Aurora was so excited for his help that she released the entire carton of her new product to him, only reserving three bottles that she would give to Abigail.
"I will get more bottles if you have the need, plus the invitation cards to the launch party," she said to Xander.
Over a bottle of wine, Aurora and Xander had light-hearted conversations before the latter mentioned the bouquet case.
"So, did you find out the person who sent it?" he asked as a sharp glint flashed across his eyes.
Aurora shook her head. "I think it's a dumbass trick though. Anyway, there is nothing to worry about. I already threw the flowers out." Immediately, an idea struck her and her gaze turned serious.
"Today, my sister broke into my office while I was away. And although she didn't do anything serious apart from going through my wastebin, I don't doubt that she wouldn't come back next time to steal important information. So, I need to get a new door with a lock for my office."
Xander narrowed his eyes, his fingers slowly tapping the armrest. "I will get someone to take care of that. Also, I will recommend putting little cameras in your office, because you can never be too careful."
Aurora's brows furrowed in confusion. She was really lost. Xander noticed that and explained further on the cameras.
"My company produces mini spy cameras you can magnet to a flower vase, clock and literally on any surface of your choice. Your sister is shrewd and you can never tell she wouldn't send someone close to you to steal information next time. You have to prepare against that."
Aurora quickly accepted his recommendation and inquired, "Can you set everything up this weekend?" She didn't even want anyone at work to know about the cameras.
"Of course, I can. You only need to inform the security at your company to grant access to the people who will be coming in to do the job," Xander replied.
Soon, they got ready to have an early dinner. And just as they sat around the table, Aurora received a call from her father.
"Good evening, Dad," Aurora greeted enthusiastically thinking he had called to share his review on the champagne she gave to him in the morning.
"Are you still up?" Adam inquired.
Aurora's brows lightly furrowed. "Yes. Is there a problem?"
"Your sister, your stepmother and I are right outside your building. We came to have dinner with you and share the bottle of wine you gave to me in the office today. Inform the security so he can let in," Adam informed.
"W-What?" Aurora stuttered. Her heart literally flew into her stomach as his words reached her ears.
Xander's brows knotted having overheard Adam's statement.
From the background, Aurora heard Olivia's voice. "Dad, I told you that sister might not be home today as she hasn't been back in a few days." At that moment, colour drained from her face, knowing the people behind the 'surprise' visit.
But how on earth does Olivia know she hadn't been to her apartment in days? Perhaps, she had someone watching her?
Aurora pieced two and two together and was able to find out what happened. But she was stuck with not knowing what to do.
While she was thinking of lying that she had been at Abigail's place, Xander suddenly whispered to her, putting his ten fingers in front of her face, "Bathroom. Ten minutes."
"What?" Aurora mouthed. She almost thought Xander had lost his mind. How did he think she would be able to get to her apartment within a ten-minute drive? And even if that was possible, her father would confirm that she hadn't been home. Then what difference would it make if she had straightforwardly told him she wasn't in?
"Do what I said," Xander insisted, watching her closely.
Aurora released a deep breath. "Dad, I'm in the bathroom. Inform the security that I will pick you up in ten minutes," she said into the phone. But as soon as she dropped the call, she fixed a tense gaze on Xander.
"Clearly, my sister and stepmother have someone watching me, and they set me up today. And even if I did make my way home in time, they would surely look through every corner of my apartment to prove that I might not be living there. Now, tell me, what's your plan?"
"You will see." Xander took her hand and squeezed it gently. "Remember, you told your father that you are in the bathroom. Quickly throw on a nightgown. I will escort you to the rooftop after that."
Lines appeared on Aurora's forehead as she stood up. "What are you planning?"
"Sweetheart, I don't think you have the time to ask questions. Quickly go," Xander said to her.
As soon as Aurora left, Xander asked Liam to get the chopper ready before calling his domestic secretary. "See to it that there is no doubt," he instructed.
The woman bowed and quickly left to organize a few things.
Three minutes later, Xander took Aurora to the rooftop.
Aurora was stunned at the sight before her. The helicopter was ready with its blades running, and a few maids were loading some items inside it.
"Go on, I will get permission to land at your apartment building," Xander shouted at the top of his voice so she could hear him amidst the noise from the chopper.
Aurora stared at him, not knowing what to say. She was not expecting this grand plan from him. How could she not get to her apartment right on time?
---
Three minutes later, the helicopter landed on Aurora's apartment rooftop.
Aurora got out with the domestic secretary and two maids and quickly rushed to her apartment door. As soon as she unlocked it, the secretary said to her, "Mrs. Scott, go ahead. We will take care of the rest."
Aurora got into the elevator, trying to calm her nerves before arriving at the ground floor where her Dad and the two troublemakers he came with were waiting.
Meanwhile, Xander called Liam into his study.
"Grab those spies around my wife and bring them to the dungeon. And if any new ones show up around her, directly get rid of them," he instructed through gritted teeth.
