Chapter 23: It’s time
Jules
As quietly as I can, I sneak back into my house. The house is quiet and still. Before I head to bed, I check on Clarissa and sigh with relief when I see that she’s still sleeping.
I spend the morning recalling the confrontation between Amara and me. I’m still angry, but not as angry as I was before. Now, I’m more relieved because I told her off and am no longer burdened with my resentment.
Rowan texts me several times. Some of them are random pictures of cute puppies, and some are kiss emojis. It’s a little after two o’clock when I decide to see him. Clarissa gives me the stink eye when I go down the stairs but doesn’t comment or ask me where I’ve been, which confirms the fact that she didn’t know I snuck out.
I text Rowan on the way and smile when I see that he’s waiting for me by the front door. My heart flips when he lifts me in his arms and carries me back to his apartment.
