Harvesting Loot

"Butchering the mobs is really a pain without the right skills…" Arthur shook his head.

His hands were covered in blood while his clothes were splattered with it as well. What he was doing was one of the essential parts of the game experience: Harvesting loot!

Since Morpheus Online was meant to be highly immersive, it also meant that if one wanted to get all the loot from a mob, they needed to do so manually. Which often meant butcher and skinning such enemies.

Of course this varied depending on the kind of enemy they were against too. For human type enemies like bandits and such, one merely needed to take the items they had on their bodies.

But for animal, beast and monster type enemies, butchering them was the method to follow. This allowed one to obtain a lot of materials from the enemy and could be greatly customized.

Of course, how many items one could harvest as well as their quality depended on the skill of the player.

~DING~

>Player Arzhur has learned the skill: Butcher!<

"Finally! It appears…" Arthur had been waiting for the skill to appear.

It was an essential skill for every player and would be highly needed during every stage of the game. It was so important that there were often players that specialized in this skill. These players would train the Butcher skill and improve it to a great level.

After all, the higher the level of the butcher skill, the better quality materials one could harvest from the enemies.

Large scale guilds had divisions that were dedicated to these kinds of players and they were often the core of their business.

Arthur even knew of a special kind of skill that could be obtained if the Butcher skill reached a high enough level. It was a skill that could allow one to directly separate the usable materials from a slain enemy.

It was similar to other games in which the enemies would simply 'drop' loot upon their death.

What was basic in other games was now a luxury in Morpheus Online. This added additional factors that the players needed to keep track of otherwise they could find themselves in trouble.

There was no lack of players who had been cheated too.

They would hunt a lot of mobs, but by the time they would go to loot the corpses, they would find that they had already been stolen!

To overcome this, a lot of strategies had to be used but the instant butcher skill could help skip this all.

One could simply continue to battle while automatically collecting the loot.

'But all that is quite far for now…' Arthur thought to himself.

In his past life, he was one of the players who had actually obtained the instant butcher skill. After all, it was one of the better ways of making money as he could act as a harvester for parties.

He would be in charge of harvesting all the materials from the mobs while the rest of the party hunted. In exchange, he would get a part of the profits.

And having that experience and knowledge was helpful for him even now.

"Even if I don't have the level of skill I need, I can still replicate the effect just by my own control…" Arthur muttered as he skilfully pulled back the hide of the Giant Dire Sewer Rat.

The flesh and innards of the boss were exposed from this allowing Arthur to harvest what he needed.

Of course, the entire corpse of the boss wasn't useful. In fact, the meat couldn't even be consumed and would actually cause a debuff if one ate it.

The parts that were useful were just a few.

In case of the basic Dire Sewer Rat and the Large Dire Sewer Rats, there were no materials to be looted other than their tails. And even those tails were just meant as proof of hunt and not of other uses.

In the case of the boss though, there were three materials that could be obtained from it.

>Player Arzhur has obtained low quality Giant Dire Sewer Rat Pelt!<

"There we go," Arthur rolled up the pelt before hanging it on his back.

His bag certainly didn't have enough space to store an entire pelt in it, but rolling it like this was enough for him. This was the first material that Arthur could get from the boss.

~CRACK~CRACK~

Arthur then snapped the digits of the boss, detaching the claws from its bones. These were the second material that Arthur could use.

>Player Arzhur has obtained Medium Quality Giant Dire Sewer Rat claws! X 6<

"Now for the final part… and also the most disgusting—" Arthur jammed his hand inside the boss's torso, seemingly searching for something.

After a few seconds, his fingers felt the right organ and pulled it out.

"There we go, the heart…" Arthur slashed it open using the short sword exposing its insides.

And within it, a shining red crystal could be seen. It was about the size of a finger nail and was quite small compared to the size of the heart.

>Player Arzhur has obtained a F Grade Monster Core!<

"A tiny beauty…" Arthur praised the small red crystal.

Among the many creatures that inhabited the world of Somnium, there were several that could grow stronger than their kin. These creatures would develop a special crystal called as the monster core within their bodies.

They were the source of their power and were quite valuable. Not only could they be sold for a good fortune, they could also be used to manufacture high quality equipment and other resources like potions and other exhaustible items.

And it was also this very item that Arthur needed as the proof for the finishing of the quest.

"And I'm done…" Arthur stored away all the items in his bag before washing his hands in a puddle of water.

But he didn't leave the sewer right away. After all he still had a few stats to distribute!
