The Ways: Path of the Enigma

I tread into the deepest, darkest secrets of the universe. Amidst the storm I listen to the voice of reason. My path is not held down by anything else but myself. For I am my own body, mind and soul. My will shall penetrate all of doubts and fears I face. All life shall know my own name. ----------------------------&&&&---------------------------- Currently on heavy editing. This is my first book and I am really eager to make my story clean, not perfect but acceptable. So please if you have any inputs, insights or advices you are free to do so. Please forgive my grammar too as english is my third language. My vocabulary is limited and I consider writing this as a learning experience. I do research on my words a lot and will use new ones if necessary. Thank you and have a good time reading. Approximately 1500-1800 words per chapter. Story is slow-paced.(maybe) If you guys want to have a discord chat maybe you could strike me up and say it to my face. (I'm lonely so plz...) Also if you aren't lazy to read the Prologue here it is: In the beginning, loud screams and wails echoed throughout the void, supernatural powers spread out the lands and in turn, evolved the surrounding creatures into monstrosities that devoured and prey on the weak. Humans and other intellectual species hid in the dark, fearing what they may become if they stand face to face with the horrors across the lands. Though the time that passed through the lands made the beings impatient and tried to devise a way to kill the horrors. They made tools, crafted plans and waited. They had succeeded and from the corpse of the first horror they brought down brought blessings to the people making them have the morale and ingredients to make artifacts which was made to kill the monsters. They had brought down many monsters with their breakthrough and made a place for themselves in the surface. Humans were the first civilization to fight the horrors whilst the elves cower in the protection of the tree's leaves and the Dwarves hid deep into the crevices. Though scared they also found a way to fight the monstrosities in their own traditional way. Until one day the age of the supernatural came. Powers came to be and their users brought changed to the lands, exiling the horrors into the Forsaken Lands as they claimed the surfaces for their own. The First Emperor of Humanity brought to light the spark of humans, whilst the First Elven King revitalized the lands. The First Dwarven Enchanter crafted legendary artifacts. Finally bringing the Brilliance and Pale Era. These are the Recorded Legends in Grandia Lands, some legends were left untold as the First Rulers suddenly vanished. However people had already forgotten about it only to be told as storytimes for children but there is a prophecy that they would return, and that is the day the whole lands will end.

Chapter 2: Aspiration.

"This is more complicated than I thought. First of all, an unknown power called supernatural powers had existed in the beginning. Making a lot of things evolve in a magical way. Like how there are giants, dragons and other mythical creatures..."

"There are also different races like elves, dwarves and etc. Artifacts also exist, Heroes and other thingamajig. I didn't read it in detail as it wasn't all that important only skim reading the important ones before finally moving on."

"Yet still there is one thing that I'm worried about, is there also other entities outside this realm? like spirits? or any supernatural creatures that defy logic? There is a possibility of it existing, but based on how my sister performed a systematic way of healing, maybe monsters here also follow that rule or something else entirely. I wanted to know how my sister had done her magic but I only managed to listen and feel what she'd done but without truly knowing it, I felt like a child trying his luck on a claw machine. Hmm..."

"As I read on, I also learned there are other supernatural forces at play."

"Magic is a systematic and complex power wielded by the mind."

"Faith which is base on the belief or willpower."

"Life Force which is cultivated by the body and lastly..."

"Ether which is trained using our soul."

"All of these power serves as a militaristic power in kingdoms spread upon the lands, though every supernatural training may vary but still Magic, Faith, Life Force and Ether is the baseline for all users that intend to acquire a supernatural path."

"Though supernatural powers exist in this world, there is still a need to form a community and a proper teaching system, from what I could read the superpowers cannot be acquired through simple means, because if people tried to harness supernatural force with their fragile control; like how incorrectly calibrating magic could cause a huge mana explosion, Faith has a possibility of consuming the body and make it fade away bit to bit if they exhaust their will too much, Life force could deform the body mutating it into something undesirable and debilitating, and Ether the rare superpower could make the soul drift away into space if done wrongly. Things like this are reported to happen everyday, making it a common downfall of supernatural users.

"Some might say that wielding supernatural power is a blessing but it could also be a curse to the people around them. Power that is uncontrolled is dangerous and absolute power will certainly corrupt anyone if given time and freedom, that's why a lot of rebellions happened in history due to that reason." I finished taking notes, putting my pen down and tidying up the books.

"Young master, if I must." Finea who was stuck to my side insisted in helping me so I didn't stop her.

"Finea, I'll be going outside for a moment, I'd just like to breath some fresh air, kinda getting giddy staying here all day."

"Young master, Lady Mirelia said for you to rest, we wouldn't want you to get another headache just because you overexerted yourself again..." Finea explained to me my circumstances however what she doesn't know is that I'm perfectly fine. The previous incident was just my memories melding together with my newfound body.

"It's alright Finea, I am in perfect condition now." Finea gave me a silent look.

"Why do you look so surprise?" I asked.

"Well, Young Master to tell you the truth you've changed." I've changed? Of course I did who wouldn't notice a certain intelligence twinkling in my eyes. But I supposed I need an explanation for this right?

"Finea, to tell you the truth. I've had an ephiphany!" May the heavens bless me and let my random bullshit be successful.

"Eh-pi-pa-niê...what?" Finea stuttered at the unfamiliar words I used. I almost laugh at her stuttering but I had to keep up appearances.

"It's just that I've had a dream of holding the stars! it was wonderful and now I like to reach them!" I intently stared at the ceiling, raising my hand quickly before bringing it into a close.

"Young Master, are you fine? Did that headache do something to you?" Finea looked at me like I was possessed but I explained further.

"I'm fine really, there is just a goal in my mind now, something that I want to do!" I said with stars shining in my eyes.

"Is that so..."

"Theodora come here please help me...I don't know what's wrong with Young master..." Finea whispered to Theodora.

"Shush!" Theodora silenced her and turned to me. "Young master what is it that you want?"

"I want to go outside, so I could breath some fresh air. I hate being cooped inside..."

"Then I shall accompany you."

"Please." Theodora sneakily scowled at Finea while bowing down, causing Finea to flinch back.

--------------------------------------------------------

Walking outside was quite a refreshing experience, rocks were patterned around to make a stairway, there was also a small pond by the side of it whilst flowers and plants happily bounced back and forth as if they were alive.

The wind at the mean time gave me a feeling of pressure. If I reached out my hand to feel it, it becomes light and breezy giving me a feeling that it was kinda avoiding me.

Looking behind I saw the mansion of my father's barony coming into my view. It was built on higher ground offering a nice view of the whole barony if viewed at the top.

At the horizon, I saw walls that reach up to 10 meters, which was too high for a 6 year old like me to reach, I wonder why they made it that high? Now that I thought about it the skull inside of the mansion floated on my mind, Yeap that's the reason.

I took a stopped in front of a big rock, Theodora helped me climbed on top of it just to make me see a better view of the clouds however I spotted an unusual phenomenon at the sky. It was still daytime and the sun was shining bright but on the other side there was a looming darkness, stars scattered around and a pale moon hovering towards it.

I glanced at Theodora and she glanced back at me.

"Theodora, why is the sky split?" Theodora cleared her throat while pausing for a bit before finally speaking.

"From what I've read from books of legends, It is because the God of the Day and God of the night waged war against each other. They fought for sovereignty over the skies however they soon thought that it was foolish, and so they agreed on a pact that they should take turns in ruling the skies which brought forth the day and the night a cycle that we now live in."

"That's interesting, but why is it that they seem a little out of their area?"

"Well, as you see the reason for the sky is like that is because the Gods couldn't cover the whole land with their power, so somewhere around the lands there is a place where the Gods couldn't cover at all and that is the Forsaken Lands where no light pierces through because of the intense clouds surrounding the area. It is the breeding place of mythical creatures."

"Oh..."

"Is there anything you would like to ask Young Master?" Theodora smiled as she lowered her height to my level before staring at me.

I was too caught up in my thoughts to answer her immediately, so I just stared at her warm eyes before glancing at the sky again.

"I have many questions, I want to learn more..." Theodora smiled, she seemed ecstatic the more I inquired.

"I had enough walking, can we talk inside the mansion?"

"I'll be just behind you Young Master." I traced our steps back to the mansion, Theodora was kindly looking at my small steps like how a parent would worry about her child. I was grateful for it even though it was unnecessary. After a few minutes, we returned to the mansion, I took a seat at the nearest table with another seat available as I beckoned Theodora to sit with me.

I had a lot of questions to ask her, it was all about the nobles, the creatures and anything important that I should know of.

Theodora took my questioning like how she treats curious kids, answering with an earnest desire to each of my questions and before I knew it, the windows didn't reflect the piercing light and was replaced with a pale and gentle moonlight.

We both retreated back to our room after. Theodora bade me a good night sleep and I amused her with a similar gesture.

Inside my room I immediately collapsed to my bed. Thoughts of negativity invaded my mind, eating away the positive mind that I had before, tears fell down, a snot on my nose coldly retreated back and forth as I held my chest tightly due to how much my throat and lungs hurt from the suppressed cries I made.

"Am I going to be fine here? Would they notice that something had gone amiss to my personality? and would they try to interrogate me for it? This is a dangerous world do I need to kill to survive here? but I don't want to kill anyone, I just want to be...happy" Dark and painful realizations kept my mind awake, burdening the body and mind of the child I unwillingly stole a whole life from.

I tightened my jaws and held the pillows closely to my head, whilst whispering to my head the lies I fabricated just to ease my mind to sleep.

Have some idea about my story? Comment it and let me know.
