Chapter 5

================

A fast update for you. I didn't want you to wait after the cliffhanger of the last chapter. The next chapter won't be up for at least five days. I'm a slow writer, and editing is annoying.

================

--------------------------

Pokémon: Dragonite

Type: Dragon/Flying

Level: 78

Gender: Male

Ability: Multiscale (Perfect Ability)

Potential: Diamond

Moves: Wing Attack[E], Extreme Speed[M], Agility[E], Dragon Tail[E], Twister[E], Thunder Wave, Dragon Pulse[M], Giga Impact, Outrage[M], Fire Blast[E],Thunder[E], Blizzard[E], Hydro Pump, Hyper Beam[M]

(Perfect Talent)Dragon Rush[M], (Perfect Talent)Dragon Dance[M]

--------------------------

At around 8 feet tall, Jack stared at the monstrous Dragonite in front of him. Not only was it level 78, but it also has Diamond potential, something he didn't know was possible till now. It was at the peak of its kind, a Champion class Pokémon.

Even as a novice, Jack could feel Dragonite's powerful aura rolling off him in waves.

One thing that confused Jack was that Dragonite's Hidden Ability Multiscale says Perfect Ability instead.

When Oak notices Jack standing there staring, he waves him over. Snapping out of his daze, Jack walks over to them.

"Jack, this is my old friend Dragonite, Dragonite this is Jack, the young man I told you about." Oak introduces us.

"Hello," Jack said to Dragonite, looking him in the eye, trying to look calm. It's not every day you meet a Pokémon of this caliber.

Dragonite stares at Jack for a moment then nods his head and turns to Oak.

They communicated silently to each other, then Oak looked back to Jack and said, "I asked Dragonite to come here for a reason, you see. There is a young Pokémon here at the ranch that has become restless. He wants to leave so he can train and battle others. That's not a problem normally, but this Charmander is a special case."

Oak then starts walking and gestures Jack to follow alongside him, with Dragonite flying off somewhere else.

As they walk, Oak continues, "Charmander is the son of my Dragonite and Charizard, so I wish to find him a good trainer that can help him grow. I told Dragonite you would be an excellent trainer for his son, and he just agreed."

Jack was shocked and excited when he heard this. The chance for a Charmander alone would be incredible, but one that was the son of that Dragonite was guaranteed to be extraordinary.

"I would love to train Charmander Professor, and I'll do my best to help him grow as strong as he can be," Jack promised.

Oak patted Jack on the shoulder and said, "I know you, will lad. I was much the same when I was your age. The years I spent traveling with my Pokémon are still some of the best in my life." He finished with a faraway look in his eye.

"How about your Charizard Professor. Does she agree?" Jack asked.

Oak frowns slightly. "Charizard is not the maternal type, I'm afraid. She mostly spends her time alone, away from town. She's not what you would call sociable." Oak said. The conversation then ends as Oak lets Jack take in all that is around him.

Walking through Oak's ranch was incredible. Looking around, Jack spots dozens of different Pokémon, all living peacefully throughout the land. From Nidoran and there evolve form to a pack of Growlithe being lead by Oak's Arcanine, groups of water Pokémon in and around the ponds that dot the land, it was a beautiful place.

From what Jack could see, most Pokémon were Normal potential, with some Bronze and the rare Silver. Jack didn't spot any Gold Pokémon besides Oak's Arcanine.

-15 Minutes Later-

"Ah, here we are," Oak said when he saw a small yellow Pokémon lying by a tree.

As they approach, it raises its head to look at them and gets up, and Jack sees the following information.

---------------------------------

Pokémon: Charmander (Shiny)

Type: Fire

Level: 8

Gender: Male

Ability: Solar Power (Hidden Ability)

Potential: Deep Gold

Moves: Scratch, Growl, Ember, Smokescreen, Flame Charge

(Innate Talent)Flamethrower, (Innate Talent)Sunny Day, (Innate Talent)Dragon Dance

---------------------------------

Jack smiles excitedly. As expected, Charmander is incredible. It had Deep Gold potential with great Innate Talents.

On top of that, Charmander was Shiny! While shiny Pokémon aren't more powerful than normal ones, Jack always thought shiny Charizard looked badass.

He can't wait to start training him, to unleash the potential he knows is inside.

Though Charmander having the Hidden Ability Solar Power is not always the best. While it raises Sp Atk by 50% when used with Sunny Day, it also lowers the user's HP over time. He would have to be careful with it in the future.

"Hello Charmander, I've brought someone to meet you, and he would very much like to be your trainer," Oak said, pointing to Jack.

Jack slowly approached Charmander and knelt to look him in the eye.

"Hello Charmander, my name is Jack, and I would love to be your trainer. I met your father, and I believe you can be just as strong if not stronger than he is, and if you give me the chance to, I'll show you how." Jack said with conviction, firmly believing in his words.

Charmander stared right back at Jack, weighing his words in his mind.

Charmander wanted to be as strong as his father, who he looked up to his whole life. He wants to battle other Pokémon, to be as strong as he can. Seeing Jack's eyes, Charmander believes what he said and nods to him.

Smiling, Jack stands up and rubs Charmander on the head.

'This plus my little buddy in the egg almost makes up for my incredibly painful and horrifying death.' Jack thinks.

He then hears a ding.

------------------------------------------------------

System Quest - {Receive your first Pokémon} Completed

Reward - [5 Super Potion, 5 Quality Pokémon food] [Inventory Unlocked]

------------------------------------------------------

Jack's eyes widen in shock seeing this.

'System Quest, that's a thing, and I have an inventory now?' Jack thinks to himself.

Not wanting to deal with this right now, Jack wills the text away, which worked and turned to Oak.

Oak smiled at them and said, "Congratulations, Jack. I know you two are going to be great together. Let's go back to the lab. I have your Pokédex ready."

-Sometime Later-

Now back in the lab, Oak hands Jack a Pokédex while explaining its functions and how it works. The Pokédex differed from what Jack knew about it from the anime. Here the Pokédex is a highly advanced device designed by Oak himself and given only to those that pass his tests.

It has many functions, some of which are:

-It connects to the Pokénet(internet)

-Can be used to send/receive items and Pokémon

-Call or video chat with people

-has GPS

-It can show information on the Pokémon

There are other types of Pokégear out there with similar functions, but they're way too expensive for the average trainer to afford. Other trainers have to rely on League-issued tablets but there not nearly as good.

Afterward, Jack asks the Professor if he could stay for a while to get to know Charmander and use Oak's computers to research some training methods. Jack would also like to wait for his egg to hatch here instead of on the road.

Oak agrees to the request and shows him a spare room he could use.

Now alone with just Charmander, Jack thinks 'System Quests.'

------------------------------------------------------

System Quest - {Receive your first Pokémon} Completed

Reward - [5 Super Potion, 5 Quality Pokémon food] [Inventory Unlocked]

------------------------------------------------------

'So I have quests I can do to get rewards.'He then thinks, 'Quest List.'

When nothing happens, he tries a few other things like 'Status' 'Skills' 'Menu' and others, but only 'Inventory' worked.

'So I can only see completed quests. Well, they shouldn't be too hard to figure out.'

Opening his Inventory Jack sees the quest rewards there and 'wills' one Pokémon food to his hand.

Jack turns to Charmander, who is looking at him weirdly. He had, to Charmander, been staring at the wall for 5 minutes after all.

"Hey, buddy. How about some food?" Jack said while holding up the Pokémon food. Charmander nods and Jack gives him the Pokémon food.

While Charmander ate, Jack planed out the next few days.

He did want to get to know Charmander better and research training methods, but that was only one part of Jack's reason for staying. What he needs to do is learn all he can about the world from Oak's computers.

He also wants to check if there is an Ash Ketchum so he can stay as far away from him as possible. Jack does not need that headache in his life.

Seeing that Charmander has finished eating, Jack decides to talk to him so that they could get to know one another. He then tells Charmander what happened to him in the forest, though he left out the whole waking up in another world business.

Through gestures, growls, and body language, Charmander told Jack about his life. Being the son of two powerful Pokémon, Charmander is determined to be the strongest Charizard in the world and fight and win a battle against his parents.

Jack told him that one day he will be able to do all that and more, that they will go out and build a team of Pokémon capable of winning against anyone in the world.

Seeing it is getting late, Jack decides it's time to sleep. After using the bathroom, he says goodnight to Charmander and goes to bed.

"So, what do you think of him?" Said Oak as he sat in his lab.

'I sense a strong Aura from him. I believe he will be able to use it in the future.'

"Really?" Oak said in surprise. He knew Aura users were extremely rare. You could count on one hand the number of people who could use it in any significant way.

'Yes. And while not completely truthful, I sense no ill-will from him. He truly wishes to travel the world and train my kind to the best of his ability.'

Oak nods, then said "Yes. That was my thought as well. I believe he will be a fantastic trainer. I'm quite looking forward to seeing how far he can go. Thank you, Alakazam."

Alakazam nodded and then teleported away.
