“Where are you going?” I waited for his answer.

I waited for him to turn around so that instead of seeing his back all the time, I would see his face.

“I won't be long.”

“That's what you said five days ago and the week before that.” Crossing my arms over my chest, I glared at his stoic back, feeling overwhelmed with anger.

“You've been keeping count?”

“Have you?”

This time he does turn around and it's only now does he choose to give me a small proud smile. “You've always been a smart girl Vanessa.”

“Yeah well, if I was smart I would've done this earlier.”

He nods at my apparent anger but makes no move to correct his mistakes. He just stands there, one hand resting against the door frame.

“Look, honey, it's work. I have to do this.”

“Work doesn't make you stay away from home. Work doesn't make you cry at night,?Dad.” The words sounded so bitter coming from me.
