Chapter 7 - Getting Dressed

Truth be told, Seraphina wasn't very smart, and she didn't know a lot. Due to how she was born, she was always limited in what she was able to do and learn— as such, unlike others her age, she wasn't able to partake in schooling or private lessons.

Normally, children of noble families would be privately taught from a very young age in order to grow up and lead the Kingdom they served, and her siblings were no different.

Once they came of age, they would attend an Academy, School, Training, or something of the sort in order to further their education. This was common practice in order to not only prepare them for the future but also allow them to network with other nobles.

Seraphina, on the other hand, never had that chance.

Not only was she unable to attend school even though she was at the age of 17 already, but she was never even privately taught at home due to her health.

Seraphina had always been asleep most of the time— the only times she wasn't asleep was when she was eating, being visited by her family, or other private matters; she never had the energy to stay awake for schooling.

Her family also didn't want her to interact with others outside of the family very much because they didn't want rumors of her to spread. Aside from servants, Seraphina had actually never interacted with anyone from outside of her family.

She had no friends, and she wasn't allowed to meet anyone that visited the estate.

Maybe it was due to their worry for her well-being, or maybe they were just unwilling to show the weak Seraphina to others; she did not know.

As such, Seraphina's knowledge of this world was limited to the most common of knowledge that most would have in this world. Even then, that was limited to the whispers she heard from those around her.

Truth be told— Seraphina's knowledge of this world was probably worse than that of a commoner.

Her knowledge of the other world was fine. The memories she held from the other world, having finished high school, spent time on the internet, and so on, would aid her.

It mixed with her other memories to make her more knowledgeable than she was in the past, but she needed to learn more.

She wasn't in that world anymore. She needed to adapt to this one, and she needed to know not only their common knowledge but also enough information to strive.

That was why the library was the first place she wanted to visit upon gaining the ability to do so.

The house she stayed in had a library of its own— it wasn't as grand as the library in the main house, but to keep up their appearance, they would never let a house on their estate be lacking.

Even if it was only used for one person.

"I would appreciate your assistance in getting dressed and accompanying me to the library."

The girl spoke in a confident tone as she slowly moved to the edge of the bed with the little strength she had; she could feel her body aching from that slight movement and her mind telling her to just give up and sleep— but she refused.

Her willpower to learn, become stronger, and survive overpowered the little voice inside her mind that told her to give up and power through the pain her body felt.

Her maid was surprised by the sudden confidence in her tone, and her actions were something she wouldn't expect— having never done it before.

But she quickly regained her compose as she was trained to do and got to work.

She picked out an outfit for her lady that would not be too uncomfortable but also fitting of a noble— a long white dress that was made out of a soft silk-like material that gave a comforting embrace to those who wore it.

Once she prepared the dress, she helped the girl slowly get into it, aiding with her minor make-up and such.

It was a slow and painful process. Seraphina had to take a few breaks during the process of getting dressed due to how simply untrained and unkept her body had become from not using it properly for years.

Not only did her illness eat away at her body, but also not being able to move often due to her illness further degraded the well-being of her body until it wasn't even comparable to that of a child's.

Her muscles were nothing at this point, and her bones had grown so weak from their lack of proper nutrition and care that they might even snap if she was pushed too hard.

Overstraining it now could lead to issues along the line, which was why she planned to take things slowly and improve them with time and effort.

Aura Training would be a faster method, but her family only had one training method, and she had no means to get her hands on it. Regardless of whether she got her hands on it, she would be unable to use it.

Getting another family's method was out of the picture due to the simple fact that each family treated their method like a national treasure— which it honestly was.

However, she wasn't disheartened— her body was not the key problem right now; her mind was. And that was something she could train without having to worry.

"Thank you, Cella. Now, please help me over to the library."

Once the girl was fully dressed, she thanked the maid for her assistance. She knew the maid was simply doing her job, and if she had the option, she probably wouldn't care to be helping her, but she had to put on a front for the time being.

If she drastically changed too much, personality-wise especially, then it may cause her family to grow suspicious of something. She didn't want that to happen, not until she had a solid foundation, at the very least.

"As you wish, Miss."

The maid spoke in response as she held the girl's hand and helped her move to the location of the library, which was thankfully on the same floor and only a few rooms away.

Nevertheless, the process was slow and painful for the girl. Moving along the hallways, she could see just how empty they were. One would not assume she was a noble if they just looked at the maids working in her place.

The hallways were mostly empty; at most, she counted less than six maids working up and about as she passed, which was very low for a noble of her position, but she could understand the reason why.

One thing she noted was that each of them stopped what they were doing and turned their attention to her when they noticed her walking— it wasn't an everyday occurrence one saw, after all.

She could notice the whispering and talks going on amongst them, and soon enough, rumors would spread not only throughout her personal mansion but to the other mansions within the estate.

She had less than a few days to learn uninterrupted by her family, and she planned to make the most out of it.
