Startled by the unexpected knock on my door, I rubbed my eyes and rose from the comfort of my bed. The darkness outside signaled that I had been lost in a deep slumber, unaware of the passage of time. As I made my way to the door, a sense of trepidation mingled with curiosity, for who could be seeking my presence at such an hour?
Opening the door, I found myself face to face with the King, his presence commanding and his attire elegantly minimal. His demeanor held an air of importance, a gravity that demanded attention. Surprised by his appearance, my mind raced to comprehend the reason behind his visit.
He smiled at me slightly before he speaks, "Good evening, Princess Sequo- I mean Nyra." He corrected himself.
"Good evening, King..." I said, lowly, still not comfortable.
"King Frederick Vandenberg, but you can call me... father if you want" his voice become low when he said that.
Father? Should I call him father? Can I?
"Good evening, Fa..." I noticed him waiting for me to say the whole word but I changed it.
Instead, I said. "Good evening, King Frederick."
I'd like to give it a try, but it just doesn't feel right. When I changed what I was going to say, I could see his dismay visible on his face. I'm saddened by his reaction, but I couldn't consider him my father since I do not even remember him being a father to me.
He cleared his throat "May I come in?" he asked, I nodded and pulled my door widely open.
Intrigued by the King's demeanor and the urgency in his gaze, I followed his lead without hesitation. We stepped out onto the balcony, the cool night air gently caressing our faces. The moon cast a soft glow, illuminating the surroundings with a touch of ethereal beauty.
Once we were outside, the King's eyes briefly scanned the horizon before settling on me. His gaze held a mix of concern and determination, hinting at the gravity of the situation at hand.
"How was your stay in your chamber? Is there anything you need or want to change?" As soon as I got close to him, he asked while looking at the scenery in front of us.
"Everything is fine," I said quickly as I shook my head at him.
He stared into the sky, "The Adbeels, Everett, have gone too far," he whispered but enough for me to hear it.
Now, who is Everett?
"Everette? Who is Everett?" I asked him
He sighs, "Everett is my older brother, and he was once a very powerful Paragon with Life and death magic. We never really got along because he used to bully me for being a weak Paragon. He expected to be the next King of this land, but when our parents saw how greedy and cunning he became, they announced that I would be the next King instead." He paused for a moment, "He became furious and claimed I done it on purpose. He then fled the village without leaving any trace. He did not appear to us since about twelve years ago. You turned nine that year. He seized control of the Adbeels in this nation and attacked our castle. As he gained strength, he planned to abduct you and employ your usage against me. But his plan failed, so he tried to get you again."
I frowned at what I heard, "But why now? And why did you still let me stay in the human's town when you knew they wanted to take me? " I asked, becoming enraged once again.
I do not really understand, why would they let me be in public when I could be safer here, where there are plenty of guards.
He sighed, "Because he would not assume I would let you in a public place after he attempted to abduct you. He would think I would hide you on our hiding land or somewhere we own. That is why he began attacking our properties, but when he could not find you, he stopped." he explained while looking into my eyes, which were filled with a mix of emotions.
As the realization of the truth settled within me, understanding replaced my previous confusion. The reasons for their actions became clear, and a bittersweet understanding washed over me. Yet, despite this newfound understanding, a storm of emotions continued to churn within my chest, refusing to be easily quelled.
Sadness lingered, a heavy weight that tugged at my heartstrings, reminding me of the pain and loss I had endured.
I raised my hand a little as I had a thought for a question.
"How come they attacked our village, looking for me if he stopped?" I asked once again.
How did he know I was in that village?
"As soon as you turned 18, I guess he sensed your strong energy because of your gift." he took my palm "Deep red is a rare, powerful, and sacred color. Elemental is represented by deep red color, and it has been ages since the last Paragon with Elemental power."
"Is that the reason why the Queen is unfamiliar with it because it is extremely uncommon?" I asked, remembering the Queen's words to me before she left my chamber.
He nodded, "It's been decades since a Paragon with your ability died. Other paragons possess elemental abilities such as fire, but not like you. They can only control one elemental power, whereas you have control over seven or more. That is how strong and powerful your gift is."
"How about you, what's your gift?" I asked, curiously.
He showed me his palm, lines are a pale pink color. Suddenly our surroundings became a forest with a huge lake in front of us.
"Wow, " I whispered and walked towards the lake but my father stopped me by grabbing my right wrist, and then the forest disappeared in just a second.
I looked down at where I am standing, I am standing on the handrail of my balcony. I gasped how high I would have fallen if the king had not stopped me, while my father laughed and helped me go down immediately.
"Illusion is my gift; if not broken and at a high enough level, Illusions can do anything, including instant death. With my illusion, I can lead or trap my opponent to their death. But my gift is more than that; it all depends on how I want to use it." He explained, and I was amazed by his gift.
"Soon, you will enroll in a school to hone your gift. But for the time being, you will be trained both physically and mentally anytime soon, so brace yourself because it will not be easy," he added, and I was just staring at him- still fascinated by everything.
Because of what he said, I stared at my palm. I have a number of questions about my ability, and I still can not believe this is happening to me. This is mental! I never imagined my life could be so mind-blowing.
As he speaks, the King walks away from me, "For the time being, we shall go downstairs because dinner will be served any second. I know you do not want to sleep with an empty stomach again." He said, and left.
This gift is my chance; it will help me for my vengeance. I gazed up at the half-moon in the sky. Everett, wait for me; I will avenge the innocent people you brutally murdered. Your evilness will come to an end soon.
