Episode(10): Death?
SOVEREIGN OF DEATH~(10)
[You're kidding right? Y–you still had more abilities!?]
Nagisa could only curse. Literally, what were the odds that he had just found his fighting spirit yet his opponent powered up at the last moment?
F*ck!
What was this, Dr*gon b*llz?
It was like studying for the complex parts of a math exam only to find out that the exam only centered on the simple parts that no one studied for. Nagisa almost felt tears at the corner of his eyes.
A fierce growl left the wolf's mouth at the same time as he was in anguish.
Standing ferociously on its two hind legs and howling to the sky it was like it had just found its hidden potential.
Nagisa on the other hand was lamenting his shitty luck and thought of just killing himself with a block of butter.
Maybe then he could end up in a better place.
****
Aaah! Shit shit shit!
Curses spat out inside Nagisa's head. The situation was so unfavorable he started to wonder who exactly had this deep a grudge against him. At the moment he was being rushed by the wolf and was completely unable to fight back.
It speed not to mention its strength was so out of this damn world that if he hadn't improved his perception moments ago he probably would have died with a single strike.
Its sharp and menacing claws tore through the air with a horrifying force. It was enough to tear reinforced steel like a normal paper and Nagisa wasn't in the slightest keen on taking a strike at all.
When he tried to step back and increased the distance it would chased him down. The wolf wouldn't give him a chance to escape its reach so Nagisa had no choice but to work his skills to the fullest dodging and blocking as much as he could.
By now Nagisa's body was filled with wounds and his white shirt was stained with the red of his blood. Even though they were shallow wounds and didn't cause much trouble, if this continued he knew he would be in a tough spot.
As the knife like claws whizzed fiercely through the air, Nagisa jumped back. His movements were anxious as he felt his stamina draining and his reactions were slowing down.
But every time he recalled that the only thing waiting for him at the end of those sharp claws were death, his body had no choice but to react even if he wanted to roll around and give in to the exhaustion.
On the other hand, while Nagisa was becoming weaker and weaker by the second, the wolf that had somehow evolved began to increase his assault. The speed of his attacks and counters became increasingly harder to dodge and Nagisa could only struggle.
Just when he managed to dodge the attack, the wolf stomped against the ground flinging its body forward faster than Nagisa could evade the strike. it was so fast that he could only watch like a spectator as it happened.
The wolf dragged its claw against the ground creating a myriad of fluttering sparks. The attack came all too fast, the timing was perfect since Nagisa was still in the process of evading the previous strike not to mention he was too exhausted to make any extra movement.
If this were any other day Nagisa wouldn't have much issue being flexible even while mid-air, now however? Nagisa was just too weak for him to properly dodge.
With a sound of flesh being torn, the sharp claws tore through Nagisa's chest causing a deep wound and blood to spray.
'Guh!...'
Luckily, Nagisa still reacted somewhat and twisted his body slightly at the end so he didn't die. However the wound made it hard for him to tell when his coffin would open.
Nagisa took the strike to his chest and gritted his teeth. He didn't wallow in the pain but instead rolled a few time before he sprang up and began running.
His enemy now was a supernatural force that he had no way to combat and he wasn't willing to take the risk. Just look at the wound on his chest. Just a slight graze on his chest tore his chest open like a textbook.
Blood continued to spurt endlessly but Nagisa had no choice but to move so he ignored the burning pain and ran.
The wolf saw Nagisa evade and was incensed. Now that it evolved and gained more power it thought Nagisa would give up in his show of strength. But seeing its prey hop around so persistently caused the wolf to be enraged.
Its body suddenly bent back and the wolf angrily howled at the sky. Its howl shook the cave and a heavy aura erupted from its body covering the entire cave.
Nagisa cursed as he felt the aura of the wolf increase and knew that some ploy was at work. He really wanted to turn around and give the damned mutt a good beating. But if he did that he'd only be asking to die so he kept running.
The wolf on the other hand was unwilling to let him go. It bent forward and got on all fours before setting its sight on Nagisa. The wolf stood there motionless for a movement before it accelerated.
A speed completely unlike before as it quickly closed the distance between itself and Nagisa.
Nagisa just happened to turn back at the moment and his eyes were opened wide in shock.
'Fck!'
Instinctively, Nagisa's body smoothly twisted and he accurately hit the wolf in an open gap sending it rolling for a distance. But Nagisa was also sent back this time as well.
'I-Its gotten tougher as well'
Standing up quietly, Nagisa glanced at his trembling right leg then looked back at the wolf. It had already gotten up and was preparing for a rush.
Nagisa looked around and noticed that the wall they had broken through had already sealed back up.
Sh*t!
Curses flew across his brain as his mind went blank. It seemed he really wouldn't be able to make it out alive if he continued running. Nagisa gritted his teeth and thought of the grinning face of that evil pigeon winged b*tch!
Rage surged through his entire body and he couldn't help but slam his fist to the floor.
[Hahahaha!]
Nagisa laughed.
[Fine then, screw it all!]
His mind was in a frenzy and all he wanted now was to vent his emotions. Nagisa couldn't understand why fate dealt him such a disastrous set of cards. But he didn't care.
Since fate wanted him to die then he'd raise a middle finger to that very fate.
[Let's get to killing each other then mutt!]
His true nature had been released and he was going berserk. Nagisa right now only had one motive on his mind, kill the bastard dog before him. Then everything would be over.
As if in answer to his shout, the wolf howled to the air and rushed forward. It charged on its four legs at an incredible speed almost resembled a blur.
But Nagisa wasn't to be outdone. No one, not even he himself knew where the sudden surge of energy came from but his body began to move freely.
He floated over the wolf's attack with a jump. Hurriedly coming to a stop, the wolf lifted its upper body and turned while singing its claws.
Nagisa's eyes were swirling as his mind was solely focusing on every move this monster made. The moment he saw the claw whiz at him, he leaned his body to the side and raise his leg.
Bam!
The wolf's head flung back and it took a step back.
It quickly recovered after a step, but that slight moment gave Nagisa enough time to move. He slid close into the wolf's space and struck its stomach, arms and legs in all the weak points his perception showed him.
Immediately, the wolf's body froze and it's attacks stopped for a moment. Nagisa used this chance.
He jumped and grabbed the wolf's head in a hold before using his weight to flip the huge wolf over.
In the wolf's eyes, the world twisted shortly before it landed heavily on the ground. As it realized that Nagisa was completely thrashing it one-sidedly, the wolf tried to get up so it could avenge its pride.
At that moment however, a soccer kick came from the side squarely landing on its face sending the wolf tumbling over. The heavy kick easily sent the wolf flying but Nagisa clicked his tongue.
The reason was because the wolf easily got up and pushed off the ground towards him yet again.
Nagisa didn't panic however.
Instead he patiently waited for the wolf and its attack.
In less than a second, it arrived before Nagisa and swung its claws. He managed to block with his right arm but the claws still sunk into his shoulder.
Yet Nagisa ignored the pain with a grimace then grabbed the wolf's neck and slammed his elbow down on top of his head.
Elbow, knee, skull.
Right now these were the toughest weapons Nagisa had and it'd be a waste not to use them.
The attack shook the wolfs head up and it stepped back disoriented. Nagisa saw this and smiled and in the next moment he grabbed the wolf yet again. This time he jumped and with his knee he slammed it into the wolf's neck.
It coughed like it was choking on a fishbone and tried to move away from Nagisa with its hazy eyes, but Nagisa's didn't let it off.
Strike after strike Nagisa vented his emotions with smooth and heavy kicks and fists at its weak points until finally he twisted his body and threw the wolf off to create some distance.
Nagisa wanted some leg room to breathe and think. He thought this would be perfect timing because he did so much damage, but he obviously underestimated the wolf's ability to bear pain.
The wolf had stood up after just a few moments. Cursing, Nagisa could only begrudgingly hold a stance but at the next moment his eyes widened.
Shu!*
Like the vanishing of a spirit, the wolf disappeared from before his eyes.
F*ck!
This was the first time Nagisa ever saw such a thing and it simply left him baffled that such a speed was actually possible.
He stood stunned on the spot, but the next moment warning bells rung in his head and he instinctively raised his arms to block.
Nagisa realized it too late however.
There, in the side of his vision was a huge husky figure swinging its ferocious claws. Although he lifted his arms to block, what was human flesh against such monsters?
A deep pain assaulted Nagisa as his arm was nearly torn off. Blood splattered across the ground and Nagisa was still in a shock.
His expression was blank as the scene played out slowly in his mind. But as the pain registered in his mind he came back to his senses and acted immediately.
He crouched quickly evading the follow up strike, But as soon as the attack passed over head Nagisa felt danger yet again.
Baring its fangs it attempted to just take a bite out of his flesh. Nagisa grunted.
He quickly reacted this time as well all while bearing the sharp pain in his arm and rolled to the side.
The wolf seeing it missed quickly rushed after him but Nagisa leapt to the sky in anxiety.
'Tch!'
Powerful.
It was way too powerful and Nagisa didn't even have time to see his life flash before his eyes.
He wanted to quickly escape this predicament but it was obvious that no matter what, the wolf wouldn't stop trying to pounce on him till he was dead.
It raised its head towards Nagisa who was still yet to fall to the ground and roared. The waves from its roar reverberated and struck Nagisa like a blunt weapon sending him soaring through the air.
Hurriedly, he crossed his arms to block but it was no use. His body propelled backwards and he soon crashed heavily into a huge rock creating several spider web like cracks.
The wolf sped over as soon as Nagisa crashed into the stone. Maybe it was just afraid of Nagisa escaping again, but Nagisa honestly felt like his body was completely out of fuel.
The collision with the huge stone made his organs feel like they were having a wild frat party inside his stomach, not to mention his body was already overworked.
The wolf easily lifted Nagisa by the leg and threw him crashing to the cave wall. A thud later, Nagisa's figure slid down the wall leaving bloodstains behind.
It was obvious to literally anyone that even if he weren't dead he'd die soon.
With his hazy eyes, Nagisa watched the wolf slowly come closer to him.
[Kh]
He wanted to move, but the moment he tried all the muscles and bones in his body screamed in agony. His face flushed red and he spat out a mouthful of blood.
Soon, his face had gone completely pale and he was losing vitality at a shocking pace.
He felt it, the scythe of death pressed against his blade. Even if he didn't die due to the wolf his blood loss would kill him.
Nagisa clenched his fist and was indignant. To die in such a way, it was unacceptable and his rage began to burn again.
His hazy eyes regained focus and ignoring the pain barraging his body and soul, Nagisa moved. In a coincidence it was just the time when the wolf sprinted forward and attacked.
The strike hit the wall instantly spreading dust and rubble all over the place. Just the power of that strike was enough to pierce through Nagisa easily making him shudder involuntarily.
But Nagisa suppressed his shudder and moved. He knew that the wolf wouldn't sustain much damage from normal attacks so all he had to do was to target the chink in its armor.
Since he didn't have weapons, he could only target a number of places.
One of them being-
The eyes!!
Nagisa moved like a blur stabbing his hands through the wolf's eye and firmly gripping the white eyeball before dragging it out from the socket. The scene was gruesome, but concerned with his survival Nagisa couldn't give a hoot!
A shriek unlike its terrifying howling escaped the wolf's mouth. It wanted the pain in its eyes to end and hurriedly grabbed Nagisa's hand before throwing him off to the side.
Nagisa rolled before he finally stopped and got up. He was tired and his pale face gave away that he was in bad condition but his fierce gaze said he was willing to fight to the death.
Nagisa wiped his bloody face brushing aside the strands of hair hanging down.
[Now that we've both suffered damage were on level platforms]
Although he said so confidently, Nagisa didn't even believe his words. He was so badly injured that he had a few minor fractures and a lot of deep severe wounds. His blood loss was already a severe case but he wouldn't look weak before his enemy.
Even while knowing his condition wasn't the best his killing intent never once died down. The very moment he let go of this anger, he didn't know what would happen.
Perhaps the adrenaline would run out and he'd just fall unconscious here and now.
He couldn't allow that to happen and thus let the fire in his heart run amok.
Fight! Fight! Fight!
His heart thumped wildly in his chest. However Nagisa's body felt weak and that feeling grew by the minute.
He gritted his teeth and clenched his fist knowing that today would be his last either way.
Unclenched his fist and looked to the sky as if in search of something and sighed helplessly.
He thought to himself that it was funny how he gained strength surpassing any normal human but here was dying to some fantasy monster.
If he had a sword he was confident he could kill it.
No, it didn't even have to be a sword. But-
'There's no use mulling over such a useless thing now'
He lowered his gaze to meet the wolf. It glared at him as if it was ready to pounce at any moment.
As he saw the wolf and recalled everything he had to go through, a determined gaze filled his eyes.
'It's a warriors pride to live and die in battle'
Nagisa was sure his ancestors would be proud even if they looked down on what he was about to do.
All of a sudden, a broad smile was strewn on his face.
The smile made the wolf that had been menacing all this while shiver involuntarily. It had somewhat gained a bit of intelligence due to its evolution not to mention it was already a variant. But it was only intelligent as a beast and wasn't as smart as a human.
But right now it had a chill sent down its spine.
Nagisa then gazed toward the end of the cavern and in the next second he started to run.
Seeing this, the wolf discarded all thoughts of fear and ran forward. As its instincts wanted its prey, the wolf would never let it go. It completely forgot the chilling feeling and ran forward.
Nagisa ran and he could see at the end of his vision was a huge chasm in the ground. It was dark and the bottom couldn't even be seen. The moment he was just a few meters away from the chasm, he halted his steps and turned around.
There, the wolf charged like a bull with no intention of stopping at all.
It didn't even have hesitation in its movements and attacked the moment it closed the distance. Biting into the flesh of its prey, the wolf thought with glee that it had caught its prey finally.
But the next moment the wolf was shocked.
Nagisa grabbed the wolf in a bear hug and squeezed it tightly with all of his strength. Veins bulged in his arms and the wolf tried hard to struggle but couldn't get free at all.
Knowing that the moment he let go his situation would be bad for him, Nagisa didn't hesitate at all. He held on firmly to the wolf and jumped back into the chasm.
The wolf was flabbergasted and tried to get away but with a crazed look on his face, Nagisa also bit down into the wolf's flesh.
The wolf howled in pain and realized all too late that this guy was a maniac.
Nagisa laughed madly as he fell to his death.
The fall wasn't long at all. In fact, in just a few 20 seconds they had already arrived at the bottom. However during the fall Nagisa's mind slowed down as several thoughts raced through his mind.
He didn't want to die. Nobody did and no matter how mentally strong he was, Nagisa still feared death.
But there was no other choice. Death was the only path to victory and so he took it without hesitation. If he had another chance he was probably do the same, no. He would do exactly the same again.
Soon enough, his fall came to an abrupt end. A sharp rock pierced right through his and the wolf's body impaling them both.
Nagisa spat out blood as the pain assailed him.
It hurt him so much he wanted to scream but he felt like the moment he screamed the pain would be even more unbearable. He had no choice but to hurriedly calm his breathing and grit his teeth.
To his utter shock, the wolf continued to struggle.
Nagisa didn't know if the wolf could survive if he got free, so Nagisa decided to act first. He didn't want to sacrifice himself while leaving his enemy alive so the moment he thought about it his eyes turned cold and he moved.
[Stay....still you bastard!]
Using all his remaining strength, he gripped the wolf's throat and ripped out its trachea.
Its mouth opened and closed in shock and terror, but the moment Nagisa saw his chance to completely end the wolf he grabbed the tongue like it was a lifesaving line at the end of a cliff.
Tug!
Nagisa pulled the tongue out along with several internal organs and a mess of blood that fell on his face. It was a grotesque sight and even as the one who did it Nagisa almost barfed.
But he held back.
Soon, a quiet hush fell over the surroundings. With only the dripping of his blood and the piercing pain to keep him conscious, Nagisa felt like he was beginning to see the darkness of death.
It was the end and he could feel it. Honestly, death felt a lot more peaceful than he had thought and a serene smile arose on his face.
Memories slowly raced through his mind from when he was younger training to be the best all the way to when he had completed his training.
Nagisa spat blood then looked at the protruding sharp stone and laughed. This was all his training was worth.
Dying to some nameless monster in another world. He felt helpless just thinking about the events that led to this.
Slowly but surely, his consciousness began to slip in and out. He was dying.
Surprisingly, a tear fell from his eyes. Feeling the wet sensation at the corner of his eyes, Nagisa smiled helplessly but couldn't do a thing. Even if he cursed the gods he'd still end up dying today.
As a helpless human being he could only answer to the whims of fate no matter what the outcome may be.
Why?
He wanted to know why him.
'It's not like its going to matter anyway, I mean I'm still dying here'
Maybe this was just how it was supposed to be. He'd struggled long enough and felt like he had done enough.
His rage had yet to subside, even so he was resigned to his fate that couldn't be helped.
Still, a voice inside of him kept shouting for him to survive no matter what.
'What is it…that-voice…'
That's right he wanted to live. He didn't want to die no matter what and wanted to live.
But it was already too late.
His arms fell to the sides lifelessly as he hung off the sharp rock with dead eyes. Nagisa had died.
