Chapter 5: The first job

*sigh~*

To kill was a sin...right?

But in here....it seems to be "kill or be killed"  it is the natural order of the world. The weak gets eaten and the strong gets to eat and grow stronger.

I didn't kill a good person(well i did yesterday, i mean those bandits) but a goblin instead. Green  colored, approximately 135 cm high monsters with nasty faces and clubs as weapons....yeah.....this was a goblin. I already met these guys before.

That annoying scream from the baldy green ugly creature resonated in the forest as i hid above the trees. Goblins that were spotted in my sights were  group before, they were too stupid so they split up in the end.

[This is easy] i was equipped with the smart pistol mk.5, and was already on my 23rd goblin. Collecting their right ear and their monster core was easy with the use of another steel knife, but it seems as soon as blood is present, their sense of smell is of no joke.

The one below me seems to have noticed my presence, so i shot its head ceasing its life in an instant.

[24.....i wonder, how many are there in this place?]

As far as I remembered, i read it on a book(light novel) before that goblins tend to make  their settlements on caves and forests, specifically places near to sources of water like rivers and lakes, also at waterfalls.

Proceeding smoothly, i made my way to the deeper part of the forest, the forest where i am at is called Mrenia Forest, a very dense and vegetated forest. It is an ideal place for monsters to grow and multiply due to the dense environment where they are apparently at.

Also, it is an ideal place for a marksman like me...*grin*

On the distance, seen from my map is a group of goblins. 5 red dots in total. It is a small group.

[Hmm....a goblin mage and spearmen.....the mage is a bit troublesome....let's deal with that first]

Aiming my sights at the goblin mage, a predictive path of travel appeared on my sight indicating a clear path towards the goblin mage's head. That was the smart pistols predictive aim.

*bang!*

The mage was KIA, i then killed the 4 spearmen escorts.

*bang!bang!bang!bang!*

[Phew~ that's 29]

Cutting their right ears, i then extracted their monster cores found individually on their chest cavity, just beside their hearts where magic always gather on the body of monsters.

[As far as concern....since i have 29 goblin ears....that should be 5x29...145 coppers....1 silver and 45 coppers.....hoo~ not bad for my first quest]

The quest i took offers 5 coppers per goblin ear, then if i collect their dark colored monster cores, i would get twice the reward for the ear. So basically it is 15 coppers per goblin.

So if a person kills one goblin, he/she can live easily for a day since an average person uses 10 coppers per day.

Just killing one would provide you with 15 coppers, since i killed 29, all of these goes for 435 coppers/ 4 silvers and 35 copper coins in total.

Normally, one can live for a week or two with that.

[Mah...my habit of grinding appeared again...]

I played many MMORPGs before, i would grind for money and EXP every time i play so that manner of mine appeared ones again. In short, it was addiction thru gaming. I was prepared for everything by reading a book i bought about monsters you can encounter everywhere, sort of like the pokedex....but the monsters  here are not cute, but are ugly.

Let's just return for the meantime. It's already mid noon, and the sun is high...the forest to the city was still far...let's just stay here for the moment.

Climbing a tall tree near me, there i sat on the big branch and rehydrate myself with the water from the canteen. The view here was fine too.

[Phew~]

Taking out PD-1, i made it scout a radius of 5 kilometers. There were no settlements found.....so those goblins must be a group from a faraway settlement then? So the first batch i have met were scouts, then the mage group was their main battle force....as expected of mobs such as goblins.....

Goblins don't have females on their race (an all male race) so they would kidnap women as a seed bed....just thinking of that made me feel shivers around my body. Women are raped and the men are killed....then the cycle continues again and again.Sort of like some good quality monster vs female knight doujin, hahahahahah.....I already left that genre a long time ago.

[This is sure one tough world i have arrived unto.....]  a very tough world indeed, now i somehow miss my life back at Earth.

Commanding the PD-1 to return, i then stored it and went back to the city on foot. As i walk back to the city, i opened my status to see my growth....

Yep... that's some good growth i got there.

Returning was easy since i had my map to guide me on the way, the only problem was ..... as i made my way back to Miruzo City and to the guild, and entered.....it was very crowded. As if there was a year end sale at a mall.

[Uhh.....wow.....there's a lot of people today] the frequency of people are quite high at this time of the day since an hour ago was lunch break, technically, the adventurers crowded the usual notice board.

The lobby was noisy as many people were crowding near the notice board, something was probably posted that was important there.

As i tried to peek at the notice board, someone then bumped to me, that person was a  huge 2 meter tall man....he is an oni. His skin was lightly brown.....but...

[Sorry, I didn't mean it](??) his voice was a bit low, one horn is protruding on his forehead and he has deep crimson eyes.....an oni indeed.

[That is fine, but hey, why is the guild crowded today?]

The oni then gave me a puzzled look...as if saying "you didn't know?"

[News had arrived that a new dungeon appeared today](??)

A new dungeon....huh?

The receptionist exclaimed, it was not the handsome man i met before...but a girl who looked like someone on her high school days. Needless to say, i ranked up....she says.

She spurted more surprising words but I didn't listen to it, i was in deep thought regarding that word....dungeon.

Leaving the guild building while storing my card and the reward, my mind was still filled with dungeon.

[Should i go there?] as far as games are concerned, you can earn more experience inside the dungeon and your level rises up faster. There's also treasures and various item drops that are useful in case of emergencies.

The problem is, when you die you won't return to the main menu but just die immediately.....

*sigh~*

Dungeoneering is a dangerous task after all. Moreover, after talking with the oni awhile ago, you can go there if you have the adventurers guild card, even without taking a quest. Which is plenty convenient for a person like me who is practical in life.

[Moreover it was the tower type dungeon instead of the underground type]

There are actually 3 types of dungeon:

•tower type

•underground type

•rogue type(any of the tower or underground type)/ changing dungeon

The 1st 2 are easy to understand, the last one called rogue type is a dungeon that changes environment depending on the floor.

Example is the 1st to 5th floor are desert biome, as soon as you enter the 6th floor, a different biome will greet you. That's what the male oni said to me.

[So dungeons huh.....i wanna go there and grind some items and levels...yep it is decided then]

Returning to the inn where i stayed, i then prepared for my trip to the said new dungeon tomorrow...
