The moment that the needles pierced Carina's skin and even her eyes, the blood soaked her body, even the bed. She was also crying with blood as the red liquid flowed from her cheeks to the mattress; the bed had now become crimson.
Carina's face had now become pale, and that became almost a pile of bones in an instant. She lay dead in her own blood, but no wounds could be seen on her skin despite the pool of blood.
While looking at the woman, Zenesha only thought it was a bit of a pity. Because of her anger earlier, she couldn't control her emotions and strength, resulting in her directly killing Carina.
"A pity, I still want to play with her." Even though she said that there wasn't the slightest hint of regret in her voice. She stared at the fresh corpse before her, devoid of any emotion in her angelic face.
A few seconds passed before she turned around and planned to go back to her room. Gradually, as she was walking in the hallways, a kind of anticipation welled up inside her that even overwhelmed the urgency that came from the event that would seal her fate from then on.
"I guess, the game is on... huh?" she laughed and continued on her way. That night, even though she killed someone, Zenesha slept peacefully for the first time in a while.
The next morning, Zenesha, who could finally move on her own in this body, still didn't dare to be overly free in her actions. She didn't want to be careless, so as much as possible, when in front of a lot of people, she still had to maintain her character.
There was something unusual about this morning: the attendants were all distracted, and fear was written on their faces. Zenesha already had a clue; of course, she knew that what she did would cause a great commotion the next day. Which was the reason she did it in the first place.
With grace and a gentle demeanor, as being Zenesha for the past three months, she has already memorized and processed her character and how she acted in the scene.
"What's going on?" she turned to Erilia and asked. The wolf beastkin was the one attending to her this time. Which was usually the job of either Carina or Anika.
Erilia was startled by her question, but she recovered a few seconds later. With some hesitation in her voice, she answered Zenesha's question.
"Your Majesty, Carina, has been found dead this morning." She bowed her head, having some complex emotions.
Zenesha's eyes flickered, yet her expression remained. She only stared at Erilia, and yet there was something in her gaze that made the wolf beastkin clearly intimidated and didn't dare meet her eyes.
While the Wolf Queen had always had this kind of air as a monarch and even more so as the one who held authority among the wolves, there was something even more different this time. Zenesha had become even more real, not the puppet Zenesha who neither cares for nor can utilize the elements in her surroundings.
Unlike Zenesha, the moonlight elements were still surrounding her, making her even more divine, especially among the ordinary wolves.
Erilia continued, "They said... Carina's cause of death is due to element backlash." She paused; there was some fear in her eyes but even more, anger as she exclaimed through gritted teeth, "Your Majesty, Carina is a human sorcerer!"
Zenesha narrowed her eyes discreetly, amusement filling her icy blue eyes. The corner of her mouth arched up, and a trace of a smile that Erilia couldn't see because she was bowing her head, played on her lips.
It seemed like what she did was really going in the direction she wanted it to. This development was even better than she thought. A human sorcerer in the central palace, and what was worse? She was also one of the Wolf Queen's attendants! Just from this alone, Zenesha already had a guess of what would happen next.
And so Erilia continued, confirming the conjectures in her mind. "The people from the temple have already arrived, Your Majesty. Their Excellencies, the alpha generals, also began convening again about this matter and will take action immediately," she reported.
Upon hearing this, Zenesha leaned back in her seat, and a wicked smile gradually settled on her lips. If only it were too much out of character for her, she would already have evilly laughed.
This was too good! She applauded in her mind. 'It's just so fucking good development, I must say twice.'
Zenesha wanted to create chaos as much as possible during this period, and what was even better than the temple being involved? When she set Carina as a target, she didn't have any plans in mind or even anticipate that something good like this would result from what she did.
She only wanted to start with her, that was all.
But now, it seemed she truly got lucky there! The Wolf Empire's relationship with human empires was neither good nor bad but still stable, and trade continued with each other. Even some packs would create alliances among the humans.
However, the wolves, especially the extremists that came from the temple or were devoted believers of the Moon Goddess, hated human sorcerers the most. They called them heretics and condemned them for constantly trying to covet the power of divinity and, most of all, the power of the Wolf Queen.
For the temple, the Wolf Queen was their symbol, their monarch, and even more so, their saint. Even with the laws of this world mostly tempered, Zenesha was confident that those beings couldn't change this fact. Otherwise, it would cause too much disruption to the plot.
Now, a human sorcerer just happened to be discovered in the palace, and she was a personal attendant of Zenesha, the Wolf Queen, no less. She couldn't even imagine just how distraught the temple was this time.
She laughed at this, realizing even the alpha generals could never turn a blind eye when the Wolf Queen's safety was at stake. Zenesha smiled, brushing her hair.
It seemed her messing with simple details of the plot was working. In this incident, the temple and capital were about to be put on alert and cause unrest. It was also possible that there would be a cleansing and purge in the whole Moon City.
Zenesha stared at her reflection. Her features were still gentle and graceful, but there was a wicked light that shone in her eyes.
It was only the start; the game was just about to begin. This round one was about... She narrowed her eyes and thought of Ravino as her thought continued... about human sorcerers.
