In the meeting room, many men and women were sitting in a round table discussing various problems on a project.

"Lady Naruko, while your theories are correct on the chakra altering method, we found some problems." One of the scientist replied. His name was Hatsune Gatsu. The main supervisor under Kabuto.

"Let me guess, normal humans gene can't take the strain." Naruko guessed.

"Yes, we have tested it on multiple test subjects. But the result is failure. We need a nutral chakra source. Not influenced by a specific nature. While your mentioned solar chakra is nutral for others, it's simply too potent for the human body." Gatsu informed Naruko.

"What about addition of gene fragments ?"

"We need more data on that part. While a seal can be used we are not yet sure on it's effects. But for now the main problem in our research is lack of neutral chakra."

Naruko started to think.

The concept of devil fruit is similar to chakra fruits.

Here they will need a energy source and a distinct code for chakra to react on a person's body. Every devil fruit will have a predesigned code in it, which will utilise the energy contained inside, in a specific way. For example if the fruit is coded to increase strength, then the chakra inside will change the person's gene in such a way that his body will gain characteristics like denser bones or muscle mass. But it isn't exactly simple as that.

The first process is to change the gene. Or to be specific, modify the gene. But then one thing has to be made sure. That the body can take the strain. The traditional way to modify one's gene safely, is to do the genetic engineering while the body is still in zygote form. But in this world, an alternative is possible. So the first problem in our experiments is the survival of the subject. The subjects are mainly rats. So there is no problem. But once the test fails, the scientist has to start from the beginning.

The gene modification part can be done by taking genes from different bloodlines or animal genes and adding the desired part to the fruit's code.

But here is the second problem .

Someone elses chakra can't be used as the energy source. It will affect not only the code, but also might react violently. So to continue our experiments, we need a steady source of nutral chakra. That has no influence of one's being. Or only one type of influence.

"So for now if I solve the problems of nutral chakra, then the research can continue smoothly ?"

"Yes, lady Naruko."

Narko gained a thoughtfull look.

Kurama is out of options. Although he is her friend. And he will probably agree to share his chakra. But it would be too much troublesome to deal with Kurama's chakra. It might fail as well. It might not be potent as her own, but it's still potent. And she has to work around a way of removing the fox characters.

Naruko hasn't released the other half of him from the Shinigami mask yet. She has other plans for him.

Now the same goes for any other tailed beast.

But there are other options. Mainly lay line in the land of wind.

Thinking about it, maybe that's the best option.

"Alright, continue the research on other fields. Temporarily halt the research on devil fruit.

"Kabuto"

"Yes, lady Naruko ?"

"When is the invasion that Orochimaru is planning again ?"

"On the no-moon, next week."

"You can go and assist him. I will be going out for a while. Call back Zabuza. He is incharge of security of the main circle till Orochimaru comes back."

"Understood."

"Alright ! Keep up the good work. The meeting is over. "

After that Naruko left her room. Originally devil fruit idea was just a time passing thought. But now she has to work on it seriously, now that she had failed to find Jigen. She didn't have a markers on land of wind, so she flew their. She loved flying rather than using a portal. And with her speed, it's only matter of minutes till she reached the place.

Rouran, the place where lies the lay lines.

Lay lines can said to be the chakra pathway of the planet. But in all times. Meaning it's connected to the past and the future. Atleast that's what Naruko's theory is.

She landed outside the Rouran city. The city was in ruins. Nothing except for the rubbles. But Naruko can feel the lingering density of chakra is higher than any normal place.

She navigated her way through rubbles finally founding the main entrance.

But just as she was going towards the lower floor, some puppets attacked her at the end of ground floor. But before they could reach her, she destroyed them with the wave of her hands. An explosion rocked the area.

Unbothered by it, Naruko went down.

After searching for a while she finally found the sealed up lay line.

Infront of her were a hoard of puppets.

"Well looks like I have some toys to play with !"

Naruko moved. She didn't used any flashy moves. But her speed was far greater than the nine tails.

Not even a minute later he reached the man controlling the puppets. But first she let him do the messing with the seal.

Naruko was curious about her theory so she decided to let the man do as he pleased. As soon as the seal is broken, Naruko felt the power from the lay line surging. So she quickly behaded him. And as soon as she killed him she felt the tug. To taste her theory she flared her own chakra. For a moment the chakra from lay line got disconnected but as she withdrew her chakra, it came back again. But this time she let it guide her.She entered a black void. She noted that the concept of time is really in disarray inside the void.

Soon a white light appeared and she exited the void.

Looking at the scene infront of her, her lips quirked upward.

Infront of her were six versions of Uzumaki Naruto.
