Chapter 3 - Weakness

To make matters worse, the only way for the girl or anyone to get rid of the negative effects the eyes had on the body and prevent dying at a young age would be to awaken the latent power of the eyes.

This means that in order for her to not die, she would need to awaken the unique ability that her eyes possess.

However, that was much easier thought than done, as there was a reason only 3 known possessors of the eyes had ever been recorded within history and can be remembered now.

Awakening the eyes was difficult; no, difficult would be an understatement.

There was no known way to awaken the eyes or trigger an awakening of the eyes. Even some special abilities awakened under the threat of death and saved the life of their user, yet the eyes were not like that; they wouldn't care if the person died.

The conditions needed to awaken the eyes were never found or listed, and any research into awakening the eyes done by her family has proven to be pointless.

Due to this, even as someone who was loved by her parents and cared for, she had always been treated differently from her siblings; after all, her death was predetermined at this point.

As such, she had always been alone whenever she had the chance, resting in her room due to her weak body; she never had the chance to go out and make friends, or learn any form of martial arts or aura training. She didn't even encounter her siblings often, as she lived in a separate house on the estate to avoid being disturbed often.

That was why the previous Sera was very lonely and tired of her life. She was waiting for death, and it seemed it had reached her.

Or maybe it was a chance, a miracle that occurred that allowed both Serah and Sera to become one being, to be born anew as neither one but both.

However, the issue still remained, unless she found a way to awaken her eyes, she would die within the next 3-4 years even if she wasn't killed, and that wasn't something she wanted as she had a new chance at life.

"But aren't they already different from before?"

Sera muttered to herself as she peered up and stared into the mirror before her. Within it, she looked at her eyes as they rippled with a faint glow of violet that glimmered within the dark room slightly.

She felt the pulsing pull form within her very soul as she stared for too long, causing her to drift her eyes away so as to not be sucked into whatever was pulling her.

"It wasn't like this before."

From what Sera could remember, her eyes had never been this strong or bright before. Sure, they had a slight glow to them, but it was only enough to make people realize they weren't normal; it wasn't enough to glow even within the dark room so brightly.

Not to mention the pull she felt when staring into her eyes; this wasn't something that had happened before, not even once. Before, her eyes could be said to be enchanting and captivating, having caught the attention of many who look into them, feeling a natural attraction, or rather longing, to look at them.

But none of them ever once felt as if their souls or mind were being sucked into her eyes, especially not herself. If that had been the case, then she would not be able to look in the mirror.

"Could it be something about the fusion that triggered the eyes to awaken? Or even partially awakened?"

Sera had zero information to work with when it came to the eyes, or even when it came to the situation she was in now as a reincarnated person; as such, she wasn't sure if the eyes had awakened or simply changed slightly.

Even so, this was better than nothing, and she could work with it.

She closed her eyes and tried to focus her mind on her eyes, trying to feel if any energy was flowing within them. It was a common technique used by many systems of powers within the world, and she had seen it done many times by her family.

She had never used it herself due to the fact that she never had the energy to do so, but now she might be different.

Unfortunately to her unpleasant revelation, she still could not feel any form of energy flowing within or around her eyes, meaning it was unlikely mana, aura, or even energy was gathering within them.

"Dammit."

She said in a frustrated mutter as she clenched her fist tightly. She had hoped that this time around, she would finally be able to not be her weak and pathetic self anymore, not have to suffer a boring or short life.

However, it seemed that wasn't the case yet.

Yet.

She had no intentions of giving up just yet; something was clearly different in her eyes, but she wasn't sure what it was. There had to have been a change to her; whether it was shown now or later she would work towards finding out what it was.

For now however, she would return to bed.

"It's still night. This body needs as much rest as it can get right now."

Standing up from the ground, she peeked outside her room's window to see the moon still shining bright above the sky, or rather, moons. This world had 3 moons, two of which were small while one was much bigger; together, they provided the world with moonlight at night.

She had woken up in the middle of the night due to the sudden change she had undergone, but her body was still much too weak to stay awake this late or skip out on sleep, so she decided to return to bed and wait till morning cleared before she tested things further.

So, with that in mind, she slowly returned to the bed with her weak body, and slipping under the large, soft covers of the bed, she fell asleep in the warm embrace.

Yet, as she slept that night, she had an odd dream.
