"Congrats Rick!"
"That's awesome!"
"Congrats Lori!"
Everyone was congratulating Rick and Lori after they announced that Lori was pregnant.
It had been a few weeks since he had decided to be the temporary leader of the group, and everyone was starting to get used to it, but he still got some people who didn't agree with his methods.
Mostly Dale who was always putting false ideas into other people's minds.
Luckily it seemed the group he found himself in wasn't full of sheep, he could see a monster inside each of them even if they were unaware of it themselves.
It wasn't that he disagreed with Dale's moral compass, but Dale was naive. He wasn't willing to bend his moral compass when it was necessary and that was a very dangerous thing to have in a world where morals hardly mattered.
He knew his morals. He was willing to become the devil himself when it was necessary and when it wasn't he didn't mind becoming a kind little angel.
The problem was that you had to be able to control yourself. When you become the devil it's hard to change back to the angel. He had plenty of experience from his last life in changing between the two. He also knew when it was best to let others be the angel and he the devil.
And that was how he was going to use Dale for now. Dale had strong morals, but it didn't mean he was entirely brain-dead.
Just like he was letting Dale play the angel, Dale would let him play the devil while also not letting the group sink too far into the devil's ways.
Of course, angels wouldn't survive very long in this world but that wasn't up to him. Even with him leading the group if they couldn't adapt then eventually, they would die.
"Congrats Rick, I'm proud of you brother." I squeezed Rick's shoulder and he smirked.
"Thanks, brother," Rick said with a nervous chuckle.
"Stop being so nervous man we got you, isn't that right guys." I looked at everyone else who were laughing at Rick's nervous look.
"Of course, don't worry ill teach the little kid how to kick some ass," Daryl said while making an arrow.
"Haha!" Everyone laughed.
I walked over to Carl who was now healed up and had a goofy smile on his face.
"You seem excited little man." I smiled while messing his hair up.
"I am Uncle Shane! I always wanted a little brother or sister!" Carl smiled.
"Being a big brother is a lot of responsibility. Are you sure you can handle it?"
"I will protect them with my life!" Carl said with a serious look.
"That's good." I nodded and rubbed Carls head before I called with a meeting with the main decision makers of the group.
This included Rick, Glenn, T-Dog, Daryl, and of course me.
Of course, we just talked about the main details and big decisions but eventually, we would let everyone know and see what they think.
Of course, if it came down to it, he would make the decision alone, but he still needed to hear the other's thoughts and ideas. It wasn't good to not use the smart people around you to your advantage.
Right now, they were finalizing the plan to move into a nearby prison that wasn't too far away.
Shane and Rick had been cops before the fall and they knew about tons of prisons, plus the prison they were planning on going to was the closest one.
They were gonna send a scout party first to make sure the prison was still standing before they fully committed to it.
They made this decision because of how hard defending the farm was and sadly they had lost both Patricia and Otis in an accident where a few walkers had sneaked onto the property.
It seemed like no matter how many times they patched the fence up or put-up boards the walkers still found a way in.
It was also wide open meaning they could easily be surrounded by a walker hoard.
And then of course other people could shoot them like fish in a barrel because all they had for protection was one old house that was barely standing as it was.
Basically, as much as they loved the farm and as much as Hershel had denied leaving, they all knew the farm was a death sentence in the end.
"So whos gonna be part of the scout party?" Rick asked while we all looked at the map that was sitting on the truck bed.
I thought for a moment before deciding.
"It will be me, T-dog, Andrea and Daryl who will go to the prison."
"What? What about me?" Glenn asked while the others looked confused as well.
Glenn was one of our best scouts and it would have made more sense to have him on the mission.
"Im gonna need you here with Rick to plan a few supply runs into town. I want as many supplies as you can fit in all of our vehicles in case, we do move into the prison we won't know any of the surrounding stores as well as we do about the ones here.
For all we know the stores in town could be surrounded by walkers or completely cleaned of supplies. Unlikely but still we don't want to have to rush into supply runs right after taking the prison. This will give us a small safety net so we can scout out the stores that are safer nearby."
"Okay but why Andrea?" Daryl asked confused and the others were also curious.
"For experience. Everyone needs experience in taking on task and dealing with walkers. Glenn, Maggie, Carol, Amy, and Andrea have experience in supply runs but they will need to step outside their comfort zones."
"Rick make sure everyone has gun training while were gone and if you can catch a few walkers to use as knife practice that will be good. Eventually, everyone will have to help clear the prison so we don't want them to panic during their first time killing a walker."
"We have a few walkers piled up on the fences so we can use those as target practice," Rick said.
I frowned while thinking.
He hadn't had to deal with walkers in his last life but he still understood the basics of walkers. They were attracted by smell but mostly by sound.
"Hold off on the gun practice actually, just stick with knives for now."
"What's up?" Rick asked with his usual scowl.
"Walkers are drawn to noise, so we don't want to attract a shit ton of walkers while we're gone just in case something happens."
"Your right." Rick nodded.
"When do we leave?" T-Dog asked.
"Right now. I'll go get Andrea." I said before we all split up to start on our task.
