She Fell

The early morning breeze blew strongly as Madeline's hair got romanced by the wind and a few strands covered part of her face. She suddenly regretted why she didn't tie it into a ponytail. She held the bedsheets in form of a rope tightly and her heartbeat accelerated with every passing minute. She was scared to her wits and her hands were shaking.

She has never been this brave in her entire life and this was the first time she was pulling a stunt like this. Bending her head to look down, her hands almost let go of the rope bedsheets in fear and her whole body shook in the air. The rope bedsheet was now showing her a sign that it was not strong anymore. She was almost there. She was on the third floor and just two floors were remaining before she gets to the ground. She was terrified by all of this. What if the rope bedsheets suddenly cut and she fell? If she ever survives it would be a miracle and her well-shaped waist would be dislocated.

Ring! Ring!

Her phone rang loudly in her bag and because it was unexpected and shocking, Madeline's heart skip and one hand mistakenly let go of the rope bedsheet.

"Oh my God, oh my God," she exclaimed. She shouldn't have done this. She was scared to the brim and she felt as if her other hands would let go of the bedsheets or it would cut. No, no, she can't die this early. She was yet to fulfill all her life goals and dreams. The thought of her goals made her summon the courage and grip the rope bedsheets with her other hand.

"Morale high, morale high," she motivated herself. Saying those words has always served as a form of motivation to her and made her feel like a heroine in an adventure movie. Luckily for her, those words also worked for her this time as she breathed In and out and started moving down with the help of the rope bedsheets.

One hand first went down on the bedsheets and then the other. That was how she finally made it to the last floor. Madeline smiled as she looked down at the ground. She was almost there. Just a few more times and she would land on the floor.

She moved a few more and it was remaining a few inches. "WTF," she exclaimed. The rope bedsheets were tearing this time. Omo. It was untying from the window and she could hear the sound. It was making that screeching sound and that made her petrified. The bedsheet finally loosed from the window and Madeline's eyes widened.

She closed her eyes and resigned to her fate. She felt herself falling and in no time, she landed on the interlocked ground.

"Ahugggg," she whimpered. Ugh. She landed directly on her back. Thank goodness she was already on the last floor and just a few inches away before she fell.

Madeline bent until she was lying on her side on the ground and her right hand flew to her butt. She rubbed it harshly as a few droplets of tears fell from her eyes.

"Who's that?"

"I heard a sound coming from that corner,"

"Let's go check it."

Madeline heard some voices she presumed were the guards and she panicked. She gripped the ground with her both hands and managed to stand up from the ground. The footsteps coming in her direction were loud and near as she ran to the back of a car. Luckily, she fell close to the parking space in the mansion. She hid at the back of the car as her breathing accelerated. She was short of breath.

"There's no one here."

"Maybe it's the cat."

"Oh look at it. It's running away."

"Catch the cat."

She heard the retracting footsteps of the guards and she sighed in relief. Now, it was how to pass the huge iron gate. Agh, her back was hurting so much. As she stood up, a sting of pain ran through her whole body and she gasped. She managed to get a hold of herself and ran from the back of one car to another. If it were some other time, she would have appreciated the beauty of the surrounding. Take pictures in her memory and inhale the salty breeze. But not today, her only purpose was to get the hell out of there.

She observed and noticed the guards were busy trying to catch the pretty little cat who was playing dribble with them, except the gate guards. Why were there so many guards in this mansion?

Picking up her pace, she ran till she was close to the huge gate and stopped. If these guards accidentally caught her, they would surely inform their boss who definitely won't let her pass through the gate. What was she going to do now? She would have to distract the guards so she would be able to pass to the other side. Fortunately, there was a small waterfall, a few meters before the gate.

Madeline opened her bag which was tied to her waist and brought out lipstick. She hid behind the waterfall and strongly threw the lipstick at the other side of the mansion. The sound was audible enough and the two guards by the gate heard it.

"What was that, John?" The first guard asked the other.

"I don't know, that's not our concern. The other guards can see to that," the other guard answered.

"I don't see anyone going to check what was that. We should go check. What if it's a thief?"

"Our job is to guard the gate and not to look over the mansion. So let's stay here and do our job. You can go alone though."

"Come on man. I can't go alone. It might be dangerous. Don't tell me you're afraid?" The first inquired.

"I'm not. Fine. Let's go check what's that. I'll prove to you that I'm not scared," the other guard agreed.

"Yes let's go."
