Chapter 29: Therapy Part Two

Royce

“I’m sorry for pushing you to go to your parents. That sounds like it was an ugly night.” Lou shook her head. “Maybe your parents really aren’t able to change, Royce. I know that sounds like a cop-out or that I don’t know how to do my job. But I’m serious. Remy and Coral truly don’t make any sense.”

“Pfft,” I laughed quickly. “Nico was apologetic as well. It’s frustrating. They just sat there and berated her. She fought back at first. But then she stopped. I was just…stunned.”

“Stunned at Carrigan or your parents’ behavior?” Lou asked, clarifying.

“The whole night, honestly. Nothing went well. My parents chose to tear her down, and then she left. It fucking killed me, Lou. I couldn’t help her. I didn’t even know what to say to her. I’m just surprised I didn’t lose her.”

Lou tapped her chin with her pen. “Well, you gave her space, then apologized in person like you said, right?” I nodded. “Sounds like you did the right thing in her book.”
