Chapter 19: Age is Just a Number

-LEENA-

“We can’t tell Jules any of this,” Alec says as he looks at his burned hand with a far-away expression. “We can’t.”

As much as I agree, I also know it’s not that simple.

“We have to tell him something, Alec. At least that his life and shop aren’t in danger.” I pose, trying to reason through this, falling back onto old habits based on logic and fact.

“And what exactly could we tell him, Leena?” Alec snaps, rounding on me in a motion so quick that my eyes barely catch it until he’s backing me up against the wall right next to the symbol. I can feel the thrum of magic come off of it as Alec brackets my shoulders, eyes flaring red as he fights for control.

“That the reason there’s a damn vendetta symbol painted on his coffee shop in blood is my fault?” Alec words are garbled past fangs, vowels more rounded and constants harsh and guttural. I’ve never seen him this close to the wolf, even fully shifted.
