Windows of the Heart

Chapter Three

Lucky Coincidence

"You must be Gabrielle, the smart but unyielding, arrogant lady?! Who can forget someone like you so outspokenly persistent in getting to my elevator but has never even been grateful to say thank you for the ride?"

The telephone rang in the Screening Room and Mrs. Miranda took the call. She was told to let Gabrielle come to his office with her resume. Tensed and anxious, she tried to be calm and composed as she knocked on the door. "Come in." came a deep husky voice. Still tensed, her heart beating heavily, predicting what kind of take control of this CEO is, she opened the door and much to her shocking surprise, the man in that blue suit! seated behind the desk, whom she had yelled at on the elevator, happened to be the CEO?! Gabrielle was taken aback. She doesn't know if she will retrieve her steps out of the room or cover her face in embarrassment. Mr. Han approached her still amused, and stood in front of her, gently towards her bent face that made Gabrielle pace backward. She raised her eyes timidly and when their eyes met, she was dazzled, feeling numb all over. She never imagined having a boss that was so-so handsome and smelled so-so-good that her heart begins to flutter.

"You must be Gabrielle, the smart but unyielding, arrogant lady?" Mr. Han whispered sarcastically but was still amused. "Who can forget someone like you so outspokenly persistent in getting to my elevator but has never even been grateful to say thank you for the ride?" Feeling ashamed and shy, "I, I'm sorry sir for my rudeness. There's no excuse for my arrogance, sir," trying to shun his stare while her heart continues to thump unceasingly.

Then he moved slowly away from Gabrielle, standing at a short distance with folded arms, his stare still glued at her, speaking in a dominant voice:

"I guess I have no choice but must take you in as my Assistant, you truly made a fascinating impression: persistent, cannot be swayed easily, outspoken with conviction, let us see how long you will last be working with me. I am not that easy to get along with so I'll give you three months to prove your worth."

And quickly added, "and by the way you should be available round the clock, no buts, no excuses, for you will be at my side whenever necessary. You will not leave while I am still in my office unless I say so. Wherever I go, you are there. Anything to say or any question?"

Hesitant but interested, humbly replied, "How soon do you want me to start work, sir?" "Informally, you can start now so Marissa can orient you on the extent of work you are supposed to engage in for she cannot wait any longer, then tomorrow your formal function begins." Walking back to his table, he added,

"Be sure you have dressed appropriately, no jeans, no wearing of rubber shoes. Be sure you look corporate."

Gabrielle bowed humbly and started to walk out the door when she heard him in an authoritative voice calling out to Marissa then turned to her, his eyes glued on the paper he was holding.

"Marissa will lead you to your office to meet your staff who'll be working with you." Surprised by what she heard, spoke to herself, "I have an office? and a staff to supervise, wow!" expressed silently in exuberance.

Marissa led her to a door annexed to the CEO's office just a short distance from him separated only by a glass door. Her workplace is surrounded by glass windows so that when seated by her table, she can see the outside world, where daylight passes through just like the CEO's office. She was then introduced to her working staff, Louie and Alexis. Louie oversees the telephone, making and accepting appointments and other relevant papers works; while Alexis oversees all the paper works about communications by supervision and coordination with her as the Executive Assistant.

As the story goes, I'm hoping it may leave a good impression on my readers.
