Digging Her Own Hole

Alicia let go of Madelyn's hair and brushed her hands clean. She went to the sink, turned on the water, and started washing her hands. She used some soap and scrubbed her hands over and over. Even after washing them three times, she still felt unclean. Suddenly, she understood why Louis always washed his hands so much after being around Madelyn. That gross feeling just wouldn't disappear. It was like accidentally touching slimy moss or coming across a gross frog.

Alicia washed her hands five times before she finally felt a bit better. Doris quickly grabbed a paper towel and handed it to her, saying nervously, "Wow, I was so worried the whole time, scared she'd knock you down again. Mr. Martinez, you're not as strong as you used to be, carrying a baby and all. You've got to be more careful."
