CHAPTER 1

Nix swiveled his chair to the side as he smoked a cigarette. The light streaming in through the wide glass window in front of him made him feel more at ease. When he heard a knock on his door, he sighed since he was certain it was his secretary, whom he had instructed to take the files he will need for his appointment.

"Come in," he ordered, his voice as frigid as it had always been.

"Here are the files, Sir!" Alyana exclaimed cheerfully as she handed him the files he requested. He snatched them from her while glaring at her, but she doesn't seem to notice, even if she does. She is quite familiar with her boss, he is not someone you would want to fight for, but she is unconcerned because she was used to him. She had been working as her secretary for over three years and she didn't see him smile yet.

The majority of the staff there, especially the new ones, believe he is a monster, but she believes her boss is simply shy. He only has one friend and a fiancé with whom he has no desire to be. He is a workaholic who does not have time to develop friends in the outer world or even enter into a relationship, he treats everything as if it were a business. Many just simply believe that money is the most important thing in his life.

"What are you doing here? Get back to work," Nix remarked. She returned to her table right away. His office contains two rooms, one of which is where she works.

The other employees are worried about their boss's icy behavior. He had a lot of secretaries back then, but none of them survived long enough to put up with his attitude. She was the only one who had the bravery to speak to the beast. Many employees were always asking her to send over files to their boss when he requested them. She was acting as a conduit for them, but it was fine with her.

"This is life! I have so much work to do!" Alyana screamed and stretched her arms. She was actually raising her voice to get her boss's attention. Nix, like her, was used to her attitude, but he couldn't just fire her because she was the only one who felt at ease with him, and he knew it.

"Just do your work and shut up," he said straightly. She just made a face while listening to Nix.

"Okay, Nix." she replied, Nix closed his eyes upon hearing her say his name in work.

Alyana was his childhood crush, however since she was young, she didn't have any interest in men until now that she was already a grown up woman. Nix told her that he liked her back when they were ten years old, but she rejected him, and because they were still young, he accepted it and asked if she could still be his friend, which Alyana gratefully accepted. They became great friends till high school, but their friendship ended when Nix needed to relocate to another country to pursue his education. He returned after eleven years, and he was already the CEO of the company he was heading until today. He was so happy when he heard that his childhood best friend was applying to his company and immediately made her be his secretary even though Alyana wasn't applying for that position. She didn't recognize him at first but after a few months of working for him, she finally realized that he was her best friend.

"Sir? Sir? Whoever you are, please leave my boss stone body!" she shouted in front of him. Nix didn't notice her since he was drowning in their memories together. He glared at her when he finally went back to reality.

"What is it, Ms. Frances? You don't need to shout," he calmly said. Alyana gave him her wide smile.

"Oh, maybe, you are thinking about Ms. Sarah. She's so gorgeous, isn't she?" she said, smiling. Nix sighed upon hearing her say his fiancé's name. It was just for their business, his father wants him to marry the daughter of his friend to merge their companies. He doesn't want it but he can't do anything when they already arrange their marriage, but nothing in hell he would accept that woman in his life.

"Shut up, and get back to your work."

"Hmp, you are always saying that to me." she rolled her eyes. "Shut up, get back to your work, it must be hey shut your mouth and include your eyes feel free to sleep here," she teased while making a face.

Nix wants to laugh but he can't do it in front of her. He doesn't want her to see him smiling because of her, even though she was the only one who can make him smile. Yes, he is still in love with his best friend even though they parted for eleven long years, she still has his heart.

"If you don't want to work here, yes feel free to resign and apply as an entertainer somewhere," he simply said and stood up. His phone rang so he grabbed it on the table and answered it.

"What?" he greeted. He forgot his phone was on speaker mode so a loud chuckle filled the room, but he is unconcerned that Alyana would hear them.

"Bro! I made it, but we have a problem," Zach, his friend and partner, said. He frowned upon hearing him, he then checked the documents Alyana gave him a while ago. Alyana was just observing what he was doing even though she didn't have any idea what it was about.

"Hey? Nix! Are you still there?" Zach called him, however he was so busy looking at the files. His face was in a bad mood right now.

"I am checking the files. I saw nothing unusual here, have you already contacted the organization?" he asked.

"Yes, they said it has been sent to the receiver. Why? Is there any problem with that? Don't worry about that, it was all good. What I am saying is, the problem that I can't resolve now." Zach said, and then chuckled.

Alyana sat in front of Nix while listening to their conversation. She doesn't want to be a gossiper, however she wants to know where Zach is now. He likes going to different countries, they are also quite close to each other.

"When are you planning to come back?" Nix asked him, he already knew what his friend was pointing at. He'd gone to Tokyo for a business proposal, but knowing him, he'll have a good time there, especially if he sees any attractive women. They are his weaknesses, and Nix was well aware of it.

"You guess, is there any plan?" Zach asked him.

"Not yet, will just call you if we have. For now, everything is good here. Don't try to do something else there, idiot." Nix exclaimed, Zach just laughed at him so he immediately ended the call after.

Nix locked his gaze on the woman in front of him, who was still engrossed in his phone. Alyana blinks twice before smiling at the man who is currently staring at her carefully. She got out of her seat and was about to return to the spot where she was supposed to be.

"Alyana," Nix called before she could get back to her place.

"Yes, Sir?" she asked, confusion plastered on her face. She was not used to him calling her on a first name basis.

Nix was thinking about asking her if she had already grabbed her lunch, it was already 1 o'clock in the afternoon yet he hadn't seen her eat yet.

"Just leave me here first, do what you want outside except for silly things," he said and turned himself around. Alyana smiled even though he couldn't see it.

"Okay, Sir! Just call me if you need me again," she said and rushed off to the office.

Nix smiled when he was certain she already left his office. He was praying that she could eat outside using the time he gave her.

"Eat well, Alyana."
