chapter three: You're the kid elder sister?

He was stupefied he will stop living in a year time he confronted Jennie who later confessed.

"If I die, will you forget about me?.

Will you move on? Jennie you promised to accompany me to wherever I'm scared of..."

He blinked, his small hand held Jennies, his reddened eyes looked at Jennie pleadingly.

"I'm scared of death Jennie... But can you please not accompany me to death"

"....."

Jennie sighed exasperatedly before forcing a smile, "You have to worry-free, I can't watch you die, I really can't bare you dying"

She glanced at the wall clock and mouthed "See let's get you ready for school but you have to promise Jennie you will keep away from troubles. Alright?"

He nodded in affirmation repeatedly.

A day is coming she won't be able to see him, hold his hands.. The aching pain of waiting for death is painful and scary than death itself, wanted to save but it's beyond capability, having not what it takes. but that day she won't let it come.

After taking Brian to school, she came back home, boil some waters and make instant noodles. After eating, she checked her recent application but none were replied to.

After two hours of painting, she dipped the paintbrush inside the blue can, she watched the so called masterpiece, even if this was this last thing he left her, what a beautiful mess!

Jennie cellphone rang, the ringing sound echoing in the almost empty room, she lazily glanced at it before Leaning her hand towards the towel after Wiping her hands, she picked up the phone and slide to accept but panicked voice replied from the other side.

"Miss Anderson?"

"Yes" she replied slightly confused. She threw the towel few meters away.

"I'm calling from Haliday elementary, Brian Anderson slumped in the classroom and lost consciousness, we took him to the infirmary, but he has been transferred to the hospital. I'm currently calling from the hospital because your attention is needed"

"Brian? Slumped! What... Ok.. what's the hospital name? " she replied, her heart nearly escaped her chest due to nervousness.

"ADR hospital" She didn't wait a minute before throwing the phone to where she couldn't make out.

She couldn't think straight, she wore her sandals and Rushed out of the apartment.. she flagged down a taxi and entered without hesitation "ADR hospital" she said.

She was sweating profusely, her chest pounding, eyes brimming with unshed tears..

Arriving at the hospital, with shaking hands she paid the taxi murmuring to herself.. 'don't you dare leave me'

The driver who was paid by a woman who looked almost insane, shook his head and left... She rushed towards the receptionist, without greeting she stammered .. "Brian Anderson"

The receptionist who seemed to understand looked into the register before directing her to the emergency ward (ER)

On getting to the ward she saw few of his teachers, certain that here is indeed where she was directed, She barged into the room.. The pale figure on the bed broke her heart apart, his breathing was shallow, his lips had turned pale. Tubes were attached to his hand, they were IVs.

Jennie walked towards him, she was fidgeting, no matter how much she tried convincing herself, this occurrence had been thought over but she hadn't expected it this sooner. she took his hands and kissed his face,

A nurse who looked older rushed in holding a tray, she was to checked the current situation in the ward, but seeing everything under control with blank expression she said to the lady whom she assumed to be a relative of the little boy "The patient is asleep" The nurse who seemed to be unwilling to deal with Jennie continues "I will advice you go see the doctor"

"In that case, can I go and see the doctor now" Jennie asked anxiously.

The nurse simply nodded.

Jennie nodded as if being compelled and followed suit, trailing after the nurse.

The door to the doctors office was pushed open, the middle aged but good looking man who averted his gaze from a certain document and fixedly look at the young lady who just came in, the office was no different from normal doctor's office.

The middle aged man with two pair of glasses gazed at her expressionlessly. Even if deep down he was somber and remorseful, he dared not showed it up due to the etiquette of his work.

He adjusted his glasses before saying. "Take a seat young Miss"

She sat facing the doctor with slightly clattering teeths.

"You're the kid elder sister? How could you let it gets to this state, anyway. His health condition has worsened he needed an emergency surgery, I'm afraid he will be in peril if we failed to execute an immediate surgery before a week. Infact our hospital can't perform such surgery due to our limited equipment but he'll be transferred to an advanced hospital specialized on cancer surgery"

She was baffled "sur....surgery?" She stammered.

"Yes miss, we'll be needing two million yuan for the surgery"..

"Two millions?" She exclaimed, despite guessing this part already, she still screamed hearing it.

He simply explained "But he has less than a week left if the money is refused to be provided and even if you're able to provide the money, it couldn't be helped anymore so you have to within the short period of time so we can proceeded with the transfer"

Jennie was dumbfounded, she couldn't speak,

"Also..." He glanced at the vibrating phone on the table "If you may excuse me miss," the doctor said politely picking up his call. He gesture to her that she can go

Dispirited. She walked out of the office.

Seeing her brother who looked almost lifeless, her heart squeezed. She wiped her tears and sat beside him.

"Brian. Please don't you dare die on me, if you did I have no choice left than to accompany you.

You want to be a lifesaver remember? If you die how are you saving lives.

Hang in there baby, Jennie is going to find the money, trust me I definitely will."

She expected a response but she got none she stood up wiped her stained cheeks and head back home.

On getting home, she sighed with frustration murmuring to herself, she looked almost insane, her bed nest like hair and reddened eyes, 'Brian isn't gonna die! Is he? But she gave him her words'

She just realized how of an incapable sister she was. This little brother she loved so much, if only she could exchanged places with him, she would rather die than seeing him death.

She turned on the old computer but her application hasn't been replied to, devastated she typed some words online, if she was to tried loan but according to her bank, She can't loaned more than 100, 000 Yuan.

Thus, she started typing, but after reading the desperate words she typed she deleted it. Out of frustration she powered off the computer.

Desperately, or determined.. she went to buy lottery tickets, after buying it she went back to the hospital.

Brian still remained in the same state, she later went back home.

Five days later, she had trashed the lottery tickets she bought, she lost miserably, Brian has only two days left.

She rummaged through her wardrobe, after putting on a simple dress, she looked at her swollen face in the mirror before going to the hospital.

She went directly to the doctors office to plead with him but on getting there the middle aged man welcomed her with a face full of smiles.

Sitting down while wondering why the man was very happy, probably, mocking her predicament... What sort of assumption is that, as if she reads minds?

"Miss??"

"Jennie" she replied.

"Miss Jennie, Why are you this slow witted, he only had few days left if you failed to provide the money to carried out the surgery, this is a life threatening situation I'm afraid we might lose him"

What to be said, this man works here after all, she could only swallowed the bitter lump in her throat, her eyes welling unnoticeably, she blinked to get rid of the tears but it just wouldn't stop.

The man who grieved the lady's situation said truthfully "There's nothing i can do, this is a private hospital not mine as you see. If I could help, I would've long done it"

"I'll find the money, please save Brian" she cried.
