Saving Maia

I thought I heard her wrong but then I saw her eyes and that gave me the confirmation of what she said, "isn't that a bit extreme, he might've helped you out of just goodwill," I was hoping to fix what she was thinking because just because someone helped her doesn't mean she can marry him for that reason.

"I know what I'm thinking isn't right but I thought it over on multiply occasion and can't get that thought out of my head, he saved me from my lowest point in life and I didn't even get his name, I only know what he was called by people," she said to which she then said something which I thought to never hear in a while, "The Devil."

I then heard my phone ring and I pulled and saw it was Severn, "Yes."

"What's taking you so long man, hurry up!" He shouted through the phone to which I said, "I'm coming now, I was just talking with a classmate."

I then closed the phone and told her, "I have to go, hope we can talk some more," I told her and she smiled and said, "same here."

I then walked outside the school and saw Severn and Maia with a black car behind them, 'this isn't suspicious at all?' I walked over to them and then was questioned by Severn, "So what is the absent girl like?"

"I'll explain later," I told him and we entered the car, Severn driving which I didn't really feel safe but he had driven before, me in front and Maia at the back. As he drove we talked about who the new goddess of the first year would be and Maia said, "Angela, she is the most beautiful girl next to Freya and she was also her right hand."

"What about the girl that came into our class today," I asked, in my opinion she was more beautiful than Angela or Freya, "you mean Clarissa, she might've been the goddess at the start of the year but because of her absence, Freya took the title by force."

'Of course she did,' I thought in annoyance, she only took and never gave and now she is done and hopefully she will learn from her mistakes, "So what did you talk about with her?"

Severn wasn't going to let me off the hook so I had to tell him or he would be bugging me and annoying me until I tell him so might as well, "she wanted to thank me for helping her with some maths questions that all and I told her it's fine but she insisted."

"Okay, anything else I should know?" he was acting like a police officer and I was a criminal in an interrogation room, "Well she wants to marry the devil." He then pumped the brake and looked at me for a good long minute and Maia didn't understand what happened, "We'll talk later."

He said and pumped the gas and we raced to Maia's place, I looked at Severn and saw he was happy in his eyes but he had a poker face and I just sighed in annoyance.

We then arrived at her house and we walked at her door and she opened the door to which she said, "mom I'm home and I've brought my friends over." Her mother then came over and I saw her. Maia was literally her when she grew up to her age but I saw one problem: she was too skinny like she had been starving herself, her clothes were tattered and seemed decades old. "Hello there, please make yourselves welcome."

She put a smile on and welcomed us and we just nodded, the place seemed to be barely gagging on but had a home feel to it at least, we went and sat at the table but then I saw bruises on her arms, barely because she had a long sleeve shirt and she seemed sleep deprived.

"Miss shouldn't you sleep, it seems you're tired," I told her to which she smiled and said, "it's fine I need to give you some snacks to eat so please don't worry about me." I was going to argue that we were fine but then a knock on the door was heard. I was going to open the door but there was a loud knock or a bang like he was impatient, "open the door Rey!!"

I then opened the door and saw two people, on was a short man, he was starting to go bald and was wearing circular glasses but one factor you couldn't forget was how round he was, it seemed like I was looking at a exercise ball, he also wore a suit that barely fit him I even saw a bit of his belly, "who the hell are you, brat?"

I then looked over to the second guy and only thought of one thing, 'giant'. He was at least two heads taller than me and he had muscle which screamed steroids, he wore a tracksuit and looked like a gangster but one thing that made me remember him was his dyed blonde hair and tanned skin like he lived on the beach, "are you ignoring me you stupid brat?!"

The short man was going to slap me but I grabbed his arm before he could even make contact and squeezed his forearm and I was about to break it with my grip strength but then the giant was going to punch me so I put up my right elbow and blocked his punch. He then grabbed his hand in pain from my block, "who the fuck are you two?"

I asked with venom in my voice, I didn't care what was going to happen but from what I heard from Severn it seemed the short guy was the asshole landlord and the giant his lackey, "Sir I'm sorry about this I wasn't feeling well so he opened the door."

"Rey, Rey what have I told you, you need to take care of yourself because of Maia what would happen if you collapsed and she had to take care of you?" he freed his arm and walked inside and the lackey followed and I made sure not to let my guard down and I saw Severn had the same idea as me, "Rey when will you pay your rent, it's been four months now. I can't extend it anymore, Rey."

"I know Sir but please give me some time, I can give you some of the money but not the full thing," she said to which he sat down where I was sitting and sighed, "give me what you have and then I'll see how much you have to pay up."

She then took out her bag and took out $300 and gave it to him and counted it, "okay now you have to pay $3200 back Rey, I hope it's more next time." I was about to smash his face in but I looked at Severn and he took out his bag and pulled out the rest of the money she need to repay him, "this is the rest she has to pay right, take it and don't bother her again."

He was in shock when he got the money and counted it, he seemed pissed by getting the money and then he said something which I definitely knew that Severn might kill him then and there, "Rey, you got fired at your job, I got a job offer opened if you want to hear the details come to my place alone and I'll explain it in detail."

I then felt the killing intent that Severn had but I said something, "that's alright, my friend's uncle needs a secretary and Miss Red seems perfect for the job." Severn then noticed what I was doing and smiled, "yes my dad needs a new secretary, two new roles opened up and Miss red can fill one of them."

The short man seemed to be getting even more angry from what we were doing and even clenched his fist in anger, he then looked at me in the eyes and I just stared back with my eyes showing no emotion, no feeling to which he got up and said one thing, "I suggest you two leave now or you will have problems when you walk out of here at a later time."

I then saw the shock on Maia's mother's face and I just replied, "what are you going to do? Send a gang to cripple me?" I wanted to push him in a corner and confess what will happen and he just smiled and said, "might or might not."

He and the giant then left to which Severn punched the wall in anger, "calm down, you need to compose yourself for what's going to happen."

"I know! How the hell are you so calm about this, you know what he is after and you act calm like nothing is going to happen!" Severn screamed at me in frustration and I just said, "I know what you mean but first we have to take care of them and then we can deal with those bastards. I'll contact someone to come pick them up and when they leave we'll prepare for a massacre okay?"

"How long will that take," I then heard Maia ask, "I want to help in any way so can you please allow me to help?"

She seems desperate to help her mother and who would blame her, they lived there life on the line for months now, "I need you to help your mother pack your clothes as quick as you can and when your finished you'll go to where I live, then after we'll come and see what will happen after."

Simple plan, deal with the problem now and then help them fix their lives, they nodded and got straight into packing their belongings and I called Mr Weber, "Is everything okay Orion?"

"Yeah dad but I need you to help me with something," I said to which he paused for a second for some reason, "what happened?"

I then explained the situation and the plan of what's going to happen I just needed his help to find a place to stay and then me and Severn would try to help her find a job and anything else they might need, "I'll send Samuel, he'll arrive around 15 minutes max so it's fine, also I'll find some residence for them, might as well get a head start on the plan."

"Thank you dad." I said to which he said, "No problem son."

"So you finally called someone 'dad," Severn said to which I didn't understand what he meant but then I remembered what I said, "it happened out of instinct so leave it."

"Whatever you say Orion," he said and we went to help them pack there belonging and it took is around 10 minutes to finish, they didn't have much only some clothes and necessary stuff to live with, me and Severn picked up the bags and went outside where a car was parked and Mr Neil came out to which he took the bags and put them in the back, "I got the report from the master so it will be fine for me to explain it to Madam young master."

I nodded and Maia and her mother got in the car and they drove off while I watch the car leave and then we went back in and waited for the gang to come so we can deal with them but I knew Severn had something he wanted to talk about which I might as well explain, "so why would she want to marry 'the devil'?"

"She said he saved her life once and she wants to pay him back," I said to which he added, "that's still a bit of a problem in my opinion because he isn't the type to get married, you should know him best."

He was right about that I knew him the best out of anyone, even himself but I still don't remember them every meeting so I needed to find out how they met, "too be honest what happened to 'the devil'?"

"Why do you want to know?" I asked, this isn't a regular question of his more like he wanted to meet him, "just want to know beside if we are being serious 'the devil' is in front of me right now."

"... Don't call me that!" My voice was full of venom and killing intent, I never wanted to be called that, it made me remember what I did and what I regretted, "I haven't let loose in a long time let's say that and leave it at that."
