Training as a Slime (17)

The high elf immediately got into work mode the moment she woke up, "The pandemic... we have to develop a cure!" Ignoring and unfazed by the pervert-looking elf clad in only a lab coat, she scrambled over the place checking whether the machines and apparatus were working. "Updates!" she commanded. Like a well trained assistant, the elf followed her around and updated her on the situation. "You! Hand over the solution and the dagger!" she commanded while grabbing onto the slime. "Boss, the company took the virus sample," reported the elf. Unbeknownst to both of them, their virtual world had already fallen into madness.

Before Cori could hand the dagger and potion to them, the system prompted, "Are you sure you want to hand the potion and dagger over?" "Yes," Cori confirmed.

Without any samples, they were not able to test the vaccines they had developed. The only method of approach was to use it directly on patient 0 - Alice. The high elf injected herself with the vaccine without an ounce of hesitation as a precaution lest she got re-infected. "You guys wait here, I will assist Alice with the vaccination. In case it fails, you have to take over to develop the cure," the high elf looked at Cori, trusting him.

"Squee?" Cori was dumbfounded to be given such a burdensome role after meeting her for the first time. He could sense the depression dawning on her assistant of several years.

"You have to give your utmost in assisting him A1." "Yes Boss!" cried the elf in appreciation. This was the first time in several decades that his boss remembered his employee ID. "Bro are you okay bro?" squeaked Cori with concern though the words ended up in squeaky utterance.

"He will be your master if anything happened to me, you understand?" the high elf commanded. "Master? What is with their dynamics?" Cori wondered feeling all sorts of weird.

Luckily the plan proceeded smoothly and Alice was rescued with the aid of the potion/vaccine. Cori felt cheated, the game proceeded way too smoothly and he did not even kill any zombies. In fact, he saved them. What kind of weird arcade game is this?

With Alice now reverted back to an AI and the system announcing her no longer harbouring any threat to the real world. It seemed to Cori that the vaccination was successful.

Everyone in the room felt relieved as Alice and the high elf climbed out of the elevator without the shroud of miasma. High elf, "Alice, you have to rescue the world with Cori. Pup and I will have to stay behind to continue developing the vaccine."

Alice, "Save the world with Cori?" Alice looked at the slime, and the slime looked back..."so the system patched and now all of a sudden they knew my name..."

High elf, "You have to salvage what you started."

Cori was speechless, the level of gaslighting... Alice nodded. The elf cried... pup was not his name.

System, "Insert coin to continue."

"What? This is not how it is supposed to work!" Cori fumed, turning his cheeks into a shade of orange. Alice looked at the cute slime and intuitively pinched his cheeks. The system began counting down but the slime was helpless without any coins.

System, "Game over!" The room drenched into a sea of blood and dissipated into norm.

"Eh... this is no fun at all..." Cori complained and left the games room wondering if the world he was in was capitalistic like the system.
