Chapter 6: The Couple

I froze from the sudden touch of a hand on my shoulder. I didn't know what is happening but I had to see who it was. After all, the only person I know at this new school is Lexi. I turned my head to the hand on my shoulder and it was a different girl.

This girl was cute, her long blond hair reached to the top of her waist and she had long pink nails. She was looking at me with a small smile as looked into my eyes.

"Come on new guy, follow me." It surprised me that she had a strong Midwest accent.

I reluctantly followed her, but she only led me to a empty classroom. She closed the door behind us and looked into my eyes. 'I have a bad feeling.'

"How do you know 'the Witch' of North High?" She said as she practically glared at me.

"You mean Lexi?" I felt my heart began to speed up as I got nervous.

"Yeah, now tell me! How do you know her?" She began to get angry at me for some reason.

"We just are just friends."

"Humpf!" She said as she pouted and looked away from me. 'What is wrong with this chick!'

She then looks at me for a few moments, like she was sizing me up. The longer we stood there, more and more people passed and glanced at us.

"Are they a couple?"

"Ooooo someone is in trouble!"

'This is killing me.' I have always hated negativity attention. It doesn't matter if it is light teasing or not, I always get nervous because of it.

When I rode my bike, its like the outside world disappeared and it was just me and my bike. When I was younger I did some stunt tricks with 'The Holy Grail' in a park, stuff like wheelies, or bar spins. Back then I could feel people starting but after I got more confident with my skills. They just disappeared.

"Your are special. She never talks to anyone, other than the teachers. When I first met her, I thought she didn't have a voice or something." The chick said.

The bell rang out all of a sudden, ending lunch period for the day. Suddenly the chick grabbed my are and led me back to the classroom and sat me down in my seat.

I sat in my seat and watched the girl walk to hers. Then the bell rang again signaling the start of class. And for another moment our teacher didn't show up.

A low murmur of voices rang out as the class began talking amongst themselves. The door flew open and a tall bald man wearing sunglasses walked in.

"Ok class..." He spoke in a loud and authoritative voice. "Right now you have P.E. But I didn't really plan anything for you. So let's just go outside and do whatever you want."

I looked at Lexi expecting her to get up and cheer. But she was already looking at me. Her eyes were sparkling and my gut feeling told me to run.

"Hey coach! Can me and Jack go get his bike?" Lexi yelled out as she snapped her head towards the coach.

Coach raised his eyebrows and just stared at me and Lexi.

"Yeah, just bring it around back and change into your gym wear." He said as he grabbed a whistle and shoved it into his pocket.

A soon as he said that my arm got yanked to the side. Lexi was trying to drank me off.

"Come on!" She grunts as she struggled to pull me.

I was in front of the school taking the lock off my bike. Lexi was standing over me examining the bike once more. Once the lock was off we began our walk to the back of the school with the rest of the class.

When we got to the back of the school, the some of the other students were playing basketball and others were playing soccer. A few were off to the sides talking to one another. When me and Lexi come around the corner, the coach glanced at us.

'Please don't come up to us.' I thought as I met his gaze. I can tell her was looking at us and at my bike. Some of the other students were also looking at us. I felt a light tug on the back of my shirt, I turned and saw that Lexi was blushing.

"Everyone is starring at us." She said softly behind a hand that was covering her face. She looked absolutely cute when she blushes.

I stopped walking and mounted my bike. I started doing freestyle stunts on in and then I began to feel more and more eyes look at me. The only pair of eyes that didn't bother that much was Lexi's.

I glanced at her every few minutes and her eyes remained the same. They sparkle with excitement and it absolutely melted my heart. After a few moments I began balancing on the bike and then I noticed the shin of a bald head next to me.

"Jack, you are quite good at that." The coach said with a smile. "Reminds me of when I used to ride."

"You used to ride!?" Lexi called out.

The coach chuckled and began examining my bike.

"You built this?"

"Yeah." I said with a little bit of embarrassment.

"You did a fine job son. I take it that you did this at her shop?"

"How did you know my family owns a bike shop?" Lexi had appeared next to me.

"Who doesn't in the bike community here in this city. Your family's shop is the best." The coach smiled.

Lexi squinted at the coach trying to remember something.

"You haven't seen me in there since you were little. The last time I was in there was about ten or so years." The coach thought out loud.

"So what did you ride?" I spoke up.

"A costume similar to this. I noticed your handle bars and they and the same model."

The three of us talked for several minutes about how Coach used to ride a fixed gear. He even told us that he had won some amateur races. 'This school is better than I thought.'
