Chapter 26: Pull of the Tides

Things are never as easy as I hope they’ll be.
The Marea territory is a little further than Bri and I originally thought, and it’s funny seeing what people are capable of in times of dire need. I learned Bri can hotwire a car, for one. I also learned that I’m an awful nurse, my bedside manner is atrocious in comparison to Bri’s. But I think the most important thing I learned is not everything is as it seems because as soon as the car gets into Marea territory, it stops working, wolves flanking every side of the vehicle like a practiced routine.
This is what a pack actually looks like, and it’s slightly intimidating.
One of the wolves comes to the driver's side where I’m seated with the window rolled down and shifts into human skin, his tan fur giving way to warm, freckled skin.
“State your business, señoras.”
