Cross

Miraj was still holding me by my chin and he bent down to kiss my lips. It was a deeper kiss this time. I could taste the Whiskey on his tongue as it danced with mine. I moved closer towards him and he wrapped his arms around me. I wanted to get lost in these sensations but I had one more question I needed him to answer. I pulled back from the kiss but Miraj came forward as I bent back. He didn't want to stop. I pushed him away forcefully and he relented finally.

I asked while my lungs were still searching for oxygen, "I need to know. Who ended it?"

"What?"

"Your relationship. Who ended it? You or her?"

"Why does it matter now?" he said as he bent his head to give me another kiss. I briefly touched our lips and said, "Just answer, will you."

"She ended it."

Well fuck. She dumped Miraj. I don't know if she was a fool or she was too smart.

Even when he was young, everyone knew Miraj Moretti would be one of the most eligible bachelors of underworld or even Anmya if girls didn't mind the criminal background. People hadn't seen his face but everyone had heard stories of the green eyed killer.

"Why?"

"It was just a few months after our engagement and sometime before I entered the Zaveri family. She didn't want to be under the threat of death, constantly. She said she didn't wan to be afraid to live. And I hated that she felt that way but I was doing everything to protect her. I just needed her to wait but she, apparently, didn't want to seeing as she left me."

Letting him go was a stupid thing to do, especially when they were already engaged to be married. But she had also been the one to end things. Their relationship was already dying slowly and by being the dumper she had made sure she stayed behind in his heart and mind, sticking to his heartache like a bubblegum to a shoe.

"Bee, it doesn't matter who ended it. I signed a contract with you and now we are married. I won't leave this marriage and break my son's world for anything."

He spoke to me gingerly like he was speaking to a child. It was pissing me off. I nodded and got up from the couch. He was still holding onto my hand so I turned to him and said, "I get it. There's nothing to worry about. We are done talking for today. Let me go."

"Eliana, we can't be at odds right now."

There it was, the ginger voice, again.

I forced myself to remain calm and replied in a perfectly fine tone, "I know that and everything is fine on my side. As long as you're faithful, we'll be fine. I have to get up early tomorrow. I am going back to the office tomorrow."

He let my hand go and I left his room.

Sleep eluded me that night. I couldn't find a comfortable position to sleep in. Eventually I decided to just get up and catch-up on some work. I was tired by the time morning came around, I decided to go for a shower and get dressed for work.

We lived in the outskirts of Tamba city, Anmya's capital. The mansion grounds were too big to be inside the city. It took me an hour to get to my company building from my house. Cross Security that started out as a front to cover our illegal business had eventually evolved into a multi-million company by the time I took over. Under my rule, I had taken it further and made it one of the most prominent companies in our country. The fact that most people didn't know that I had been working on this company for almost a decade now helped pave my way through most of my enemies. Everyone thought I had inherited the company when I became the family head, which was four years ago. This company was like my adopted child that grew into a person I could be proud of.

My chauffeur dropped me off at the entrance and went to park the car. I looked up at the tall building I owned and remembered my father's dying face. The last thing he heard was the fact that I would be the one to carry his legacy and the horrified expression on his face never ceased to make me happy.
