Chapter 22. Had I know.

Being in need of something isn't bad but being desperate for something at times can lead one into doing something right the wrong way.

All families have that one person that's different in character. Most times they are the quite, harsh, stubborn or gentle one in the family. Amanda is the only person in her family that's bold mean and stubborn. She respects people but don't fear a thing.

Amanda invited her sister home to have a serious discussion with her.

Dianna got to their house, rang the bell and was welcomed by her sister.

Dianna...Sis how far?

Amanda.... Fine sis, sorry I pulled you down here at this time, just that I was looking for an opportunity to share this with you in the absence of mum.

Dianna.....Hope all is well?

And where's mum?

Amanda.......She went to congratulate her friend that the daughter was married yesterday. You remember mummy Chinyere nah?

That her 3rd daughter got married yesterday.

Dianna......Oh yah, wow!

So happy for her. She's finally off the single hood. Someone's son will marry us one day. Hahahahahahah, hey you don't sound happy! what's the matter?

Amanda........ Sis, I just don't know how to say this, just as she was about to say another word she threw up and ran to the restroom.

She came back and continued with their discussion. Sis, I'm pregnant.

Dianna.....You are what?

Amanda...Yes I am.

I called you here so you can help me on how to tell mum. She doesn't know yet because I have been hiding in my room whenever she's around but I'm tired of all of that. My man said I should tell her and hear what she has to say.

Dianna.... Sis, after all my warnings to you, you still did this?

How could you have done this sis?

Amanda..... Because this is the only way mum will let me marry the love of my life.

They were still talking when their mum got back and rang the bell. Dianna became afraid over her last action towards her mum, she ran into her sister's room. Her sister pleaded with her to go open the door for their mum because she too doesn't want their mum to see her or notice a thing about the pregnancy yet.

Dianna summoned courage, went and opened the door.

Her mum...... Already shouting outside....what's taking this girl so long to just open a door? she's beginning to irritate me this days. Is either she's sleeping or indoors as usual.

Focussing on Dianna she says...Look who we have here, the almighty Dianna. So after pushing me out of your house you have the effrontery to come here abi?

You humiliated your mum in front of a total stranger.

Dianna.....Mum I'm truly sorry for my action. Please forgive me.

Her mum......Keep your sorry and sweet talks to yourself. Before I close my eyes and open it you are out of my house.

Dianna......Mum I said I'm sorry. Can you just listen to me once?

I didn't mean for all of that to happen but your reaction over seeing Phillip in my house pushed me to.

Just as they were talking Amanda came out and decided to make the announcement herself.

Amanda...... Welcome mum, Ummmm I was the one who called her to come and there was a serious reason why I called her but now I have decided to tell you the latest development myself.

Her mum....... Wait, why is your face so swelled up and your nose bigger than usual?

And which development are you talking about?

Amanda........Mum I'm pregnant. I'm already a month and 2weeks gone.

Her mum....... You're preg what?

She rushed her to beat her up, you know Nigerian mothers nah lol, but Dianna held her hands.

Dianna.......Mum please calm down and let's follow this up the right way. Beating her will not change the fact that she's pregnant. It's not even good to do that in her condition.

Her mum.......Which condition?

Doctor Dianna I'm asking you. Hey ndi irom ga achim ochiooooooo. ( my enemies will laugh at me). With all the training I suffer to give you girls this is what I get in return, shame?

Why would you get pregnant for a man that hasn't paid your bride price?

Amanda.......Ah ha, you asked the right question now and I have the answer. That's because you refused to let me marry my dream man. Mum this marriage is happening, with or without you. Have hidden your hate for them for long but just opened up to him the day I found out I'm pregnant. So now you either accept them or be ready not to see me again. She went in, pack her things and was about to leave with anger when Dianna tried stopping her but her mind was made up.

Her mum.....Where do you think you are going?

If you leave this house don't ever come back here.

Amanda.....Just know that you've lost a daughter. She left and her sister Dianna followed her.

Their mum.....With all my sacrifices yet this children are bent on rubbing shame on my face. Pointing at Amanda, let me tell you, it's even better you leave because no child of mine will give birth outside wedlock and no child of mine will marry from another tribe.

Dianna......Sis, wait. Please let me drop you off at least.

Amanda.......No sis, I can manage. I will just call Abiola to come pick me from the junction. Thanks for your help sis.

Dianna... Is that his name?

Amanda.......Yes.

Dianna...... Good luck sis. Just send me the address, I will come check you from time to time ok.

Amanda........Sure.

Dianna went back to their house to talk some sense into their mum but found her mum on the floor just at the front of their house. She ran to her and luckily she's still breathing but can't move nor stand. Dianna rushed her to a nearby hospital with her car. Did I mention that Phillip bought her a car? Yes he did but Dianna being the simple girl she is just didn't like riding it.

Dianna...... Doctor, Nurse...... somebody help please. Nurses came and carried her mum, gave her treatment immediately and she was placed on bed rest. Dianna couldn't go home again that night leaving her mum with nobody. Even the next morning she couldn't make it to work. Phillip became worried because she didn't tell him that she won't be early to work the next day so he decided to call her and know her way about.

Phillip.......Hello love

Dianna...Hello Phill, good morning sir.

Phillip.......Good morning love, you sound so weak. Are you just waking up?

Dianna.....Ummmm not really. I'm sorry for not being at the office by now. I was cut up with something.

Phillip......With what?

Baby are you ok?

Where are you?

What's going on?

Dianna... I'm at the hospital with my mum.

Phillip.......What's wrong?

Dianna........I'm ok, it's my mum that's not fine. She slumped last night and couldn't move. The doctor said she have high blood pressure and shouldn't engage in painful and scary activities, sadly one of those took place last night and that resulted to where we are now.

Phillip........Oh my goodness. Which hospital are you?

Dianna.......Don't worry I will soon be back. Once her drip finishes and we are discharged.

Phillip......I love you more baby. Please let me know when you get back. Take 2 days off so you can refresh before coming to work. My regards to your mum love

Dianna kept checking her mum's drip to know if it's dripping well. She picked her phone and called her sister to explain what happened last night to her.

Dianna........Hello

Amanda......Hello sis

Dianna........Hope you arrived safe?

Amanda........Yah, he came right immediately.

Dianna......That last night I came back to the house to carry my car and to also talk to mum just to find her on the floor. She almost died sis.

Amanda..... Are you serious?

Oh if I had known I wouldn't have spoken to her in that manner.

Dianna.... Yah, we are still at the hospital as we speak. Though she's responding to treatment.

Amanda...... Thank God she is. I wouldn't have been able to forgive my self if anything had happened to her.

Dianna.......Awwwwwwn, don't worry nothing will happen to her ok. Greet your man for me.
