First mistake?
Tara sat in the room wondering what her line of action will be. She knew Lakan was very smart and would figure her out if she continues to act all-knowing. Besides she was only able to remember a few details and she has been warned not to try changing everything.
She has a strong feeling that the shooting incident must have been connected to a new decision she took hence she was being careful. She was also concerned about who could have hired someone to kill her or Lakan but there was little she could do. She doesn't have her team everything was looking new to her.
She waited patiently in the room for Lakan to come back so she could give him a piece of her mind about changing her clothes. She forgot all about that when she went to the secret study room. Remembering the secret study room sent an idea into her head as she placed her hand on her chin thinking deeply.
In that room, Lakan had warned her about it before, and now he has warned her about it again. That's one sure thing that didn't change. What was in the room that he didn't want her to see? She was surely going there with her first opportunity.
As she was thinking her phone rang and she quickly picked up the call since it was from her mother.
"Hello dear how are you," her mother asked with a lot of concern in her voice.
It would be the first time Tara would be sleeping outside her family's house and in the Blackwaters family house for that matter. Everyone back home has every reason to be worried about her coupled with the incident at the wedding.
"Mother I am fine, I can tell you are very worried about me" Tara replied as she knew her mother very well.
"Yes I am, how is your first day in your husband's house? Hope they are not accusing you of the incident that happened yesterday. She asked.
" No, I am fine here nothing of such is happening " Tara reassured her mother
"What about father, I hope he is taking things well I didn't see him in the hospital. Tara noted. She had tried to call her father but he didn't pick up her calls.
" My dear, I fear something is happening in the family." Her mother replied reducing her voice to almost a whisper.
"What do you mean mother? Tara asked as she also reduced the tone of her voice. She knew her mother was about to say something she was not too sure of.
" I think the attack yesterday was done by someone from our family, that's why your father has been trying to fish out the person before the Blackwaters do hence they might have different ideas" She informed her.
Tara worse fears as just be confirmed by her mother. She feared that her actions must have caused this and now it was looking so. She didn't also notice that her silence was noticeable to her mother.
" You don't seem surprised by that news" Her mother pointed out.
"I also have the same fear but I will....." Before
She could complete her statement she heard a shot knock on the door.
"Mother I will talk to you later, my husband should be here " she informed her mother the word husband sounding weird in her mouth. Immediately after she dropped the phone she reasoned that Lakan would not knock to enter their room. It must be someone else then.
"Who is there? She voiced ou.
" It's me, Sarah, " she heard a female voice say from outside
"Please come inside " Tara permitted her immediately. She has been waiting for this opportunity. She was glad she woke up at that time she might have missed the opportunity of having Sarah.
"Good morning ma, thank you for saving me," Sarah said immediately as she walked in.
Tara felt awkward hearing her call her ma. In the future, they had become so close that Sarah called her by her name when no one was with them. She was just six years older than her.
"That's okay, I did that for the sake of Our friendship " Tara replied without thinking leaving Sarah with a confused look as she tried fo grasp what she just heard.
Tara seeing the look on her face quickly corrected herself.
"I mean the friendship we are about to make, " She said with a smile to cover up her error. Sarah felt a little at ease to hear her speak that way.
"I was informed by the boss that I will be your guard. It is a privilege ma'am and I promise to protect you till my last day on earth " She informed her with her head bowed.
Tara was glad to hear that, she did not doubt that, Sarah had always done the best for her but this time she was not aiming to work with only Sarah.
"You won't just be my guard you will also be the head of my team. I am looking at creating my team of ten " Tara announced taking Sarah by surprise.
"Ma'am I feel you should tell your husband about this so he doesn't get angry with people working around you" Sarah suggested.
"What do you mean? Tara asked
" With the way he sounded when he was assigning me to you and telling me my duties towards you, I have seen that he is very serious about you. If anything happens to you he has promised to kill me. I don't think he would just allow you to make a team without you talking to him about it" Sarah replied her voice losing some confidence.
From the way she spoke Tara could tell that Lakan must have threatened her and he must have succeeded in getting to her head.
Having a team of her own is a new strategy for her, something she didn't have in the future. She didn't know how Lakan would react to this.
"I guess I will have to tell Lakan then" she concluded with a sigh.
"What are you telling me? She heard his voice as he entered the room.
