By the time her treatment ended, Qing Yue didn't even possess the strength to keep her eyes open. Her entire body shook uncontrollably with violent tremors. But even then, the wide smile on her bloodless lips was hard to ignore.
"Li...Feng...I did...it." She stuttered and passed out.
At 6 am, Long Tian woke to the light of the bright sunlight. He turned on his side and slid his hand across the bed. When he failed to find his wife, his eyes sprung open and he sat up in a panic.
"Yue'er? Yue'er!"
Long Tian hurriedly leaped off the bed. His heart pounded in his chest as the last incident of her sprawled on the floor resurfaced in his mind.
He hastily ran to the other side of the bed and found the floor...empty.
"Yue'er...?"
Maybe she's in the washroom.
Still anxious and worried, Long Tian walked toward the washroom and hesitantly knocked on the door.
"Yue'er? Are you in there?" There was no reply. Long Tian called out a few more times and frowned. There was no reply or response to his incessant knocks.
Sunlight had only just descended, so where could she have gone aside from the restroom?
Unless...she had an accident in the bathroom?
This made his barely settled heart restless again.
"Yue'er, I'm coming in." Long Tian flung open the door and entered. With the same anxiety and nervousness as in the bedroom, his eyes roamed around the washroom in search of his wife's figure.
"Yue'er!"
Pale skinned with bloodless lips, Qing Yue laid unconscious in the bathtub. The faint scent of medicinal fragrance wafted through the air and entered Long Tian's nostrils right as his gaze fell on the pile of medicinal dregs by the tub.
He grabbed a bathrobe on the rack and anxiously moved to the bathtub. Wrapping an arm around her waist, he pulled her up and wrapped the robe around her body. Then he picked her up and carried her out of the washroom.
"Yue'er! Wake up!" Her pulse was still there and her heart undulated in a rhythmic pattern. But Long Tian wasn't able to relax until she woke up.
"What were those herbs? Was Yue'er trying to treat herself?" He frowned and sat beside her, worry and fear marring his features as he checked her temperature and her bandages.
The notion of a patient treating herself was inconceivable. Li Qing Yue had no medical knowledge and she had barely gotten released from the hospital.
If she felt too anxious to recover and used random plants, her health could severely be affected.
Long Tian got off the bed, grabbed a black button on his bedside table, and pressed on a tiny dot. Instantly, light flooded the room and a hologram popped up. "Dr. Ren, I found Yue'er laying unconscious in the restroom. I'm sending you a ride. Get to Long Mansion within 15 minutes."
He placed the button down, cleaned his hands with a warm handkerchief, and returned to his wife's side.
Qing Yue had been too exhausted by the treatment. Even when Dr. Ren appeared at the Long Mansion with Assistant Physician Fang Ying'er, she remained in deep slumber.
Led by a maid specifically instructed by Long Tian, Dr. Ren and Fang Ying'er appeared before Long Tian's bedroom door. Before the two could knock, the door opened from the inside.
"Dr. Ren, come in quickly. My wife has been unconscious for a while. I don't know how she's doing." Long Tian stepped aside to let Dr. Ren in.
When Fang Ying'er was about to pass him, he raised his hand. "I only need Dr. Ren. You can wait for him here." Without another word, he turned and the doors slid shut behind him.
"This...hmph! As if I want to enter!" Fang Ying'er felt embarrassed. She came with Dr. Ren to help him check on the patient's condition. But before she could see the patient, she was actually stopped at the door.
"Rich man and their arrogance." Turning with a huff, she walked to the sitting table and slumped into the chair.
Back inside the room, Long Tian led Dr. Ren to the bed and sat on the other side.
Dr. Ren didn't dare to waste any more time. He hurriedly set out his equipment and switched on his portable SmartCom. A white flare flashed out and swept over Qing Yue's body.
A few seconds later, Dr. Ren's WebCom patient portal filled with her vital statistics and a hologram of her physical condition.
A while later, the doctor jumped to his feet in disbelief. "How is this possible?"
Incredulous and shocked, his high-pitched screech resounded in the room.
Long Tian's heart sunk and he got off the bed. "Dr. Ren, what's wrong? How is Yue'er? I found her passed out in the bathtub with some medicinal dregs."
His heart filled with dread. If anything happened to Qing Yue, he wouldn't be able to explain himself to Uncle Li.
At this moment, Dr. Ren's face was flushed red with excitement. Completely forgetting his status, he grabbed Long Tian's arm and asked with great anxiety. "Dregs? Can you show me these dregs?"
But Long Tian disgustedly stared down at the hand on his arm. He hated strangers touching him.
"How is my wife? Is she in danger?" Frost saturated his voice.
Dr. Ren trembled, the ice-cold voice shattering his frenzy of excitement. He returned to his senses and awkwardly withdrew his hand.
But in the next instant, Dr. Ren's fervent vision returned to the girl on the bed. If there was no Long Tian around and she wasn't Young Mistress Qing Yue, then he would've kidnapped her for further study.
"Sh...she is fine. In fact, according to the physical scan report I just did, she should be able to start walking within a few months."
A few months.
The words were like a hammer, smashing on Long Tian's head with the fiercest blow. He staggered backward and slumped on the bed.
A few months.
"A few months later, my wife can walk...?"
"That's the astonishing part. According to the results of her scan, all the severed nerves have reconnected and..."
But how was that possible?
He'd seen her RepCom. According to her report, she'd never be able to walk again. Both her face and legs were ruined beyond repair.
So how...?
An image of the medicinal dregs and strange fragrances in the bathroom flashed in his mind.
Long Tian took a deep breath and controlled his emotions. His wife hadn't told him. The implication behind this made his heart ache. But knowing that she didn't want to share this with anyone, he composed himself.
"Dr. Ren, you said my wife can walk in a few months? Are you sure you're health-screen is correct? Just a week ago, I left the Long Medical Hospital with a complete health report telling me she'd never be able to walk again. As a doctor, you should first ascertain your report before giving the patient false hope."
Dr. Ren's face paled.
In his excitement, he'd almost forgotten the multiple reports they'd done on the girl before discharging her.
In the span of one week, how could a totally hopeless cripple possibly have such a ridiculous report?
"Young Master Long, you're right. My SmartCom must be malfunctioning. But the vital signs shouldn't be wrong. They report data from her pulse race, body temperature, and heartbeat. According to them, your wife is only asleep and should wake up soon." Dr. Ren rechecked her physical condition manually.
His tense muscles relaxed only after ascertaining her physical health.
"Young Master Long, Young Madam Long must've been in the tub for too long. That's probably why she passed out. As for the medicinal herbs she was taking...?" Even though he was convinced by Long Tian's reasoning and the previous health reports, Dr. Ren still felt an urge to see the herbs Young Madam Long was using.
Long Tian glanced sideways at the hesitant doctor and snorted.
"The herbs are tonics worth hundred thousands of yuans. You want to see it? It's not impossible. You'll just have to pay the equivalent price."
"Ah...haha...Young Master Long, since your wife is alright, I'll take my leave." Dr. Ren hastily gathered his equipment.
A dark light flashed in Long Tian's eyes. His vision fell on his foot and a sharp knife snapped from the front of his shoe. Then in a graceful arc, his foot swept across one of the SmartCom wires before leisurely crossing over his leg.
His movement was smooth and natural, the sharp knife snapping back in place the moment it cut the wire.
Dr. Ren was still caught up in the price of the tonics and hurriedly packed his tools. With a stiff smile and slight nod of his head, he turned towards the door.
"Hundred thousand yuans? Hmph! Why don't you rob a bank instead..." Disdainfully whispering under his breath, he hastened his steps and practically fled from the room.
