"I always had a dream, where I was with a girl who was profoundly beautiful; her charms would always attract me. Yet her eyes were always shrouded by this light. Each night she and I would always meet in my dreams, she always had this warm smile on her face each time we had a conversation, her voice was calming and gentle. But whenever I wake up I forget what kind voice she had, and no matter how I try to remember it, nothing would come to mind"
RING!!! RING!!!
As I was having the daily dream I had ever since before, I was awoken by the irritating ringtone of my phone. With my eyes still shut from just waking up I tried to answer it... a beeping tone emitted from my phone when I pressed my finger on it. I was drowsy from having to play an online game last evening with a few friends of mine from college.
"Who's calling...? Hello? Anyone there... Speak up... Are you pranking me or something...? "
Irritated, I forced my eyes open and figured out why no one was answering. The phone had the recent calls app open and there I saw it. Five red colored numbers were on my screen. It was the person who was trying to reach me, I was fully awoken by my stupidity, thinking it was something extremely important I rushed and called that person back. I felt a quick shiver down my spine when it took a few minutes for someone to answer, I stared intensely on my ringing phone waiting for someone to pick it up, and after a minute or so it was answered.
"AH! I'm sorry for declining your call. My name is Caleb, is there anything I could help you with?" I immediately uttered.
A few seconds had passed but no one had given a reply, by that time I was fully awake thinking if the person on the other side was my boss calling me for something related to my work. A familiar voice spoke after those few seconds passed, it was a dear friend of mine from high school, and I felt so light once I heard his voice. It was as if I was unchained from the fear of hearing my boss's voice. But for some reason I was also annoyed, who would call me this early in the morning and why would he even call me.
"Hey, Caleb are you listening?"
I blacked out for a second when I heard a faint nose on my shoulder opposite to my phone.
"Sorry, I was not listening. Can you please repeat it?"
I had no idea why I spoke in such a formal way, I knew that this person was a friend of mine but for some reason I spoke as if he was my boss.
"What the hell are you even doing, dude? Anyway here's the thing, I wanted to play with you and the band before I move back to the states, so I was thinking if you could play the drums on last time?"
Casper, was one of my old buddies from high school, we formed a group back then to perform on a school event known as "Battle-of-the-bands" as its name suggests it was an event where in we students would play songs to our other students and be scored by judges.
Casper was this bright guy who was always the center of attraction in our batch along with a few others, he was one of a kind being born and raised in the states when he was young. Then when he reached high school he studied here in the Philippines up until our graduation. He was our lead singer and played the guitar. He was quite skillful at it but had his flaws since he only started learning it when he got to high school after our music teacher teased my classmates using his talent.
"I haven't played the drums for quite some time now so I don't think I can play that properly..."
I gave an awkward reply knowing that this guy, if he was set on something, he would not stop until he gets it. He was admired by most of our classmates for his eagerness on the things he liked.
"No worries, I haven't played the guitar so you don't need to worry about anything. Also if you're thinking about the venue then no worries, Tina has had it all fixed. If you're thinking of the crowd then there nothing you really have to worry about since it's only our batch mates that we've invited"
This guy... is really unshakable, I wonder if the others felt the same thing I'm feeling right now. Well seems like I got no choice, playing for my former classmates huh? I wonder how they all changed.
"Oh... by the way-"
Beep...
Did... did this guy just hang up on me. Ah, I remembered something I did in the past that was quite unreasonable. I remember punching that guy in the face after forcing me to a practice, telling me when and where it was but never gave me the time; I had no phone back then so I sat outside of the studio for hours waiting for them. In the end he apologized and accepted his mistakes. He was that type of person who would never deny his mistakes and would obviously do something to redeem himself; ugh... he's too troublesome.
I checked on my phone and saw a message request from a group chat; it was created last night and had most of our classmates in it. They all seemed pretty cheerful as they talked about our high school days. Remembering those times, seems pretty fun, remembering the stupidity they made, recalling all the fun moments and recollected the tears we all shed when we graduated. Ah, a splendid memory indeed.
Knock... knock...
