War Guard

The second dual book mage in history, an outcast. Wielding the book of wrath comes with great power but at a price. Rage is his enemy, yet his greatest strength... P.S.: This is my first book so please bear with me through the grammatical errors and rough beginning, I promise to get better and the story gets better. Thanks

Chapter Seven

"So what you are trying to say is that I won't have anybody to guide me if I need to use the book ?". "Yes, that's basically what I'm saying so I guess I can teach you a thing or two while you are not using the book and you can go from there when you wanna use the book", Strig replied. "That's just wonderful". "At least it gives me enough time to get a lot of rest, Haha", He said trying to sound funny. "Well whatever, as long as I'm not putting you in any more danger it's fine". "But what I have to tell you right now is that should never try to use the spells in the advanced section of the book, I know you haven't gone there but it's a warning the book gave me. Spells can go out of control if you don't know how to control them, especially when you are not the owner of the spell source".

"I hope I find my book soon I don't know how long I can follow all these rules".

It was still a little after 8 pm and I had been in my room for far too long, I decided to walk around a bit. I was halfway

down the stairs when I started hearing laughter, the kind you only hear at a get-together or something, not that I would know I never really had friends growing up it was only Gentrove.

I got downstairs into the living room and I saw Axy with three other guys who would be around my age, one was sitting on the sofa

with his leg hanging on the arm of the sofa looking like he bought the place with spiky hair that I was pretty sure would cut you if you tried to touch it, the other two looked like regular guys with their well-kept hair and matching outfits you could see that they were twins one had glasses and the other didn't, I guess that would help when identifying them.

They didn't notice as I came down so I stood thinking they would notice.

"Hello", I said immediately causing a graveyard silence.

They all turned and looked at me like I was an alien that just descended from a spaceship.

"Guys this is Casto, Casto they're my friends", Axy said breaking the silence.

"Hi, nice to meet you guys", I replied to the introduction.

The one with spiky hair shot up from his chair and placed his hands on my shoulder.

"Hey, so you're the one hitting on my girl?", He asked.

Wondering when and how I hit on anybody's girl I looked at Axy who was looking straight at my face, I looked at the twins and they were silently looking at my face as well.

As if on queue they all burst out laughing, I felt his hand on my shoulder shaking in harmony with his reckless laughter.

I shot him a very dangerous glare that clearly said that if he didn't get his hands off my shoulder he would accept whatever happens.

"Geez, calm down man I was just kidding, don't be so serious", he said as he moved away from me.

"My name's Rhyo, the leader of this little team, we are gonna be the most elite War Guard team ever", he said stretching his hand for a handshake.

I took the handshake, just shaking off the earlier annoying joke.

"War Guard Team, what's

"Everybody that goes to the academy has a team that goes on little missions and all that, only second years can form teams with first years, and since

I already know these guys and they just got into the academy then it's only natural that we form a team, you wanna join? you gotta fight me first",

he said with an evil smile stretching out across his face.

"Why would he want to join the team or even fight you, he doesn't know us", the voice came from one of the twins the one with the glasses.

"Yeah, that's right why would he", the other twin concurred.

"I wasn't talking to you guys, just shut up", Rhyo snapped back at their comments.

"I don't know how to use my book very well, but I can try if you swear you are gonna go easy", I replied.

A wider smile appeared on his face making me feel like I just made a very bad decision, all because I want to look cool and make friends.

"Let's meet tomorrow by four pm at the academy arena than", he said extending his hands for a handshake to seal the agreement, I shook the hand and gave him a nod.

I was probably stupid for accepting the duel but I couldn't stop the excitement of the fact that I was considered a mage and worthy of a challenge.

Rhyo and the twins which I didn't know their names all left together, I sat on the couch in the living room finally starting to calm down from the excitement.

"It was a stupid idea, accepting that challenge when you don't even know what you are doing with that book", Axy said turning toward me after closing the door.

"Well, what do I expect, you guys are all the same you never think things through, who are you trying to prove something to, you don't know any of us?".

After said what she needed to say, she just climbed the stairs. I started wondering if had made the wrong decision, 'well even if I did what's the worst that could happen, it's not like anyone's going to die or anything. I just went upstairs and I immediately slept off as I hit the bed, magic can take it out of you.

The next day came and I and Axy walked toward the academy, I was getting less thrilled with each step I took, but I kept on, I didn't want to be called a wimp. Very stupid of me.
