Top Of The School

As the Hero and I strolled along the vast corridors of the school, making our way to the opening ceremony, his eyes looked at me with great contempt.

This bastard hasn't given up? I thought my little display of superiority would surely put him in his place a little, but no wonder he's that tenacious Hero.

As we arrived before the doors to the hall we both stopped and looked through the thick glass in the door.

"Let's try and get in as quietly as possible, okay?" Leon timidly suggested as he sat crouched by the door.

What is that guy doing?

"As if we can do that. You know that at the start of the game you trip and fall through the door dramatically causing everyone to look at you?"

"Huh? Game? What are you talking about? Actually, what even is your name?" His face turned away from mine as he went back to peeking inside the hall.

"I'm Kaiser. Kaiser Tellum. Son of a poor Baron from the countryside." My eyes lit up as he stood before the door still crouched, his face pressing up against the glass.

"Good to meet you, Leon Rawlder." I finished. His head slowly turned back to face me in surprise but as he did so, he didn't find my gaze staring back into his.

"Erm, why is your foot so close to my face?" He swallowed loudly.

"This? No reason."

"Can you put it down then?" He pleaded.

"You're right, I will." As my lips parted along with my words, I put my foot down as he wished, forcefully pushing him with my sole through the door.

Time seemed to slow down as a look of betrayal donned on his face.

His body fell through the door and with exaggerated expressions, he shouted in pain.

The headmaster at the front of the stage stopped with his arms up and looked to the back of the hall as did every other first year student to witness Leon curled up on the floor with his face flushed red.

"Sorry about that!" I shouted out as I waked in behind him. "My friend has a tendency to slip over. We apologise for being late." I offered my condolences as I bowed elegantly to the headmaster at the front and offered Leon a helping hand with a charming smile.

"You...motherfucker." He whispered to me, tears welled in his eyes.

"Oh, the Hero swears? That's intriguing." An evil cackle twisted onto my face as I hid my features with my hair. I then gently lifted Leon from the ground and brushed him off.

"Please sit down, you two." The headmaster ordered from the front and I gently nudged Leon to walk down to the back row.

Gazes still lingered to me as I slowly followed behind him, and my eyes desperately searched around the hall for familiar faces. And then, diamond blue eyes locked onto me. Silky blonde hair that fell to their side and ruby-red earrings that dangled from their ear.

Our eyes interlocked and a smile was shared between us.

"What are you smiling about?" Leon asked me as I sat down next to him.

"Just saw a familiar face, I suppose."

The opening ceremony continued to drone on for another hour or so as the headmaster imposed words of wisdom, hope and motivation to us students jumping into fresh water and a few upperclassmen on the schools council imparted certain words as well.

The offers of clubs and announcements such as new positions for the council came up and soon the ceremony ended with another speech from the headmaster followed by the applaud of students.

Maybe I'll take up a position on the student council at some point? Probably not in the first year as the first year will require the utmost attention from me to make sure I contain Leon, but maybe in the 2nd year I could. It would certainly improve my image and power in the school.

"Okay, students! We will now be calling down your names to put you in your classes. Each class will consist of 20 students and once you have all been summoned you will be taken by your homeroom teachers." The headmasters character oozed a confidence that naturally settled the whole room.

But that wouldn't last for long. This was the time when every 1st year student hoped to be chosen for the prestigious class A. People would naturally break out in anxious and anticipating whispers.

Being in Class A meant being acknowledged by the school through your admission letter and your recorded physical exam and magic tests you had to take before entering. Class A allowed multiple privileges and graduating from this class would mean that you'd automatically be able to enter in practically any field you'd wish to. You can imagine why its so appealing to any person.

Though, this wouldn't be the last chance to get to Class A. There's a chance to display your skills and improvements at the start of each year. And there would be one soon to confirm the scores you got in the practical exams.

"What class do you reckon you'll be in, Kaiser?" Leon asked me, tugging on my tight fitted blazer.

Is this kid seriously talking to me after I did that to him? He really is too good for his own good. It's that innocence that pisses everyone of and that indecisiveness unless it's something to do with the Goddess.

"Me? Naturally in Class A as the top scoring student of the whole school."

"Seriously?" He asked, a shimmer in his eyes.

"Naturally. You shouldn't be so nervous either, shitty Hero. You are my greatest enemy so of course you'd also be chosen for Class A. Especially with the physical and magical buffs you get as the Hero."

He smiled at me, his cheeks turning rosy.

Ehhhhh? Don't tell me he was actually gay?

"Why are you backing away, Kaiser?"

"Don't piss me off, zesty Hero!"

"Okay, okay settle down everyone! The first person to be announced in Class A will also have to give some words to the year, so good luck to you student." The headmaster then cleared his throat and I already slowly gathered myself of my ass and corrected my hair.

"Please come up, top student of this year and the student with record breaking scores in the physical and magical exams. Kaiser Tellum!"

The room filled with applause and eyes of admiration as the room started to notice my emergence from the very back row.

Originally, the top spot was the Princess of the Empire followed by the Hero, but times are changing.

As I gathered at the front of the stage and shook hands with headmaster, I walked to the microphone and cleared my throat.

All of them were surprisingly in view. The heroines, I meant.

Well, let's make a good first impression.

"Firstly, I'd like to apologise for being late. Also, I'll keep my speech short. In my eyes, you can all try your hardest but the result will remain the same. Even against this generations Hero, I would not falter and none of you will ever be able to dethrone me from the top spot. Good to meet you, everyone!" I shot a devilish smile and released my presence across the room.

All the students including the teachers froze momentarily and I took a few steps backwards.
