Burn it All

The battleground was far, bodies lay on the ground as Venator continued on killing any he found.

He collapsed from exhaustion, his back rested on grass under. Venator's eyes looked up at the sky, thinking on what he had done just minutes ago.

The sun was already nearing the end of the horizon, the sunny atmosphere slowly becoming orange and yellow with the sun's descent. Light becoming less with each minute.

"So much mages in this place, wonder if Bellunamien's soldiers still see me as an enemy or not." He pondered, staring at the clear sky with a dawning sun.

The field around him was silent, only bodies accompanied Venator while he rested.

Darkness soon arrived with the sun going below the horizon.

Venator got up from his rest, regaining some energy he lost. His hand burned red, lighting up a small area around him, creating a makeshift torch.

He walked through the darkness of night, the moon soon rising up to offer it's limited light upon the land.

Venator continued his walk through the field for minutes, hearing nothing and seeing nothing but darkness and the sound of grass crunching under his boots.

Beyond the field, Venator noticed a sight in front of him. Multiple torches moved forward, a darkened silhouette lay in the distance, walking with the torches.

Venator ceased the flame in his hand, in front of him was another army.

"Bellunamien soldiers again?" He asked.

Venator moved through the dark, trying to reach the torches of light and the darkened silhouette.

As he got closer, the sound of boots marching forward became louder and louder accompanied by the sound of metal clunking.

Around the silhouette, soldiers, few illuminated by the light while most walked in near darkness marched forward. Fully armored. As Venator looked further, his eyes widened. The light didn't emanate from torches, but from hands of mages.

He continued staring at the marching army, seeing the large silhouette move with a rumbling noise of wood.

The fire illuminated a short glimpse of a banner above it. One bearing no colors of Bellunamien.

As the moon rose higher upon the sky, more light shone down upon the army marching, few mages began ceasing their flame as they moved forward.

Venator's eyes widened in terror at what he was witnessing.

A massive behemoth of wood, a large log of wood hanging inside it by ropes lumbered forward, archers walked around on the flat platform above the behemoth.

Hundreds of soldiers lined the path, walking all around the ram. wagons and horses followed behind the ram, carrying crates of weapons or provisions. The army seemed to stretch on for miles, all heading straight at one direction.

"I haven't gotten all my energy back. But this is too much of a golden opportunity. If only i didn't finish the damned bottle." Ventator frustratingly whispered.

In front of him was probably the biggest army they have. All heading to one direction.

As he looked at the rear, more hands were raised, all burning red as they continued illuminating the place for their brethren.

Doubt and the desire to fight conflicted in Venator's mind, as he stared he thought on what to do. To tail and see where they go, or to stop them here, or to merely spare them and move away. Or perhaps...Another way.

He looked at the wagons and the behemoth once more, forming a plan in his head while the sound of rumbling wood, metal clunking, and the sound of horse trotting filled his ears.

"I need to somehow them, but taking on the entire army would be a suicide, even with my magic." He looked at the wagons, seeing their packed contents of provisions along with other supplies.

"They're either heading to the capital or somewhere else important. But taking that giant thing and these wagons out could stall them for some time. I'll have to run away after though."

Venator observed the area behind him, creating a path to run after the attack.

"Never did an ambush by myself before, always was better with a team." He spoke to himself.

After contemplating for a minute, he got nearer to the behemoth, tailing the soldiers undetected.

Exhaustion slowly rose, his hands burned a furious blue. In an instant. The behemoth was set flame as Venator began burning the entire war machine. Archers above began falling and soldiers down below started running away from it.

The war machine soon stopped, burning brightly while it crumbled.

Finished with the first target Venator ran to the wagons. Along the way he threw streaks of blue flame onto the soldiers, burning brighter and brighter as more soldiers panicked.

Order soon broke down as many started running in fear. Mages ran towards Venator while the ambush continued. More wagons were set alight, their contents destroyed. Horses to infantry scattered around the place.

The line of wagons now burned. Behind Venator, teams of mages were running towards him with an assortment of fire or ice. Fatigue set in on Venator after using much of his energy, looking at the mages with exhaustion.

Order slowly reformed from the scattered soldiers, now running to Venator to fight.

"Please don't tell me i pass out in the middle of a fight." Venator, now with less energy, turned tail.

The mages continued their pursuit while the army's soldiers slowly ceased their chase, leaving the mages only to fight with him.

The fires roared on, now from a far distance. Venator slowed down, magic dying out in his hands. With the last bit of strength he had, a thick dome of ice spawned from the earth as Venator collapsed. In little time, the dome was bombarded by attacks by the mages, trying to destroy the dome while Venator regained his strength.

"Can't believe i just did that. All on my own." Venator began laughing on the ground, mages outside continued in their relentless barrage of magic, filled with anger towards Venator.

The attacks intensified while minutes went by, chunks of ice chipped away while holes burned into sections of the dome, forming small holes of molten ice, inching closer into Venator inside.
