13 Will's Instincts

Kitty smiled at Leo. "You should go talk to Will before coming to bed. You left him downstairs without an explanation. I'll be safe in the hotel room." She kissed the palm of his hand and slowly fell asleep.

Leo watched her sleep for a little bit, then got up and closed the door to the bedroom. He picked up the shoes, placed hers by the door, put on his shoes, and left the room, but he hung up the do not disturb sign on his way out of the room. He walked down to Will's room and knocked on the door.

Will opened the door and looked at Leo. "Is she okay?" He moved aside and let Leo enter his room.

"She keeps telling people that she is not fragile, but honestly, she sure seems fragile. She passed out shortly after getting into the room." He sat down on the couch. 'She seems so much weaker than I was expecting, but I am still grateful that I tracked her down.' Leo stared at the coffee table. "I really wasn't expecting her to be in this state. I was hoping that I could bring her home right away."

Will looked at his friend. He poured some bourbon in a glass with ice and handed it to his friend. "It's going to be okay, Leo." Will looked down at the computer. "You lied to me at dinner, though. There is something here, and you know something about it."

Leo took a sip from his drink, staying silent. 'Her powers are volatile. Will must have sensed it. What is the best course of action to protect my love and her people?' Leo inwardly sighed. "Will, your instincts are always so sharp but don't go digging this up. Don't make me regret letting you go home." He glared at his friend.

"Judging how defensive you are, it has to do with Kitty. Leo, are you planning to betray the organization? I know she is your world but is it worth losing what you have built up? You are next in line to take over it all, and you could change how everything is ran. You are way too kind for this job. I can't understand your way of thinking sometimes."

Leo froze at the mention of Kitty. "Will enough. I know you don't understand my thought process, but I am not under anyone's control. Why should all the non-humans be killed? Some of them never even hurt humans." Leo drinks down the rest of the bourbon. "We have this conversation every time the CEOs tell you to keep an eye on me. Am I under suspicion again? They always make you do this." Leo shakes his head. 'This couldn't be the worst time for this to happen.' He places his hand on his forehead and massages between the bridge between his eyes.

Will poured more bourbon into Leo's cup. "I never said you were under anyone's control. You are too strong-willed for that to even work. After working so many jobs with you, I know how your mind works, and you know that those thoughts could get you killed, yet you are still alive today, so that doesn't seem to be completely true. You know that I am a supporter of your beliefs. I never report the problems, and the head office has never found out about all the things you have done against code. I got an email to stay here for two extra days because the head office thinks there is something here. I have to make it look like I am investigating. You are in a lot of trouble right now, Leo. I want to help you. Why must you always struggle by yourself?"

"Will I never doubted your loyalty, but this isn't just about me." He touched his heart and thought of Kitty in her weakened state. 'Kitty, what is the right course of action to take? This isn't just about me anymore.' Leo picked up his glass and drank it all in one shot.

There was a knock at the door, but neither of the men moved. "If neither of you don't open this door, I'll let myself in!" Kitty yelled at the door.

Leo stared at the door in shock and rushed to get the door open. "What are you doing up?" He said as he opened the door.

Kitty walked through the door. She was in her fox form. "Leo, I'm pretty sure I said that I was not fragile. I just needed to rest, and since you didn't come back, I came to see what was going on. You two are too loud and are lucky that I put up a barrier, or else someone else could've heard what you two were talking about." She slammed the door. "I thought hunters were more careful than this?"

Leo froze at her appearance. "Is it wise to be walking about in your natural form?" Leo didn't know what else to say. He didn't notice her presence. "What exactly did you hear?"

Will looked at Kitty and back at Leo. "It's no wonder you wanted to get her back to your room Leo. I've never met a fox demon like this before. If I didn't think something was up with you, I would've never thought that she wasn't a human."

"I heard EVERYTHING!" She pointed her finger at Leo. "You have an excellent friend, and I think it is safe to trust him. Your bosses are really cautious, but it is ridiculous that all non-humans would hurt humans. Some of us just want to live in peace. So if you are working to change the system, I would like to help out in any way that I can." She then turned to Will. "If anything happens to any of my people, you will bear my wrath, Will. I'm sure just about none of the hunters your age have met a fox demon that is in their fox form. We don't usually stay in this form long unless we have to. In my case, I have no choice but to stay in my natural form."

The truth is rarely pure, and never simple.

In the sweetness of friendship let there be laughter, and sharing of pleasures. For in the dew of little things the heart finds its morning and is refreshed.
