you anything to eat or drink?" But Trey simply shakes his head as he tells Riddle "I told you, Riddle: you don't need to fuss over me like this." Riddle's face then seems almost like he's pouting as he says "But it's my fault you got hurt."

Ace is surprised at this as he says "What? He didn't tell us that part!"

Riddle then explains "I needed to talk to him, so I went to the junior classroom at lunch. And then…"

As it shifts to a flash back at the staircase as Riddle and Trey are walking together.

Riddle then tells Trey "I'm going to be late today, so go ahead and start practice without me." Trey answers "Sure, will do." Riddle then says "All right, I'll see you–"

Before he starts to trip as he yells "Wh-whoooa!" But Trey grabs his arm and pulls him forwards away from tumbling down the stairs as he shouts "Riddle, look out!" But in return Trey fell down the stairs instead.

As it switches back to the present as Riddle finishes telling them "Trey never would have slipped if he hadn't caught me when I was about to tumble over." Trey then defends "Yeah, but if I hadn't, you would have just broken your fall with a flight spell. It was stupid of me to intervene. So you don't owe me anything." But Riddle still says with sadness in his eyes "Still, I…"

But it switches over to Ace leaning close to Yuu and whispering in her ear "Hey, Yuu, d'you think…?" Yuu nods as she thinks 'This is sounding more and more suspicious.' as she whispers back "Yeah. This may not have been an accident."

Now back to the conversation over by the bed as Cater says "Riddle, come on! It's not gonna do anyone any good to have you harshing the vibe here. It's lame that Trey got hurt, but you'll rock the field that much harder to make up for him, right?" Riddle seems to get a bit of his fire back at that as he answers "Well, I suppose that's true."

Cater then tells them "All right, peeps, we should let Trey get his rest. Out, out, out!" As he shoos them out, and walks out himself.

They then walk over to the lounge, Yuu and Grim getting some happy smiles and waves along the way.

They're now sitting around as Riddle asks "All right, Cater. Was there something you didn't want to tell me in front of Trey?" Cater says "You're always a step ahead of me, Riddle." Before with a much more straight forward face says as a rhetorical question "I get the feeling Yuu & co. know something about it? Want to fill us in?"

Yuu got a chill down her spine at how Cater was acting as she explained to the three who don't know "Right, so…"

Before the screen fades into black as "To be continued" plays on screen before fully turning off.
