Enji POV:
As I'm sitting in the living room watching TV, I can see Touya and Fuyumi playing at their table from the corner of my eye. That counts as keeping an eye on them, right? As usual, Fuyumi is babbling away with her little sentences, drawing with crayons, as Touya silently watches her from his spot across from her, also drawing. He gives back the occasional incoherent noise back to show he's listening, but he still isn't talking. How come she's talking, but he still isn't? Is this another one of his 'behind' things Rei always talks about? Either way, they're playing nicely. That's all I can really ask for.
Out of nowhere, I hear a loud bang. Whipping my head around, I see my daughter is banging on the table while smiling at Touya. What the? Before I can ask her why she's doing that she looks directly at me before pointing at her brother. With a questioning look, I turn slowly to Touya.
He's staring intensely at his younger sibling for some reason. There's absolutely no emotion on his face, other than focus. He opens his mouth for what I think is going to be another noise. A large lopsided grin spreads across his face as he points at her. "Fumi!" right after he points at me. "Da!" what? Oh!
Without a second thought, I yell as loud as I can to get my wife's attention. "Rei! Get in here!"
A few seconds later, she comes rushing into the living room with a panicked look on her face. "What? What happened? Where're the babies? Are they ok?" I silently point at the two on the floor.
The noise of their mother coming into the room turns their attention to her. Yet again, Touya smiles before pointing at her. "Mama!" this time, he keeps repeating her name while clapping and pointing at her. After a few more times he stands up, and reaches his arms out to her to get picked up. "Up!"
Rei instantly picks him up before smothering him in kisses. The occasional sniffle lets me know she's currently crying from how happy she is. "Such a wonderful job my Little Prince! So, so good!" as she's kissing his cheeks, he makes kissy noises back at her with a big smile on his face.
Looking back at the floor to check on Fuyumi I see her with a large grin on her adorable face. She's quietly clapping while whispering "Yay!" to herself. A minute or so later, she goes back to drawing.
After a few more minutes of celebration, Rei finally puts Touya down before awkwardly situating herself on the floor between our two kids, making sure not to bump her stomach. She looks back and forth between their papers. "What're you drawing?"
Fuyumi instantly lights up as she picks her paper up to show her mother. "Flowers!" recently she's been getting into those. We make sure to bring her home some whenever we leave the house. She's got them all on her dresser, despite half of them being wilted now.
Touya picks his first paper up before pointing silently at me. What? He drew me? Turning it so I can see it I can make out a stick figure with a badly drawn version of my hero suit on it. With a big smile on my face I encouraged him. "Good job, Buddy!"
The next paper he picks up has an orange and purple flower drawn on it. His sister's favorite kind. He smiles as he points at her before setting it down and sliding it across the table to her. She smiles before giving him a thumbs up.
The third paper he picks up has a snowflake on it. He points at Rei for this one. With teary eyes, she puts her hands up to make a few fall down over both of their heads. The two look up in awe before Fuyumi tries to grab them, frowning when they melt in her little hands. Touya goes a different route of the same thing, and grabs Rei's hand to get to them.
About five minutes later the two children can barely keep their eyes open, so we decide it's time for their nap. Instead of Touya going straight to Rei, and Fuyumi straight to me, they swap us. My son crawls over to where I'm sitting on the couch.
He makes grabby hands at me while tugging on my pant leg to get picked up. Slightly confused about their behavior, we chose to go with it. Picking him up, I walk to his room with Rei behind me with Fuyumi in her arms.
Going into his bedroom, I realize I don't ever spend that much time in here. It's completely rearranged from when I last saw it. Brushing off that thought, I lay him down in his crib. Without wasting time, he grabs his doll Rei made of herself for him, and snuggles into it.
With a gentle smile I tuck him in for his nap. Leaning down to give his forehead a kiss I'm greeted by him kissing his hand and smacking it onto mine. It was obviously a little harder than he meant to because he started worriedly babbling while rubbing the spot.
Laughing quietly to keep him tired, I reassure him. "It's ok. I know you didn't mean to." That seems to do the trick because he smiles again.
With one last kiss from both ends, his a lot gentler this time, I turn out the light before leaving his room.
