“You don’t look like the type to be a teacher, but maybe those students need someone like you.” The principal said and Adrian sighed softly, wondering what the principal was talking about. He was only in the office for an hour and the principal was already draining his life force if that was even possible.
“What do you mean I don’t look like a teacher?”
“You just don’t have this teaching look. Maybe it’s because of your young age, but I am not sure. I don’t mean anything bad by it. Just means maybe you can connect to the students more. Since you are only a few years older than them.” The principal said and Adrian was confused about what he meant. Honestly, Adrian thought this guy was an idiot. He couldn’t believe he was the principal of this school. Adrian shook his head looking at the attendance book as the principal continued to ramble on about how terrible the students were. If the students had to deal with someone like him, he could see why the students were troublemakers and didn’t want to come to school.
“Yeah, well I gotta go… It was nice meeting you...” Adrian said, walking out of the principal’s office and making his way to his home. That’s when he got a phone call from his old boss, he stared at the phone for a few moments before finally answering the call.
“Hello?”
“AJ, are you seriously going to retire now?” He could hear his boss’s voice, the disappointment lingered there, and Adrian sighed softly.
“Yes, I just don’t want to do this line of work anymore.”
“So, teaching a bunch of snot-nose kids is what you rather do? You are still young and have so much potential.”
“I have my credentials for teaching so why not? Plus, I don’t think I am cut out for this.” Adrian said and his boss began to laugh. Adrian felt a headache come on as the old boss began to speak after gaining his composure.
“You… not cut out for this? Is that a joke? You are the best man for these kinds of jobs.” He said and Adrian flinched knowing the boss was right. That wasn’t what he meant though and the boss wasn’t understanding him.
“That’s not what I meant. I just don’t want to do this type of work anymore.” Adrian mumbled loud enough for the boss to hear. It was silent for a moment, and he knew the boss was angry. His old boss hung up on him, clearly upset with his decision. Adrian’s last mission took a lot out of him mentally and he just wanted to live a normal life. So, teaching students who needed guidance would be perfect for him since he had wanted to be a teacher anyway before he decided to go down a different path entirely.
Adrian was twenty-two years old, rather young but he was a genius which was why he was able to graduate college at a young age and get his teaching degree. He just wished he became a teacher sooner rather than later. Nothing he could do now; he was ready to put the past behind him and move forward with his life.
Arriving at home he looked around and for once he didn’t dread what tomorrow would bring, instead, he was excited. Though he had a feeling he and the principal would often butt heads a lot if he was always that negative about the students. He sighed softly, putting the attendance book on his kitchen table and began to make his dinner and lunch for tomorrow.
“What do you want Ido? Adrian asked and Ido came out of his hiding and looked at Adrian with a raised eyebrow.
“So, you are really going to quit?”
“Yes... I thought about it long and hard about it.” Adrian said, turning to face his blonde friend who had long blonde hair and stunning green eyes. Ido walked up to Adrian and pinned him to the kitchen counter.
“Such a shame, I was enjoying our time together AJ.” He said and Adrian cracked a small smile pushing him away before going back to dinner.
“If you miss me, you can always break into my home again like you normally do.”
“True, I guess you have a point. Unfortunately, that won’t happen until we get back. We are leaving tonight since the police caught onto us. So, who knows when we will be able to come back?” Ido said and Adrian nodded his head understanding, he was glad he got out of it. Moving from place to place and never having a home have always been difficult for him.
Adrian was actually glad to be back in his hometown. He always had a nostalgia when walking around the town he would be teaching at. He smiled slightly but Ido nudge him slightly looking at him.
“Yeah, well good luck with that. That is one thing I won’t miss, is having to leave a life I had behind.”
“Wish I could do what you are doing. I wish you the best of luck man.”
“Thanks, don’t get yourself killed or get caught. I have money tucked away but bailing you out would definitely break the bank.”
“Yeah, and if you ever need a partner. You know how to reach me; we won’t leave you hanging if you need us.”
“Thank you, Ido,” Adrian said and hugged his closest friend, who returned the hug.
“Don’t forget, give people a chance and go on dates.” Ido made his way out of Adrian’s home, preparing to leave for who knows when. AJ smiled slightly, shaking his as he hummed slightly. Of course, Ido would encourage him to go on dates, but that was the last thing on his mind.
