KRS 1 Phone

In the PC Expo of 1992, while it was a fantastic opportunity for Rebolt Technologies to showcase their groundbreaking new cellular phone, it also provided an opportunity for Albert Chandler and his company to connect with potential customers and partners.

During the early 1990s, the computer and electronics industries were increasingly globalized. While it was still uncommon for some families to have a computer in certain countries, in first-world countries like the USA, Europe, and select Asian countries such as Japan and South Korea, computers were already widely used for various tasks, greatly benefiting many companies' workspaces.

PC Expo served as an excellent platform to interact with potential customers and partners from around the world. Japanese companies like Tora, Suzuki, and Mitsubishi, along with South Korean companies like Samstar, and other international firms, presented their latest technological products at this event.

With a multitude of products on display, Albert Chandler was aware that grabbing the attention of the majority of attendees would be a daunting task.

Then, a blond man named Matthias and a red-haired woman named Lily approached the Rebolt Technology booth, with Matthias, who sported a mustache, pointing to the sleek black cellular phone, which happened to be the KiShin Rebolt Series 1. He inquired with a touch of surprise, "Oh? Is this a cellular phone?"

Albert Chandler let out a sigh of relief that someone had finally taken notice and replied, "That's correct." He picked up the cellular phone and brought it closer to Matthias and Lily, saying, "This is the KiShin Rebolt Series 1 phone."

Matthias nodded, and the word 'KiShin' triggered a sense of familiarity in his mind, which he conveniently brushed aside.

As Matthias and Lily examined the phone, they noticed it was notably thinner and more compact compared to other cellular phones on the market. Matthias held the phone, finding it comfortable in his hand and far less bulky. The red logo on the front cover read "KRS 1."

"KRS 1, huh..." Matthias nodded thoughtfully as he tested the keypad, surprised by its smoothness.

When the screen remained dark, Matthias furrowed his brows and asked Albert Chandler, "Is it not turning on?"

Albert Chandler smiled and explained, "Press this button here, and it will turn on." He pointed to the power button located just below the small antenna.

Matthias nodded, while Lily stood by with keen interest. After a brief moment of pressing the button, the "KRS 1" logo appeared on the screen, accompanied by a catchy boot-up tone, and the cellular phone quickly powered on.

Subsequently, the phone powered up completely, displaying the message "INSERT SIM CARD!" before transitioning into a menu interface located at the lower left of the screen, with memory options on the lower right.

Lily nodded in approval, although she couldn't help but feel that it appeared similar to other phones. However, what captured her and Matthias' attention was its slim design and the appealing sound it emitted upon startup.

A small crowd formed behind Matthias and Lily, with onlookers expressing their curiosity about the phones at the Rebolt Technology booth, particularly the one Matthias was holding.

One person remarked, "We didn't come here for nothing; that phone looks quite stylish!"

"Yeah, it's really slim..."

More people began to approach the Rebolt Technology booth, and fortunately, Albert Chandler had already arranged for a few assistants to attend to the inquiries. Albert himself continued to introduce the product to interested visitors, stating, "This is our latest cellular phone, surpassing others on the market in terms of design, features, and functionality."

Matthew muttered with a furrowed brow, "Surpasses other cellular phones, huh?" His skepticism was clearly visible.

The same sentiment resonated with other individuals who approached Rebolt Technology's booth for electronic products. While they acknowledged the phone's slim and ergonomic design, they remained uncertain about its "Features or Functions."

Noticing the skepticism on people's faces, Albert Chandler offered an explanation with a reassuring smile, saying, "To demonstrate, those of you who are currently holding and testing our cellular phones can press the menu button, and you'll be able to explore the phone's features and functions."

Matthias and some others holding the KSR 1 phone exchanged glances as they pressed the menu button, and the screen transitioned into a list of options like 'Calls,' 'Send Messages,' and 'Received Messages.'

'Calls,' 'Send messages,' and 'Received messages' – these were indeed common functions for a cellular phone in 1990, leading the people to regard Albert Chandler with puzzled expressions.

Upon witnessing this, Albert Chandler maintained a patient smile and advised, "Simply keep pressing the down button, and you'll be able to scroll through the menu options..."

In response to Albert Chandler's guidance, Matthias and the others followed suit, continuously pressing the down button.

Indeed, more options emerged, including 'Contact,' 'Calendar,' and the intriguing 'Games.'

Noticing that those trying the KRS 1 phone were following his instructions, Albert Chandler enthusiastically shared, "Our phone includes a 'Calendar' and, most importantly, 'Games.'"

The revelation that the phone had games astonished the people testing it and those nearby. They were taken aback by this unexpected feature.

Matthew, still in disbelief, was the first to inquire as he gazed at Albert Chandler, "This phone can play games!?"

Others also turned their attention to Albert Chandler, seeking confirmation.

Albert Chandler confidently nodded and affirmed, "Absolutely! If you'd like to explore further, select the 'Games' option, and you can pick from the list of games pre-installed on our phone!"

Matthew, genuinely astonished, was one of those testing the KSR 1 phone. However, Lily, standing next to Matthew, quickly took the KSR 1 phone from him.

Seeing Matthew's confusion, Lily reassured him, saying, "Darling, let me give it a try." She then chose the 'Games' option, following the lead of others who were exploring the KSR 1 phone.

While Matthew watched, feeling somewhat helpless, Lily proceeded to select the 'Snake' game from the list.

The screen displayed options such as 'New Game,' 'Level,' and 'Game Type,' with 'Select' in the bottom left corner and 'Back' in the bottom right.

Lily adeptly selected 'New Game,' showcasing her video game experience.

The game began with a small snake on the screen enclosed within a box border, and there was a dot inside the same box border.

Observing the gameplay, Matthew exclaimed, "Darling, maybe you'll eat that dot, similar to the video game 'Pacman'?"

Lily nodded, replying, "Of course, I know that!" The others were also amused by playing on the KSR 1 Phone.

While it couldn't compare to the console video games of the present, the experience of playing on a phone was still novel and enjoyable.

Before long, a commotion erupted at the Rebolt Technology booth, drawing the attention of various media outlets.
