Episode 56: A Skyward Escape and a Sudden Descent

The trio bolted down the bustling streets of the Light City, their hearts pounding with urgency. Ren, Sakayanagi, and Shigan sprinted through the winding alleys, weaving through the busy crowd, dodging pedestrians as they made their way toward the small ship they had secured for their journey. Behind them, the towering palace of the Light King disappeared into the distance, its bright, gleaming architecture becoming nothing but a memory.

"Move, move, move!" Ren shouted, pushing himself to run even faster. He could feel the weight of the Light Stone in his pack, a constant reminder of the danger that still lingered. There was no telling if the Light King's forces would give chase, or if someone else would come after the stone.

They finally reached the small dock where their ship was waiting. It was a compact vessel, not much larger than an airboat, but equipped with wings that extended outward like a bird of prey, allowing it to soar through the skies at great speed. The ship had served them well on their journey so far, and it would have to serve them again now, in this hasty escape.

"Get aboard!" Ren ordered, already hopping into the cockpit. Shigan and Sakayanagi leapt in behind him, and within moments, the ship roared to life. The wings flapped once, then twice, and with a sudden burst of speed, they shot into the sky.

As they ascended, the trio looked down at the gleaming Light City, watching as it slowly faded into the distance. Despite the urgency, a pang of nostalgia hit them as they flew higher and higher, leaving the city and all the friends they had made behind.

"Goodbye, old man!" Shigan called out, waving in the direction of the city, even though he knew they were too far away for anyone to see.

"And thanks for all the meals!" Ren added with a grin, thinking about the chef who had prepared some of the best food they had ever tasted.

They climbed higher into the clouds, the landscape below turning into a sea of white mist. The sky stretched out before them, vast and endless. For a moment, there was silence, just the steady hum of the ship's engine and the wind rushing past their ears. The trio sat in the cockpit, catching their breath and trying to shake off the adrenaline from the escape.

"Where do we go next?" Shigan asked, his gaze fixed on the horizon.

Ren leaned back in his seat, thinking. "We've got three more stones to find: Nature, Water, and Earth. Each of them is going to have its own challenges."

Sakayanagi crossed her arms, frowning in thought. "Nature should be next. It's the closest one, but there's a catch—"

"A catch?" Ren raised an eyebrow.

Shigan nodded, glancing at the ship's navigation screen. "Yeah. The Nature City isn't exactly… easy to get to. From what I've heard, the entrance is hidden deep within a massive jungle. And it's not just any jungle—it's alive. The vines, trees, and plants all move, and they're not too friendly to outsiders."

"That sounds... fun," Ren muttered sarcastically.

"And then there's the entrance itself," Sakayanagi added. "It's said that you need to find the Heart of the Forest, some kind of ancient tree that acts as the gateway to the city. But finding that tree is a challenge in itself."

"Great. So we've got a jungle that tries to kill you, and we have to find a magical tree," Ren said with a sigh. "Sounds like another day in paradise."

The trio chuckled, but the reality of the journey ahead loomed over them. They had faced countless dangers so far, but each new city and each new stone seemed to raise the stakes higher and higher.

"Let's rest for now," Ren said, leaning back. "We've been through a lot. We'll need all our strength to handle whatever's waiting for us in that jungle."

Shigan and Sakayanagi nodded in agreement, and soon, the ship's hum became a soothing lullaby as they drifted off to sleep, floating peacefully high above the world.

The calm didn't last.

The blaring sound of an alarm jolted them awake, a shrill, piercing noise that echoed through the cockpit. Ren shot up, his eyes wide, instantly alert. The entire ship shook violently, as if something had struck them.

"What's happening?" Sakayanagi shouted, gripping the side of her seat as the ship lurched to the side.

Shigan scrambled to the controls, his hands flying over the dashboard. "We're under attack! Someone's shooting at us!"

Another explosion rocked the ship, and through the viewport, they saw it—bright flashes of light streaking through the sky, aimed directly at their vessel. Whoever was attacking them was relentless.

"Brace yourselves!" Ren yelled, just as another blast hit the side of the ship. The ship spiraled out of control, the engine sputtering and smoking.

The sky around them spun, the ground growing closer and closer as they plummeted toward the earth. Ren grabbed the controls, desperately trying to regain control, but it was too late. The ship was going down.

"Hold on!" Ren shouted.

The ground rushed up to meet them, and with a deafening crash, the ship slammed into the earth. The impact sent them tumbling, metal groaning and tearing as the ship skidded across the ground, finally coming to a halt in a cloud of dust and debris.

For a few moments, everything was still.

Ren groaned as he pushed himself up from the wreckage, his head pounding from the crash. "Is everyone okay?" he called out, coughing through the smoke.

Sakayanagi coughed but gave him a thumbs-up. "I'm fine."

Shigan staggered to his feet, rubbing his head. "I'm good, but what the hell just happened?"

"It wasn't an accident," Ren muttered. "Someone shot us down."

Ren nodded, clenching his fists as shadows began to swirl around him. "Whoever they are, they're going to regret messing with us."
