Chapter 28: Conference.

The day progressed as usual, with both Ling Yue and Li Wei busy with their work. However, Ling Yue was unaware that she had a beautiful smile plastered on her face all day. The reason for her radiant smile was a text message from Li Wei reminding her to eat lunch on time and apply ointment to her scraped knee.

Little did Ling Yue know, her infectious smile captured the hearts of everyone around her. Regardless of their gender, they couldn't help but feel a tinge of jealousy towards Li Wei. After all, their typically aloof boss had ordered a pair of roller skates. What made them envious was not just the roller skates themselves, but the fact that they were personally designed by their boss. The design was so incredible that people had been queuing for the past three months, yet their boss refused to sell them. There was only one pair in existence.

Today, Ling Yue finally took out that exclusive pair of roller skates. To everyone's surprise, she had personally engraved Li Wei's name on them. A stranger had received this special privilege when they, who had done nightouts with their boss never enjoyed such benefit.

They all calmed their hearts and consoled each other. The skates were gone. Now they should put that CEO under radar. Who knows what their boss is going to gift him next. For FREE.

"Lin Chao" Su Rui was now on a date with young master Lin after successfully trapping him in her honey trap. Last time she made him aware of her identity as the young miss of Su family. That made him stop his advances the last time and they thought of dating. She feigned an innocent pure look the last time and it worked.

"Rui. Don't be afraid okay. I am here for you. Let my parents visit your family. Alright?" Lin Chao cupped Su Rui's face as he looked straight into her eyes. Su Rui bit her lower lip but didn't answer him.

"I am speaking to you Su Rui. Answer me." Lin Chao gripped her jaw as he questioned her again.

Well, Su Rui told him a little about the project and her father's plans and that was enough for Lin Chao to start scheming in his little head. Lin Chao, being the ever-green good-for-nothing spoiled-brat was always insulted at home by his father. Now that he got a chance to prove himself, he would use it to bag the project.

According to Su Rui, her family was wrong but as a part of that family she would stand by them no matter what. But the sense of injustice weighed heavily on heart and hence she would try persuading her family to let Lin corps bag the deal even if that leads to her getting thrown out of the household. Then she shed few big fat tears. She was ready to sacrifice herself for Lin Chao.

Lin Chao who did nothing but party in his entire life was moved by the sacrificial lamb in front of him and thought of getting engaged to her. Well, not like he was completely innocent. Su corps was a big company and he too knew no good family in the capital would let their daughters marry him. So this innocent, pitiful and beautiful flower was the best option for him.

"Al-Alright. But I am scared.. sniff" Su Rui achieved what she wanted to and Lin Chao was a very easy target for her standards. Two meeting were enough to get the engagement offer. How can she reject that?

"Shhh.. Babe. Don't be afraid. I am here." Lin Chao hugged Su Rui and rubbed her back. He liked playing hero. And Su Rui was the submissive type he liked. He was more than satisfied. Su Rui sneered in her heart. She knew this tactic very well. And it worked again. Soon she would be engaged to the young master of Lin family.

"You played the flute well." Ling Yue and Li Wei were done with the dinner and were now sitting in Ling Yue's living room. Both were doing their work in laptops when Li Wei complemented her out of no where. Ling Yue stopped typing on her keyboard as she looked at him.

"Weren't you asleep? I played it quite late into the night" she though no one heard it. She played it around 2 am in the morning. Even if someone was awake, shouldn't they be sleepy enough to ignore her flute. And Li Wei was all the day. How can he not sleep?

"I had some work to do. I was about to go to bed when I heard you play." Li Wei lied. He himself was still struggling with the mystery encasing that ring. Ling Yue simply nodded before replying.

"Thank you. I wasn't able to sleep. So I played it. Generally it would have been a piano. But I don't have one here." she had one in her villa at Ji Jing. Flute would do for now.

"Insomnia again?" Li Wei was wishing hard for her to say yes. If it was insomnia he would relax, but if was because of that dream, then he didn't know what he would do.

"No. I actually fell asleep at the beginning. Few hours into the night I started feeling restless. I felt like crying when I woke up. Music can always soothe you. So I played it." Ling Yue didn't find any need to conceal these kinds of little things from Li Wei. She continued doing her work but Li Wei stopped working.

He fell into deep pondering again. He can no longer simply ignore the ring. The ring wasn't with them, but they were still not spared. And he can tell what happened to Ling Yue last night. She felt Xenxi's emotions again. Sigh. Were they both fated to meet each other? Was there more to their fated meeting or was this all just a coincidence. No. Li Wei never believed in coincidence.

"CEO Li.. We are honoured to have you here today." the mayor of city M greeted Li Wei as soon as he entered the conference venue. The government too was funding this project and mayor was responsible for this conference. Li Wei didn't really care about this conference but for some reason Ling Yue seemed to care a lot about it. Yesterday Ling Yue told him that she will herself come as representative and he was more than glad to sit beside her now.

After exchanging few pleasantries they soon got seated and Li Wei looked at the seat next to him. Ling Yue was supposed to be here but she didn't arrive yet. Li Wei took out his phone and texted her to ask her whereabouts. He didn't wait long before the message appeared.

Message: 'The first 30 minutes is going to be boring. You will regret attending that conference' - Ling Yue.

Ling Yue really didn't know why Li Wei was attending this tedious conference. She had never bothered attending such conferences before, but today was an exception. She had her reasons, something she wanted to find out.

As Ling Yue predicted, the first 30 minutes were indeed a torture for Li Wei. The mayor droned on and on about the recent developments in the city, his own contributions, how the public were satisfied with the government blah blah blah...

Li Wei had long stopped paying attention to this publicity and was busy texting Ling Yue, giggling and smiling at his phone, while the mayor struggled to catch his attention.

Ling Yue finally arrived after 45 minutes. The mayor and others didn't expect the representative from Z Heights to be a young girl. However, they didn't dare to object, knowing that they were nothing compared to Z Heights.

Li Wei was also taken aback, but for a different reason. Ling Yue was wearing contact lenses, and her usually forest green irises were now black. While her green eyes had always appeared mysterious, her black eyes seemed dangerous.

Many in the room were sweating profusely. Who would have thought that CEO Li would be present? Excitement coursed through their veins.

The first three presentations were utter trash, frustrating Li Wei. Why were they wasting so much time on these meaningless presentations? Was this the standard of such conferences? Half the time, Li Wei and Ling Yue secretly messaged each other about dinner. They quickly grasped the essence of each presentation within the first five minutes and decided not to waste their brain cells on the rest.

The fifth presentation was finally Su Cheng's turn. Li Wei's interest was piqued, and he put aside his phone to listen attentively to this heir of the Su family.

Fifteen minutes into the presentation, Li Wei didn't know whether to laugh or cry. Su Cheng had actually discarded a capable daughter like Ling Yue for this useless son? He recalled what he had read in the investigation report earlier. Su Cheng had once tried to strangle Ling Yue to death. Li Wei clenched his fists and glanced at Ling Yue.

Just like in the previous presentations, Ling Yue maintained her expressionless face, giving no indication of her mood being affected.

"Mr. Su, are you here to promote Su Corps, or is this your debut? I'll give you five minutes. Wrap up your presentation," Ling Yue's commanding voice reverberated in the conference hall. It was the first time she had spoken since arriving. Though she was young, her aura was ardent, and everyone present in the room could feel it, including Li Wei.

Su Cheng, who didn't like being ordered around by a young girl, was about to refute her, but Ling Yue's aura became even more fierce, and her cold eyes silenced him. A chill ran down everyone's spine. Only Li Wei remained unaffected.

He gently patted the back of Ling Yue's hand under the table, and she instantly suppressed her aura, as if it had never been there.

"You have four more minutes. Make it quick," Ling Yue said calmly before reclining back in her chair. Su Cheng gritted his teeth but hurriedly rushed through the remaining minutes of his presentation. Li Wei didn't find Ling Yue to be unreasonable or overbearing. Su Cheng's presentation did seem more like a promotional campaign, and he showed no signs of stopping. They had to go home and cook dinner together. They had other priorities. They were busy.

"Yes" Su Cheng can only nod and proceeded to wrap up his presentation in four minutes. He somehow managed but was clearly aware of the fact that he lost. He gritted his as he sat back on his chair.

The next presenter was Lin Chao, who looked quite pleased after seeing Su Cheng ridiculed by Z Heights.

The last company presenting AtStar was done presenting and the their director was ready to take the questions. AtStar's presentation was the best amongst all the presentation. Li Wei felt like he was selecting best trash from the dump yard.

"CEO Li, Miss Ling, you are welcomed to ask any questions regarding our presentation" the finance director of AtStar, Mr Feng asked Li Wei and Ling Yue after he was done with the presentation.

Li Wei was utterly bored. None of them was good. Now he really regretted coming here. If not for Ling Yue sitting here, he would have long left the hall. He glanced at Ling Yue. For some reason Ling Yue appeared really interested in the last presentation.

"Mr Feng. AtStar's proposal was the best so far." Ling Yue commended AtStar which amused Li Wei. He looked at her. She felt somewhat different right now. Her eye contacts masked her real emotions and Li Wei was left contemplating as to what exactly Ling Yue wanted to achieve from this conference.

"Thank You Miss Ling." Mr Feng smiled broadly but his smile was soon wiped away when Ling Yue spoke again.

"But .. I don't see AtStars sincerity in this proposal. And if I may be straight forward. Your proposal is full of deceit." Ling Yue's tone was calm. But the coldness was unconcealed. Li Wei was busy staring at Ling Yue for half of the presentation that he missed out most of the points. Deceit?
