Being confident is not the same as being arrogant

Mr. Edwards handed me the bow and said, "Now, you try it. Do it exactly as I showed you."

I exhaled loudly and grabbed an arrow, placing the end on the bowstring as he directed. I lifted the bow while holding the bowstring in my other hand, straightened my hand and back, then gradually stretched the bowstring until it was in my cheek before letting go of it.

It was just in the white ring and missed the mark points, but at least it didn't land in front of me just like my first try.

"That's not good, but it's also not bad," Mr. Edwards, who was eating a piece of bread not far from me, said. "Try to keep your hands more firm, close your non-dominant eye, and aim through the peep sight with your other eye while keeping your concentration on the target."

I paid close attention to what he stated and followed it.

I positioned my body and bow like before but before I let go of the string I stabled my hand and closed my right eye and let go of it.

and it landed on the blue ring. YES!

I turned to face Mr. Edwards with a great grin of pride. He shook his head with a smile on his face when he saw how ecstatic I had been.

I did some more practice with the bow and arrow before we moved on to the small knives I'd been curious about.

Can they really damage an enemy given their size? Because I don't think so.

Mr. Edwards told me about their name and their use but I was not really paying attention to them because I am not interested in any of them.

What I want to practice is the bow and arrow, I did not listen to what he had to say about the knives and yawned to make him know I'm not interested.

I assume he noticed how uninterested I appeared and instead took a huge sword and handed it to me.

"Because you seemed uninterested in these knives, let's proceed with the tough one." He said

"How is this the tough one? Swords are simple to use; swing them while aiming at your opponent. Easy," I lazily stated, and did some moves with the sword, slowly, trying not to cut anything.

"See? Can't I just focus with a bow and arrow? We did this to see which weapon I would prefer, so why do I need to try the other weapons? That is such a waste of time." I said and sips my water.

Mr. Edwards frowned at my statement, "Are you saying that learning is a waste of time?" My words perplexed and irritated him.

I tried to make my point clear by saying, "No, what I'm trying to say is that swords are simpler to use than bow and arrow."

Mr. Edwards sarcastically nodded his head, "Ok, I challenge you to fight me with swords then. "He responded, picking up another sword before heading toward the center. With every step, I confidently followed behind him.

I'll prove to him that I'm right and he's wrong so we can put this conversation to rest. I did exactly as he did, holding the blade straight in front of me with both hands.

He started by moving a little closer to me and attacking my sword with his. He swiftly used his sword to strike my blade hard just as I was ready to attack him, which forced me to drop the sword. He instantly thrust the blade of his sword against my neck to prevent me from taking up my weapon as I was ready to do so after giving it a quick glance.

Damn, he's too fast!

"Being confident is not the same as being arrogant, young lady." His statement stunned me.

Is he implying that by making my opinion clear, I am being arrogant?

"Keep in mind why we're doing this training. We are doing this to help you in obtaining the justice you seek; you stated that you wanted to become stronger and avenge the innocent people who died because of the Adbeels, right?" I slowly nodded at him.

"Right now, I only see a brat kid who doesn't want to learn and doesn't want to be taught. And If you're simply going to be arrogant when you're not even that good enough. Then, I think we should just stop this." He added, which caused my eyes to widen in horror.

I tried to speak, but I was at a loss for words. I can tell how disappointed he is with me, and At that very moment, I'm starting to see how much of a snob I've turned into.

It's as if I've turned into a complete different woman; I've come to recognize how easily annoyed and harsh I can be.

I wasn't like this before, but the life I'm living today has made me deluded and arrogant.

I am so disappointed by my drastic change of personality; my adoptive parents did not raise me to be self-centered and it hurt me to know that I have become one without realizing it.

"Tell your father that our training has already stopped because someone turned into a whiner." He muttered and turned his back to me.

"No Mr. Ed-" I tried to catch him but I was too late, he already disappeared in the air.

His words felt like they were stabbing me in the chest. Everything he said was correct; I was conceited.

Due to what happened, I became really disappointed with myself. Mr. Amado attempted to approach me as I enter the castle, but I gestured for him not to.

I can't face him either because of how badly I treated him over the last few weeks, and I know he was also puzzled by the change in my attitude.

I entered the castle and noticed how terrified the maids seemed to be when they saw me.

At first, I didn't understand why, but then I remembered how I yell at them when they made tiny mistakes.

When I could no longer contain my tears, I rushed to my chamber and locked myself.

How could I become so evil?!
