Part 10.

It had been an interesting week after the Mags incident, Kyle and Shaun were at odds with each other even though they haven't spoke since that night, Shaun was adamant about not speaking to him, he barely left his room just so he didn't have to see him.

Kyle was worried his book he had stolen would be discovered, he had a feeling the rest of the family would be unhappy at him for bringing it home. But after the restless nights reading it on the toilet seat was worth the risk, he was only 4 pages in and he had already learnt were magic comes from and how it technically works.

"Transylvania...where was that again?"

Adrian had recently took the liberty of going to a nearby library in town, getting him whatever books he wanted, on his most recent trip, he picked up a geography book, which had an entire map of the world on it, showing where everything was located. dragging his fingers over to Romania, where he saw it on the map.

"There"

He then traced the distance as the crow flies from there to the UK, working out:

"Jesus that's just under 2000 miles away, how did they get here?" he whispered to himself, holding a torch at the pages in the dim bathroom.

He turned back to the magic book and reads it again.

The last few word were scribbled out, or the page was just that old the writing was incoherent.

"Resting place of who?"

he flips to the next page with an image of a drawn hand, in the motion of clicking his fingers, a small flame at the tip of his thumb, Kyle was immediately interested in the fact he might be able to do magic...or even better, learn magic. He noticed under the diagram that there was a small amount of writing, detailing how to summon the flame.

Kyle had already prepared his right hand in the clicking motion, and imagining a candle flowing in his mind, he thought about keeping it alive by covering it with his hands, cupping it in his hands.

"Lucerna~"

He clicks his fingers...

And nothing happens.

"Ugh I thought that would work..."

He slumps a little, sliding in a free bookmark he had been giving by the happy librarian, sliding it under the bathroom sink and away from sight.

Leaving the bathroom, he slowly tries to close it behind him, trying not to alert the whole house, turning his back to the landing behind him, not noticing Zayne was standing right behind him.

"Hey Kyle~"

"Oh my god!" Kyle freaks, frantically turning around and holding the door knob behind his back.

"Whatcha doing~" he asks with a mischievous smirk.

"Nothing! nothing i was just, using the toilet"

"Uh huh, well you do know my hearing is better than a humans and I would've heard the toilet flushing from downstairs, right?~"

Kyle was blundering around in his head, tumbling under excuses.

"In fact, me and the rest of the pack heard pages being turned in there~" he said, leaning against the wall, his smirk splitting to show his lovely straight teeth, Kyle was beginning to sweat, they knew, they were going to take it away if they found out.

And then Zayne took two small sniffs around the air, and then he squints at Kyle.

"Are you reading porno mags in there?~"

"Excuse me?! No of course I-"

Then Kyle stopped, realizing this would probably throw him off the scent, literally.

Reluctantly, he blushes and nods shyly. Zayne gasped and the smile only grew louder, a sort of understanding in his eyes as if he was deeply touched Kyle would admit that to him.

"Wow...follow me" he says, asking for Kyle's hand as He takes it with a questioning glare.

"Whaaat are you doing?" he asks as Zayne shushes him lightly, nodding silently and inviting him into his room. Kyle awkwardly walks in and Zayne shuts the door and locks it, Kyle was getting slightly nervous.

"Ok, so what exactly-"

"Hang on, I'm building up too it~" he says reassuringly.

sitting Kyle on his bed and standing on top of it himself, reaching for the ceiling and growing one of his nails into a long claw, cutting through the thin string holding the panel up, Kyle was amazed he never noticed it as he pulls out a small-ish box, closing the ceiling back up and dropping to sit on the edge of the bed.

"This" Zayne said, opening the box to reveal a plethora of different sexy mags all in a stack in the box "Is my collection~" He said, showing him with a proud look in his eyes. Kyle was grossed out at first but as he looked at expression on his stubbled face, he could see this meant much more to him than the stupid porno's.

"This one was the first ones I ever got, I stole it from my Uncle Garland back home, 1984, and the writing in it is awful but there's some nice ones in there" He said, slowly flipping the pages and discovering a big breasted woman posing in revealing lumberjack clothes. Kyle lifted a brow at his taste levels, receiving nothing but a shrug from Zayne.

Kyle goes to pick another to investigate this interesting side to Zayne, only to have it immediately snatched from his hands.

"Not that one!"

Kyle was surprised at the sudden blush spreading across his cheeks, hiding it under his bed.

"Sorry...best I dont gross you out too much before-"

"Before what?" Kyle asked, staring into Zaynes gorgeous eyes.

"I actually wanted to talk about last week...when we were rudely interrupted..." Zaynes hand reaches over to Kyle who remembers vividly the scene where Zayne surged down into Kyle's lips, their hot make out session sadly interrupted and the two hadn't spoken about it since.

"Oh...right"

It didn't take long for Zayne to lean in and kiss him lightly, his hand still wrapped in Kyle's fingers as Kyle, happily lifts his hand and places it on his cheek, feeling a surge of euphoria run through his entire body. He's never felt this way about anyone before.

But the knock on his door made the two separate quickly as Shaun walks in nonchalantly, stopping when he notices Zayne sat on the bed, pulling a reserved face and clearing his throat.

"Sorry for interrupting you two"

Then he turns back around and leaves the room, a slight slam to the door.

Kyle sighs and runs his hands through his hair, flopping backwards onto the bed with a saddened sigh. Zayne slowly flops down with him, his black hair flopping to spread above his bed.

"Sorry about that"

"No, its my fault...I should've tried talking to him sooner anyways"

"He did seem distant at breakfast this morning...want me to try talking to him?"

"Definitely not he'd tear you apart" Kyle chuckles, looking back at Zayne.

"I'll be back in ten minutes...don't go anywhere now~"

"I wouldn't dream of it~"

The two kiss briefly again before Kyle gets up and goes to follow his brother. Not finding him upstairs he goes to look downstairs but is stopped halfway down the stairs, her hand clutching with a medium amount of pressure on his shoulder.

"What's going on with Shaun and why are you spending more time with my brother than you are with him?" She asked, a serious look in her eyes, and Kyle knew better than to lie to Alyssa, she had this super odd power to completely see through lies, even the best crafted ones.

"He's mad at me because I care so much about mum...and I think he's scared im going to forget about him while looking into it"

She lets go and folds her arms inwards.

"Its one thing to dig into the past, but neglecting the present denies you a future...if you dont understand it from his point of view then he'll resent you for it...trust me" her brows furrow " I know"

"Thank you Alyssa, I-"

"Dont thank me, I hate that" she says holding up her arm and stomping up the stairs.

"Did you see where he went by the way?"

"I saw him head outside, i think he had a book in his hands"

Kyle's heart dropped as he rushes down the stairs, past Cara and Adrian who were dancing in the kitchen to the old radio and outside the back door where Shaun sat in the grass, his head pointed to his lap.

"Shaun, can we-"

Shaun cut him off, holding the book in his hand so Kyle could see the cover.

"so...M.B.Wellington huh?"

"Shaun I can explain"

"Explain what? the obvious? you're clearly messing with something you have no idea how it works!"

"Shaun I'm not trying anything yet im just reading it, it had too have been written by one of our parents and it explains everything about where magic came from, what its really for"

"Oh really? enlighten me" He said, crossing his arms with the book still in his hand.

"It was a ritual, back a thousand years ago when the stars aligned, its what forced the earth to drain its power...transferring it to people who can do it better than Gaia"

"Gaia?"

"Earth Shaun, Gaia is the goddess of Earth, and she gave the witches those powers to save all of her creations and life, but along the way humans were killing them, driving them from their homes!"

"SO?"

"WHAT DO YOU THINK HAPPENED TO THE PACK?!"

Shaun begins shaking his head.

"Read it Shaun"

"No"

"Just read the first page, its all on there" Kyle pleads with his little brother to just look at it. and just as rain begins to fall, to protect the book, they both run to the porch with Shaun reading the first few paragraphs, coming across the part where it mentioned Transylvania.

"Thatssss?"

"Romania? yeah I know, Adrian's accent is kind of hard to miss"

"But this was thousands of years ago you said, you mean to tell me their great great great great grandparents, possibly even greater than most, travelled just under 2000 miles to England because some weird ass green lady tells them she's got a safe pocket in the world?" Shaun was looking at Shaun with a disbelieved stare.

"It sounds far fetched but after everything you've seen in two weeks its plausible"

"I suppose...but why are you so obsessed, its not like mum is gonna appear out of thin air with a smile and a hug"

"That isn't the point...this book is the closest I've ever felt to her, regardless of whether she's here or not i just...please, can i just have this"

Shaun was unsure about it as Kyle begs him.

"I'm not going to stop loving you Kyle...you're much to stubborn for that" He jokes, getting a small smile from him, sniffling his nose as he slowly passes back.

"Have you actually managed to cast anything in there?" He curiously asked, his reservations about magic fading as he watches Kyle flip to the candlelight spell, showing him.

"This spell is the first one, and I never got the hang of it...the description isn't that helpfu-" Kyle was mid sentence when he stops, rereading the sentence that stood out to him.

𝔦𝔫 𝔬𝔯𝔡𝔢𝔯 𝔱𝔬 𝔠𝔬𝔫𝔧𝔲𝔯𝔢 𝔦𝔱 𝔶𝔬𝔲 𝔪𝔲𝔰𝔱 𝔣𝔢𝔢𝔩 𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔥𝔬𝔭𝔢 𝔦𝔱 𝔱𝔞𝔨𝔢𝔰 𝔱𝔬 𝔨𝔢𝔢𝔭 𝔦𝔱 𝔞𝔩𝔦𝔳𝔢, 𝔦𝔫 𝔞𝔫𝔶 𝔠𝔬𝔫𝔡𝔦𝔱𝔦𝔬𝔫 𝔞 𝔠𝔞𝔫𝔡𝔩𝔢 𝔦𝔰 𝔭𝔯𝔬𝔫𝔢 𝔱𝔬 𝔡𝔶𝔦𝔫𝔤 𝔬𝔲𝔱

"That's it!"

"What's it?" Shaun asked as Kyle sat on the ground, Shaun slowly follows him as the sky begins to rumble with thunder.

"The spell, I thought all I had to do was imagine a candle...but i have to imagine myself as the candle instead, i need to hope to stay alight!"

The wind was kicking up as Kyle puts his fingers together and closes his eyes, snapping his fingers and whispering the incantation.

"Lucerna!"

He didn't feel anything but Shaun had gasped lightly, making Kyle open his eyes.

"Holy shit Kyle..."

"I cant believe it..."

Sitting on his thumb, was a small flickering flame, it didn't burn and glowed brighter than any candle he'd ever seen. It was like a lighter was implanted in his thumb.

"You can do magic!" Shaun got up, shocked yet excited for Kyle, who was still stunned looking at his thumb that sprouted with the weirdest sensation though his hand, like they were lighter and more free, like something that was once blocked was now flowing freely.

"I can do...magic..." Kyle was so overwhelmed with shock, he could feel himself passing out, luckily his brother caught him before his head hit the floor, the minute his eyes shut, the flame disappears.

"Kyle, are you ok?" Zayne had gotten impatient and came outside to check on the two, shocked to see Kyle passed out on the floor, Shaun cradling him, and the book in his lap.

"What is that?!" Zayne asked, panicked by Kyle's position.

"Its ok, he's ok he's just a little...too excited" Shaun's eyes were still rocked and heavy from the sight, his brother, the boy he's known his entire life, made a flame out of nowhere.

"But the boo-"

"Its mine! I wanted to show Kyle and we were having fun reading an old story we liked, and he got sleepy" Shaun said, not quite as confident as he had hoped. Zayne crouched down and Shaun accepted the help as He and Zayne carry him back inside out of the cold, the book being left on the porch while the rain poured heavily outside.

Zayne was suspicious but followed Shaun back to the room, Still questioning himself as he laid Kyle down, Shaun was taking the time to go downstairs and try to pick the book back off the porch, but by the time he reached the outside.

The book was nowhere to be seen.

*

After awhile, Kyle wakes up confused, hoping to god he wasn't dreaming what happened as he holds his finger high above the covers, placing his thumb shakily on his middle finger, snapping loudly.

"Lucerna~"

And just like before, the feeling he had unlocked the skill as a flame slightly bigger than before sprouts from his thumb, letting his finger disconnect, like the circuit was broken and the spell dissipates again.

"Lucerna, Lucerna, Lucerna!" He kept saying it as he kills and relights it, amazed he could even do magic, he thought he'd have to read that whole book and learn nothing practical from it.

"This is amazing, I need to show them all~" Kyle's excitement, jumping from the bed and rushing to the door, to find that it was locked, and not from the inside. And then he felt a stinging pain reach his head as he got slightly dizzy, leaning along the door for support.

"Guys? why am I locked in?" he groans, slowly sliding down to the floor as he rubs his temples, the pounding in his head warning him not to do the spell again.

"Owwww GUYS! where are you?"

"Kyle? dont panic its just me" Alyssa said from the other side of the door.

"Why is the door locked"

"Cara said we needed to ground you for stealing that book, so you're on room arrest for the rest of the night" she said, a small thump from the other side as she leans against the door.

"What?! why?!"

"Kyle that book was dangerous for you and for us, its better now the books gone missing"

Kyle's eyes were widened at that, what if he didn't find out where this dizziness was coming from, slowly realizing that Shaun must've told them about it.

"Do you even know what was in it?"

"It doesn't matter, somehow, that book would've come to bite you in the ass if you continued"

"How do you know?"

Alyssa didn't answer.

"Exactly, please Alyssa, this is so much more important that we thought"

"I'm sorry Kyle, I cant disobey my Alpha"

Kyle sighs and goes to lie back on the bed, closing his eyes to wave off the dizziness that was beginning to make him feel sick.

"There's some food and a glass of water in there too, in-case you were hungry" Alyssa said, making Kyle's stomach cry out for her, as if thanking her.

"Thanks Ali"

"Do.Not.Call Me.That!" she said sternly through the door. Kyle had seen the plate with a sandwich with some home-made cookies that Cara had made lovingly for him, placed delicately on the bedside table, waiting eagerly for him as he scoffed the whole lot and immediately he began to feel better, the water really helped too.

The dizziness was disappearing, and after about 5 minutes of letting it rest, he felt back to normal.

"Need to get out of here" Kyle thought to himself as he looks to the window, noticing the drop was too terrible, but then again they'd hear and stop him at the slightest sound.

If he wanted out, he was going to have to get creative.
