Chapter 11 [ Extra ]

Hello! Author here! This doesn't actually fit anywhere in the story, but still, you should read it.

This chapter basically explains a lot of the background from the perspective of a player.

If you don't want to, there is a tl;dr in the authors notes.

[ Welcome to VANHA ]

Opening my eyes, I was welcomed by the sight of never-ending sight of frozen land and water.

After a few seconds pass, a bright ray of sunlight shone over the surface and melted a majority of the land.

When the light beam hit the surface, a blinding light was reflected off until it faded, showing off a beautiful valley, surrounded by forests and tall mountains.

Little animals, both fantasy-like and Earthen, as well as larger predators, populated the area. Zooming in on a fae that was resting on the head of a large grey wolf, petting its forehead.

The animation was so realistic, giving the illusion of it being real!

Fantasy music cheerily beat in the background before taking a sharp dark turn. The screen shook and the little fae looked up to the sky in visible horror.

Quickly, the screen once more changed images. Showing dark clouds coating the large pristine sky, tainting it with smoke, before engulfing the screen.

When the smoke cleared a little, fires could be seen on a battlefield, one side had bright elven troops, some small faes and large dragons flying above them.

On the other side, laid what could only be described as demons. They were all different shapes and sizes, some were as small as dogs, whilst others could rival dragons.

The only thing distinguishing them from the faes was that they were all black in color, and their eyes, if any, were bloody red.

Their teeth were sharpened and they radiated an intense killing aura.

Behind them were clustered black smoke, as more demons, both flying and land-based came out of them, and they were presumably portals that led elsewhere.

Suddenly, the view twisted at it showed the image of a large humanoid demon donned in black armor brandishing its sword against an elf with long blonde hair.

His eyes were bloodshot, using a spear to deflect oncoming attacks from the demon.

Contrary to the previous battles, this one was quicker, their moves were calculated and performed expertly. It was obvious even to those who know nothing about fighting, this battle was on another level.

The demons' sword, which was currently aiming at the elven man's throat suddenly changed trajectory, now piercing his heart.

His sky blue eyes widen as his spear failed to parry the strike. Seeing that this was likely his last day, a look of resignation appeared on his face before the view went blank.

A few moments later, the bright light subsided, only to reveal the dead demon laying on the ground with its right arm blasted off.

No elven corpse could be seen, only what was left of his once shining spear, a broken spearhead and its shaft.

Silence ruled the now barren place.

After a moment of silence, once more did the scenery change.

Showing a remanent of the once beautiful green forests, charred blocks of trees littered a grey wasteland, the demons have been repelled but at what cost?

Land split into 5, leaving only a bridge of sand connecting the 4 to the center of it all. The past battlefield of the otherworldly war.

Water fills the cracks and aquatic beasts reigned the deeps.

The faes and elves stayed together and reenergized the forest with their mana.

While the dragons set off, their numbers truly dwindled, only leaving 8 of the once bountiful 100.

During the war, unknownst to many, humans have populated the place. Dwarves came out of their underground caverns and the sea races have created their own social rule.

Once more, space twisted to show a fast-forwarded image of humans, their rise to rule a majority of the lands.

After a few seconds, the camera moved to a secluded area of darkness, where black smoke gathered.

When it condensed, the natural sound of the wind stopped. Animals paused whatever they were doing and the sky darkened.

For a split second, everything was silent.

Black paws stepped out of the black smoke. Crazed red eyes thirsted for blood as more of the demons came rushing into the world.

"Now, will you be the one to save this world, or end it?"

A warm, androgynous voice could be heard behind me. Turning my head, I barely catch a glimpse of a black silhouette before the images shatter, leaving everything back into a blank white expanse of nothingness.

Only a blue screen was laid before me.

[ Welcome to VANHA, the first-ever deep dive VRMMORPG game. ]

[ VANHA is a world that changes based on your decisions. ]

[ Wanna save the world and be praised as a hero? Go for it! ]

[ Or would you rather see the world burn before you? ]

I was still a bit out of my head due to the visual shock of the trailer.

As the screen said, VANHA is a deep dive VRMMORPG, the first of its kind.

Equipped with black technology of the time dilation of 1:3, as well as being able to stimulate all 6 senses with 100% accuracy, it rose to fame despite it not even being in its first beta testing yet.

I signed up for the beta, along with millions of others, with only 10 people being chosen out of all of them.

Although I did wish to be selected, I never had any hope, as there were millions to chose from.

Despite the odds, I was chosen in the next few days.

Below the welcome screens, there was a [ >continue< ] option, pressing on it, new screens popped up before me.

[ Please select your username ]

[ Note : You may not change your username later ]

A virtual keyboard was layed in a slant, resting my fingers above it, I quickly type out my username.

'Indrid'

[ Confirm? ]

[ >yes/no< ]

Tapping on the 'yes' button, I am greeted with more screens.

[ Welcome user Indrid, you will be assigned to an AI that will assist you on your journey ]

Seeing that, I wasn't so surprised as the official site already introduced the most basic things about the game.

The first thing one would see is the plot, the otherworldly invasion, and how they are once more coming back.

Next, the user would be assigned an AI to help them on their journey.

I was excited to meet my new partner- so far all the products of the Nihility co. have been top-notch!

Cutting off my line of thought, a small white bird, around the size of my palm, materializes in front of me.

{ Hello! I am 001, your personal guide to the world of VANHA! }

Summary :

VANHA was a land of ice. No oceans, only ice. One day, a beam of light came down from above and melted the ice.

The land became a beautiful valley, surrounded by forests and mountains. Populated by faes, elves, and dragons.

Demons invade and near the end, the elven hero and the demons' leader fought to mutual destruction.

Humans came to be and dwarves came out of the underground.

The mainland split into 5, with a bridge of land connecting.

But now demons have come to invade once more.
