"Looks like I missed the juicy stuff," Evan commented, coming in to stand between Kai and John on my right.
"You could say that," Kai remarked. Although he still seemed aggravated even well after Rebecca had left.
Evan didn't make any response to that. Instead, his eyes seemed to dance on Ava's body, and he grinned like she was a scrumptious piece of candy.
"Ava, I must say you look stunning with that motherly glow," he flattered her, and I didn't miss the fact that neither John or Kai seemed happy about it.
Ava giggled as her cheeks brightened with a majestic rosiness. "That's sweet of you to say."
"It's true," Evan smirked seductively.
"Ava love, why don't we get you something to drink?" getting jealous, John suggested as he placed his hand on her backside.
"Sure. I'll talk to you later, Victoria," she told me before she goes with her husband.
Evan moved over to stand in front of Kai and me, yet his face wasn't looking at us. Instead, he was still busy drooling over Ava before she got swallowed up in the crowds.
"Mmm, your cousin is extremely hot." Evan needled, and Kai darkened a death glare at him.
"Would you like me to tear your eyeballs out?" Kai cautioned as his eyes darkly narrowed at his cousin.
Evan laughed, unfazed. "It's worth it, in my opinion." He daringly egged it on further. Now Kai broke his seriousness, shaking his head. For a second, I actually thought he was going to harm Evan for talking about Ava like that.
"You're a moron." Kai disdained him in a laughing manner.
"Hey, it's not my fault your mother has hot nieces." Evan teased him, but Kai only rolled his eyes, attempting to ignore him. Now it made better sense. Evan was Kai's cousin from his father's side, not from his mother's side, which now told me Mr. Collin wasn't the Headmaster. Before this conversation, I always thought Kai's immediate cousins were only from his mother's Coven. Not until tonight, I never knew Mr. Collin had siblings since I haven't met them, but Evan now confirmed otherwise.
"I told you he was a bad influence." Kai winked, telling me. Perhaps Evan was worse than Rome when it came to flirting with the opposite sex.
Evan couldn't stop laughing. "Admit it, I'm fun, and you know it!"
"You're a disgrace," Kai confirmed, shaking his head, yet Evan wasn't bothered by it in the least.
"It's either you love me or hate me," Evan stated how it is.
Kai chuckled. "You're such a pain."
"Well, since we are talking about family, I presume this confirms that Mr. Collin isn't the Headmaster." My smart mouth revealed, cutting into their bickering.
For a mere second, they looked at one another before facing me with a smirk that seemed to mock me.
"Aren't you an intelligent girl?" Evan chuckled. "Maybe you aren't as naive as I thought."
I didn't know what he meant by that remark. Either way, I didn't take it too kindly. "And what is that supposed to mean?" I crossed my arms, attempting not to get snippy, but it didn't help whenever Kai seemed to agree with him.
"Nothing," Evan laughed, avoiding my question, but I wasn't about to let that go.
"No, really, enlighten me," I pressed to dig it out of him.
Evan chuckled. "You love a man over a vampire, so, of course, I find you a bit naive because of it."
"I can't help how my heart feels for Orlando." I muffled outwardly, knowing they heard me. Kai was rather hurt until he buried that pain beneath his heart. Of course, I felt like an awful person.
Ignoring my response, Evan asked me. "What makes you assume this theory of yours is correct?"
"Because you're cousins!" I hissed the obvious answer, unfolding my arms.
"How can you know for sure? Who's to say Evan wasn't adopted?" Kai manipulated me with a serious poker face.
"Because you look alike," I refute, taking his challenge head-on.
"What if it's a coincidence?" Evan implied, trying to throw me off, but honestly, I am done with these twists.
"What is the big deal about me knowing the truth!" I snapped at Kai, getting tired of this game.
There was a mere silence between us. Other than hearing the music and people or nonhumans chatting with each other. From what I knew, no one was listening in. If they were, Kai would give me a hint to drop the subject. Within the perfect duration, they both let out a chuckle, which shattered their intimidating poker faces.
"Ok, my love, because it's your birthday, I'll tell you my dad isn't the Headmaster," Kai revealed, finally after all this time.
"I knew it!" I gloated, looking around the party to find out if the Headmaster was anywhere nearby.
"He's not here," Kai laughed. "You haven't met him yet."
"Oh, so where is he?" I asked innocently as Kai and Evan intersected their eyes together before they stared at me with scary grins. Was I missing something here?
"Why are you staring at me like that?" I say, gulping nervously.
"Did you ever stop to wonder where Kai gets his noxious side from?" Evan pointed out to me, and now it had me thinking differently.
"That didn't cross my mind," I admitted with a raw gulp, and they both seemed amused by it. Perhaps it was best not to meet their Headmaster since I knew Kai is a very pernicious vampire without question. I can't imagine what the Collin Coven Headmaster would be like.
"Trust me, he's better off where he is," Evan stated bitterly. At least, that's how it appeared to me.
Meanwhile, Kai cracked up. "Evan, are you seriously going to talk disrespectfully about our grandfather?"
"No!" Evan rolled his eyes. There seems to be some unsolved resentment he has with his grandfather, I thought, studying his face.
"Grandfather?" I repeated once it dawned on me. "Then what generation are you?"
"Second." Kai gave me a simple answer once he was done laughing.
"Then that means our babies–"
"Will be the third," Kai responded over my indistinct voice to collect this information.
"Which makes your dad the first," I confirmed as it all came together.
Kai faintly nodded with a pleasant smile. I could tell he was happy to watch me be enthralled.
"There is still more to it that you're missing." Evan edged it on to know more that I wasn't aware of.
"What else is there?" I pressed to learn.
"Our Coven isn't any ordinary Coven," Evan stated, and I noticed Kai grimacing at him to shut up. Unfortunately, his inward warning made him quit. When it comes down to it, not even Evan has the guts to cross Kai's limits.
"That's all I will share with you for now," Kai ended this conversation with a gentle smile. Nevertheless, at least I got some answers about the Collin Coven.
